On The Couch: A Styled Shoot

If you are more of a city slicker than a big white wedding kinda gal, you aren’t alone. I get heaps of emails from girls for whom turrets just don’t cut it, searching for a more modern, quirky venue.
.
Whilst I wouldn’t call this shoot sent to me by North West photographer JAY Photographic Images a styled “inspiration” shoot, as such, what it does do is showcase how a cool venue can be just right for an updated affair and show just how hard your chosen professionals work to make your big day perfect. With lots of behind the scenes imagery, a stag with a scarf and one huge orange sofa, it’s over to Jonty of JAY Photographic Images to tell us more…

Having worked with Beverley Crawford, a Chester based make-up artist, on a previous model portfolio shoot, I was keen to look for an opportunity to leverage her in-demand bridal make-up skills and setup a bridal shoot with a local venue.
.
Oddfellows is a location I’ve visited many times as a guest of their brasserie but as it’s such a quirky wedding venue it was at the top of my list of potential venues for the shoot. We approached them to see if they would be interested in opening up their rooms to our bridal session, and they couldn’t have been more helpful. With a great bridal hair stylist, Niki Sheridan, on board we had the team we needed to create something great for us all.
.
I wanted to utilise the venue’s grand rooms as best as I could and show off Laura’s Sottero & Midgley dress in all it’s glory. With Andy playing the part of the moody groom, we were all very pleased with what we achieved.

Bev says: I wanted to organise a bridal photo shoot as It is very hard to get professional shots of the make up and hair at real weddings as it is not for you to ask the photographer to get a close up of the eye shadow! I wanted to be able to have a creative day with others in the same boat as me such as hair stylists and photographers so that we could all work together and be able to get the shots we all want and need.
.
I instantly knew I wanted to work with Jonty as we had worked on a model’s portfolio shoot months earlier and I felt I was able to ask for specific shots that I could add to my look book. Jonty made sure I got the shots that I wanted and took his time over the lighting which is exactly what I need for close up beauty shots.
.
I was very excited when Oddfellows said we could use their rooms. I feel the bride and bridesmaid dresses went really well with the decor and atmosphere of Oddfellows and allowed us to get some quirky looking shots.
