Friend of the wedding blog, James P Lester Photography, recently submitted Kelly & Phill’s beautiful Real Wedding in the South of France and I have been dying to share it here.  This Northern couple headed to the wine region to tie the knot this summer in a perfect day full of colour, sunshine, vin et l’amour.  Parfait!

Over to James:  As a wedding photographer, I love it when I get bookings for really unique weddings; weddings that stick in my mind as one of the highlights of the year. Kelly and Phill’s wedding was just that.

They were looking to get married in the South of France and headed out into the Bordeaux area in search of venues. After visiting a few, ahead of schedule, they settled on a castle as the place they were to be married but unable to get an early flight back home to Harrogate, they were forced to stay another night in France. Luckily for them, this led them to find the even more stunning Chateau Riguad nestled amongst the vineyards and they immediately swapped their venue.

The plans were set for five days of relaxation with family and friends enjoying food, wine and laughter (and a canoeing session down the Dordogne river). The big day was just as relaxed, with a 4pm ceremony leaving everyone time to have a dip in the open-air pool in the sunshine, enjoying a selection of baguette sandwiches and trips to the open bar whenever the mood took them.

The ceremony was set under the tree in the courtyard with Father Stephen, their priest who travelled over from Harrogate as well.

.

The service included moving readings from family and friends and was followed by a beautiful mix of locally sourced canapés and champagne. A talented four man band meandered through the guests with amusing acoustic renditions of popular songs providing fantastic entertainment for the guests whilst I took the happy couple out into the vineyards for a beautifully sunlit portrait session. The only brief I had was ‘we want it to look like France’ – I think the vineyards say it all!

The evening meal was in a wonderfully rustic barn with a pull-your-own station outside which unsurprisingly never failed to have a queue. The relaxed theme was followed by moving speeches and thank-yous and a surprise firework display which looked even more special against the dark sky in the heart of rural France.

.

The band returned for the evening’s entertainment and into the night as everyone piled onto the dance floor. With only having a B&B to go home to, it really was a pleasure to stay until 2am photographing right up to the end. The wee hours were rounded off sitting under the stars on the outdoor couches eating pain au chocolate.

The morning after was a paracetamol fuelled hog-roast rounding off the stay before heading back home after five days of sunny French life.
