Let’s find out a little bit more about this fabulous friend of Brides Up North and her gorgeous creations.  .

.

Over to Katy:  I started up What Katy Did Next a few years ago alongside my Degree course in Textiles and Surface Design. The course was a huge inspiration and fuelled my passion for all things handmade. As soon as I got engaged in 2009 I was practically addicted to wedding blogs, and started sketching a few bridal headpieces as a way to ‘pretty up’ my short hairstyle. After a push in the right direction from photographer Sally Thurrell who had me design and make an awful lot of her wedding accessories, i set about designing my first bridal headwear collection.

After a wonderful trial and error type journey my collection was born. It consists of twenty pieces split into four sections – Bohemian, Classic, Romance & Vintage. I realised I couldn’t stick to one theme, purely because the handful of brides who contacted me after Sally had such different tastes and I wanted a collection that could promote all these styles. I kept the Classic bride pale and interesting, adding touches of pink and floral to Romance, feathers and sparkle for the Vintage bride and hand cut leather butterflies and dried lavender for a Bohemian feel.

The handmade nature of my work is a huge bonus for clients who want something that little bit different. I am happy to work with brides on commissioned pieces and have already worked with a lot of Mother of the Brides helping design pieces to match their outfits. My website showcases my headwear with a guide price so that custom orders can be made, and as the pieces are made to order they are easily changed to match each bride’s requirements.

I also have a lot of fun creating other wedding accessories. My love bird & peg doll cake toppers are hugely popular at the moment, with couples being able to personalise styles, colours and fabrics. My sequin heart shoe clips are a hit with bridesmaids and I have recently added garters and ring pillows to my list of products.

Such a beautiful headpiece. Unfortunately, it wouldn’t match my wedding dress but I would love to win this for my sister for her 18th birthday on the 14th March 2012. It would suit her and her style so well.

I would rock this headpiece as i am also a Katy, and also studied the same course at the same uni as this Katy haha! I love her beautiful, unique pieces and would love one to brighten up my plain hair for a very special event :) This design is really feminine and delicate and it would be a lovely little treat to add some sparkle to my christmas! Good luck everyone! x x

Although I am already married I would love to win the headpiece for my daughter’s bottom drawer!

Because these pieces are sooo gorgeous, something to keep forever as they will never date and then hand on to the next generation of brides, and despite having just celebrated my 15th wedding anniversary, i think i would still love to wear such an amazing vintagelooking piece…..

Katy your designs are beautiful, and I know just a perfect someone (my girlfriend) would absolutely love anything that you make. I’d love to be in her good books for Christmas, it would be a lovely way to say I love you and one of the best presents I would ever be able to give her. I would love to win the headpiece to put a smile on her face, there’s no better feeling in the world and you would certainly put a smile on mine if I won it! Keep up the good work x
