Over to Rebecca: Jeremy and I married at the Amathus Beach Hotel Paphos, Cyprus on 29 th June 2011, and set sail aboard the Ocean Flyer Yacht for the reception.

.

I met him on my first day at work at Stockton Borough Council. I knew instantly that we would be in each others lives, it was a very strange feeling.  We knew each other for about a year before we started dating but our first official date was on fireworks night 2007. I had lost my mum at an early age and always wondered if she would give me a sign to show me who might be my soul mate. One day whilst talking about marriage Jeremy asked me where and when my mum and dad got married. I then grabbed their wedding album to find out. I said “Look Jeremy, they were married on your birthday”; we then looked closer and saw that it was actually Jeremy’s birth date, 13/03/1976. That was the weirdest thing ever to happen to us and we definitely saw it as a sign.

We often go to the Lakes as Jeremy’s family have a holiday home there. During a week’s holiday he told me to pack an overnight bag. He then took me to the lovely Belsfield Hotel that overlooks Lake Windermere. The view was amazing, he had decorated the room with my favourite flowers, we then had a lovely meal and went for a walk in the gardens. He then proposed to me at sunset overlooking the lake. I grabbed him and said yes!

I found my perfect dress on Google! I did a search on Grecian wedding dresses and the first site that came up was Maggie Sottero. She did a whole range of Grecian styled chiffon dresses just what I was after. I looked at hundreds but I knew I wanted this particular one when I saw it.
.

I found it in the flesh at Christabel & Keats in Hartlepool, they were a stockist of the Maggie Sottero dress I liked. The staff at the boutique were fantastic and so helpful.

.

The dress was a one piece slim line gown with a zipper closure. Gossamer Chiffon is ruched toward an extraordinarily beaded deep v-neckline. The high glamour encrusted halter straps transform into a sensational bar back treatment.  The dress was at a great price and that was another reason I bought it from there, it was under £800.

.

On the day I felt amazing. I knew it was the right dress for the style I wanted. I felt so glamorous and sexy and I could feel the quality of the dress.

.

My tiara was by Richards Designs which I got from Christabel & Keats at £65. It was a headband style with lots of pearls and crystals in it.

I had three bridesmaids, my sister Ellie, my sister Marie and my best friend Claire.  I have three sisters and wanted them all as my bridesmaids, but my eldest sister Kate couldn’t fly to Cyprus as she has heavily pregnant with my new nephew Freddy. My best friend Claire was like a rock in helping me arrange and sort things like my hen do so, it was an easy decision to ask her to be bridesmaid, well she was more like my maid of honour. In keeping with  the Grecian theme I saw a dress in Coast that was made of chiffon, electric blue in colour and had an asymmetric strap.  In the bright light of Cyprus they looked amazing as it really was electric blue and it went really well with the fuchsia notes like the flowers and favours.

I used Bobbi Brown and MAC makeup to create my bridal look, and my top tip for other would be to make sure you look natural, nothing worse than a bride caked in make up! Also go for something you wear day to day as if its totally different you might worry about how you look all day.

Cyprus Dream Weddings arranged the whole day with us via email and it was a case of sitting back and putting your trust in them to do a good job, which they did! The ceremony was set in the gardens of the Amathus Beach hotel that overlooked the Mediterranean Sea. It was very hot but luckily there was a lovely sea breeze that kept everybody cool. We had a white gazebo which faced the sea. We then had rows of chairs behind us which had white covers on. We had a red carpet too! We attracted quite a crowd as passers by and other hotel guests stood to watch. It was lovely, not too long and not too short. We did get quite emotional, especially when saying the vows.

Our reception was aboard the Ocean Flyer yacht. A beautiful white 60 foot yacht that definitely had the wow factor. We hired the yacht from 6pm till midnight. The crew had decorated it with balloons and ribbons matching our colour scheme and really looked after us, especially the Captain, he was in charge but wanted us to have the best day ever. The tables and chairs were beautifully decorated..

Bob the DJ, an ex pat working in Paphos provided our evening entertainment. The yacht in itself was entertainment as it cruised along the Cypriot shore with fantastic views and also when the sun set it whilst we were a few miles off the coast it was just perfect. We also had fireworks from the back of the yacht.

.

Our first dance was a song called “On Call” by the Kings of Leon. We both love this band and this particular song has special meaning to us, the song title in itself says everything, on call for each other whenever and wherever. Not a traditional wedding song, but definitely our song.

Alan Gibson was our photographer, and he was amazing.  He travelled to Cyprus just for us and it was his first international job. He did my sisters wedding the year before and he was fab so we wanted him to be there. On a day when you feel so nervous he was full of whit and banter which really helped. He is excellent at what he does. It was great that he asked us what photos we wanted but then used his initiative and took photos that were natural and not to posy.  I would recommend him in a heartbeat.

My top tip for other Brides Up North would be to try not to stress out about everything. Some brides know what they have wanted since they were five and are very organised, not everyone is like that. I certainly wasn’t. If your unsure about something then ask around, get advice, asking for help doesn’t mean your doing what others say.

.

If you are having a destination wedding – remember to budget for the luggage costs! Our suitcases weighed far too much as due to getting married abroad we had to pack a lot of extra things.  This led to more costs at the airport and if we had of known we would have been charged then that would have been ok but we didn’t so check your airline’s terms and conditions.
