Brides Up North’s newest Featured Supplier, the wonderful York Place Studios, sent another gorgeous Real Wedding to my inbox. I love the simplicity of this Yorkshire wedding.

Dominique of York Place Studios sets the scene: There are few places in the UK steeped in so
much history as the beautiful city of York. Originally founded by the Roman’s in 71AD it’s eventful past is evident for all to see as you walk throughout the city. From the Viking centre through the Norman castle walls and the Tudor housing of the Shambles, York’s heritage engulfs you even as its beauty entrances you. This is a place of national historical interest, but it’s a more personal history that led Sofia and Jim to choose to celebrate their love in the heart of the ancient town.

This is where they found one another. This is where they shared their first kiss. This is where
they fell in love.

They love the city and know it like the back of their hands. He grew up here and, though the pair had chosen a classically English wedding, it was clear that Sofia’s Mexican roots remained dear to her heart as she chose a stylish white gown: the weave an infusion of British tradition and Spanish flair.

From the moment she greeted us to the moment we left, Sofia’s smile simply stole the show. She emitted a radiance that couldn’t help but lighten the room and everyone else around her, a smile matched only by
the one that spread across Jim’s face as he turned to see his bride walk own the aisle.

As they left the room together for the first time as husband and wife, the love surrounding them was tangible. Together they are such a perfect couple, so in love, and so clearly adored by their friends and family.

It was a beautiful setting in the gardens of York registry office but we stole Mr and Mrs Murphy briefly away for a more intimate shoot. Sofia and Jim whisked us away on a tour down the back streets of York, using their expert local knowledge of the classic tourist spots and deeper into the heart of York’s history.

The cobbled streets and old stone buildings of Ogleforth Lane (one of their favourite places) provided the backdrop for some of our favourite photographs.

Former lawyer and bride to be Julia founded Brides Up North in 2010 with a chip on her shoulder. Frustrated by the poor Northern presence in glossy bridal magazines and online, she decided to do something about it herself.
Astounded by the rapid growth of her blog and brand, Julia now manages Brides Up North’s online content alongside their busy wedding exhibition season, industry events and related commissions. And she’s always, always, got a new project on the go…
