Supplier Showcase: Florrie Mitton Couture

Now, I see a lot of wedding accessories, but these couture garters by Florrie Mitton Couture are just something else. If I had know about these for my real wedding (just 3 months ago!) I would have been ordering one right away (Innocence, if you must know! Isn’t it stunning…I have a thing for dotty lace). I still might… I think the hubby just might approve…

That I didn’t know about this lovely lady just shows how important it is that you Northern suppliers get your products seen and shouted about from the roof tops.  There is a whole lot of talent Up North, and I am determined to showcase it! Contact me!

Putting my personal crusade to one side, lets see what Claire from Florrie Mitton Couture is hiding in her Etsy shop

What sort of bride do you design for?
.

I design for the stylish bride who loves a vintage aesthetic with a modern twist
.

.

What is your most popular design and why?

.

I’d say the most popular design is my Aphrodite garter because it is something totally different to the traditional garter that brides wear.  The combination of intricate beading with a vintage look lace makes for a timeless design.

Which is your favourite design in your collection and why?

.

My favourite design is the Glitterati garter, as I just love the subtle sparkle and the luxe combination of silk and embroidery

Tell us about your own wedding day.  If you could do it again, would you wear a Florrie Mitton garter?  Which one?

.

I got married in 2008 in Italy – it was a perfect, intimate day in every way with close family and friends.  I wore a beautiful strapless satin and lace A-line gown with beading by Maggie Sottero which was perfect for the
setting we were in.  My wedding look was completed with a Romanesque headdress by Stephanie Browne.

The Florrie Mitton design I would have worn (had my range existed then) would be the Carrie design as I love the blush colour and the vintage pearl drape, it’s just so luxurious!

Which celebrity would you most like to design a garter for and why?
.

I think now that Scarlet Johansson is newly single, it would have to be her….I’m sure she will get married again one day!  Scarlett is effortlessy beautiful and stylish, and she seems to embody this other worldLy glamour from old Hollywood that is just captivating

.

.

Which of your designs would you choose for Kate Middleton?  Or alternatively, what would you design for her?
.

I think either the Ethereal design (above, top) as it has more of a traditional feel with the horseshoe, or the Eden or Alice garters as these feature ‘something blue’ in the form of a silk ribbon.  If she was going for something more daring then I would suggest the Goddess garter (below, bottom).  My dream though, would be to come up with something completely unique just for her….fit for a Princess!

How did you get into garter design?

.

I have a First class honours degree in Fashion design and then worked in Lingerie / underwear design for 6 years prior to creating Florrie Mitton. It is safe to say that design has always been my absolute passion.

.
It was only when planning my own wedding though, that the seed was planted for designing a garter range.  I just couldn’t find anything I liked and so after my wedding I began the process of planning a range and coming up with designs for ‘couture’ garters.

.

I wanted my designs to be completely refreshing and for brides to get excited about garters again.  My concept was to create minature works of art that would become true keepsakes /heirlooms that brides would be proud to treasure and have for their special day….and so Florrie Mitton Couture was born.

.

The name ‘Florrie Mitton’ was my great grandma’s name.  I decided to name my label after her
as she had inspired my career in fashion – I have a collection of antique fashion magazines that belonged to her that still inspire me now.

Is this your dream job?  If you didn’t do this, what would be your alternative career?
.

Absolutely, I am so passionate about what I do and love my job!  If I didn’t do this I would still be working in design in one way or another 🙂

Describe a typical working day in the life of Florrie Mitton
.

I get up around 6.30 / 7am and get ready for the day.  I begin by going through my emails and sorting out any orders that have sold through the night on my Etsy store or sort any stockists orders / enquiries.

.

Once that is done, I will pack any orders to ship that day and then get started on sewing and making any new orders that have come in.  Around 3.30 /4pm I will go to the post office to send out orders.  I also try to fit in some designing and jot down any ideas I have for new collections.

.

After that I will answer more e-mails and respond to customer questions….I always have something to do and there is never a dull moment!  Each day is different and doesn’t always follow a set pattern, but I find that quite liberating and part of the freedom of running your own business.
