To Love and To Cherish, Katie’s Cherish the Dress Shoot

Karen explains the concept: One of my all time favourite type of photo shoots is a ‘Cherish the Dress’ shoot. This is arranged after your wedding and gives you the opportunity to wear the dress once again without the pressures of a wedding The gown you wear on your wedding day has a very special meaning, more so that any other outfit you’ll ever wear. The photo shoot re-creates the feeling you had on your wedding day but with a twist.

Many people have the impression that you trash the dress but nothing could be further from the truth! I love to work with my clients to come up with a location that suits them but also contrasts well to their wedding day. The beach is always a popular location but urban locations work well too, especially if you had a country house style wedding.

There are lots of reasons why I love these shoots so much, if I’ve shot the clients wedding I already know them pretty well so the shoot is fun and relaxed. I also love the fantastic comments we get from passers by who sometimes do a double take to see a bride in an unusual location!

Katie was one of my brides from 2010 and I was really keen to work with her again as she was as beautiful inside as she was on the outside and to me she epitomised a ‘glowing bride’. Not only that but prior to her wedding day she really didn’t like her photo taken but now there is no stopping her and I like to think I played a small part in showing her just how stunning she is.

The North East has some stunning locations but this one was at the top of my list when I thought about Katie’s Cherish the Dress shoot. Bolam Lake was a place that I visited a lot as a child and I always remembered how beautiful it was in Autumn…and boy was it a perfect day!
