Purple Rain, A Real Wedding – Gileng & Charlie

Brides Up North Featured Supplier Matt Ethan Photography sent me this brilliant set of images from Gileng (isn’t she gorgeous?!) and Charlie’s Real Wedding to feature on the wedding blog today and I just love them!

Over to Gileng: We got engaged on a beach overlooking Dunstanburgh Castle in August 2010 and we married on 11 June this year, with our ceremony at Holy Trinity Jesmond, Newcastle upon Tyne and a reception at Jesmond Dene House.

We chose our venue as it was close to our church in  a scenic part of Newcastle. I was living in the area as a student at the time. We like manor houses, but we don’t like dusty chandeliers and fussy china ornaments. Jesmond Dene House was perfect in it’s balance of modern and old.

We had a garden theme.  There wasn’t a strict colour theme, but we ended up having a lot of greens and purples.

.

There were natural garden string bows on the invitations. The table plan was a twiggy tree, in which the names were hung, alongside tiny silver buckets. On the tables were garden lavenders, potted in silver buckets.

Because of the rain,  I ended up in wellies!

I wanted a dress that was unadorned and pure. I also wanted a white dress, which is surprisingly difficult to find as most people wear ivory.  I resorted to designing my own dress, and had it made by a bespoke wedding dress shop called Eve and Adam in Newcastle.

The adult bridesmaids were in peacock green cocktail dresses from Oasis. The flower girls wore white Tiger Lily dresses from Debenhams.

Our flowers were by Helen Jolliffe at Wedding Flowers for You in Newcastle. I carried faded purple tea roses, with dark green ivy. The bridesmaids had bunches of gypsophilia. The groomsmen all had white roses as button holes. Charlie’s buttonhole matched the bridesmaid bouquet.

We travelled in a vintage, burgundy 1940s Rolls Royce, complete with no power steering! The company – Champagne and Roses – were so lovely, and really made everyone feel at ease.

A friend made a 3 tiered cake with plan white icing. Each tier was a different flavour: chocolate, Victoria sponge and lemon.  Alongside the edge of each tier was white lace. To finish it off, we placed a few sprigs of lavender on the top.

In the evening, we used a local band called The Imposters, they are a great soul/funk band and play regularly at As You Like It. They stirred up a great party atmosphere and the dance floor was packed all night.

We honeymooned in Sorrento, Italy.

.

My top tip for other Brides Up North is It can be easy to become distracted with the details for the wedding day but make sure you invest as much time in your relationship, as you do in the wedding. It is the point after all! Keep the main thing the main thing.
