This couple were so lovely, completely relaxed and easy going. I received a phone call a few days before their wedding from a friend of theirs who thought it would be a good idea to give me the heads up on a surprise he had lined up. He told me that he was going to organise a Doctor Who Dalek to turn up at the wedding. I must admit I wasn’t sure if I was being wound up or not…I was assured that it would be well received but I must admit I did have some reservations!

The day before the wedding I met with Karen and Richard to talk though the finer details of the wedding and it was quite hard to keep a straight face! I was trying to work out why on earth this couple would want a Dalek to turn up on their wedding day! As it turned out the couple were in fact huge Doctor Who fans.

I staged a group photograph so everyone’s attention was on the camera and from the distance a rumble followed by a Darlek’s electronic alien voice started rolling in. I must say it was incredible, the guy inside apparently spent much of the year making this thing and it was more Darlek – like than the real things! The guy inside was actually really funny – he even had a party popper in his weapon turret!

The couple were presented with a signed photographic print congratulating them both on their wedding day from the actual Doctor Who at the time David Tennant.

Daleks aside, the day was lovely – great sunshine, lovely crowd and I got a perfect 15 minutes with the couple for some lovely signature shots of them round the grounds.

Certainly one of the most fun and original surprises I’ve seen to date!
