Real Wedding Recap 2011: Chicka Bow Wow Chihuahua! A Farm Wedding In Yorkshire – Katie & Thomas

December 24th, 2011 | Julia Braime

.

Starting off my Christmas 2012 recap of the wedding blog’s favourite Real Weddings from 2012 with style is Katie & Thomas’ farm wedding in Yorkshire.  This wedding manages to be crazy, quirky and cool whilst also being exceptionally beautiful.  I just love it!  Merry Christmas Katie and Thomas!

When Matt Tordoff of Greyeye Photography got in touch to say that he had an amazing Yorkshire wedding for me to to feature on the wedding blog with chimney sweeps, bubbles, tunnels, head to toe tweed, rainbow wellies and a Chihuahua bridesmaid, I thought it was another of his jokes (like the time he put me in Maggie Sottero in the Yorkshire Dales and handed me a lead attached to a whippet).  Turns out it wasn’t.

With some stunning photography by Mr Tordoff, Katie and Thomas’ Real Wedding is something very, very special indeed.

Over to Katie: We got engaged on Valentines Day 2011 after going to the Isle of Skye for a week to stay in a thatched cottage with our Great Danes and married on 13th August 2011 in our local village church at Nun Monkton.

After getting married we took a short drive back to our family small holding for the celebrations to start. It was an obvious choice as it is a very prominent part of our lives.  We wanted an informal English country wedding.

My dress was from The Bridal Lounge Of York and my bridesmaids wore dresses made by Rebecca Downes which were gold with a cream underskirt to match our colour scheme.  I carried Old English roses with white hydrangeas and white gladioli in a long stem bouquet.

I stayed with my bridesmaids at Rudding Park the night before the wedding, and had organised for a vintage bus to take us to the church. whilst Tom went with his family into the village and then walked to the church with the guests.

We made a special effort of including games and ride on toys for the children that visited, a well worthwhile idea for those who want to invite children to their wedding without boring them to tears.

We had a string quartet for arrival and to be playing while the guests enjoyed their afternoon tea. Then later in the evening we had a band that played wedding classics, and to see us into the early hours we had a DJ.

Its hard to agree on our favourite part of the day.  For me, the church was particularly special and whilst Tom agrees that agree the Church was fantastic, his favourite moment was later that day when we were able to sit with our family around the fire pit and take stock of the events of the day.

After the wedding, we went to Rome for a week to soak up the sights and sounds of what the Italian capital had to offer. I didn’t know where we were going until we were queuing up at the airport!

My top tip for other Brides Up North is to look to delegate those jobs that can be delegated and try not to take on too much yourself.
