Oooooooooooohh I do love a Real Wedding!  Particularly when it’s as gorgeous as today’s instalment, sent to me by Brides Up North reader Aimee and her photographer Sarah of Pictorial Photography.  Granted, my head may be somewhat turned by all those men in uniform – but just check out the pretty elegance of Aimee and Joel’s big day – beautiful blooms, a stunning gown, killer heels, delectable details and a venue to die for.

Aimee says:  We got engaged on 22nd August 2010 under a rainbow on a beach in Mexico and were married on 9th July 2011 at Wedderburn Castle in the Scottish Borders.

We chose the venue as both come from the local area originally and met at the high school in Duns just down the road.  I wanted the whole thing to feel quite ethereal to fit in with the venue. Although since Joel is in the Royal Navy there was a distinct military feel about it!

We chose a colour palette of deep greens and blues complimented with creams.

My wedding dress was strapless, ivory silk. Very simple in design with only a little bit of detail around the bust from Emma Roy, Edinburgh. My jewellery was by Rosie Brown, Edinburgh. 

.

I carried a bouquet of cream peonies, vintage roses and ivy by The Flower Room, Berwick Upon Tweed.

My bridesmaids wore long silk dresses in a similar style to my dress in a gorgeous “spruce” colour. Again, very simple and classic from Bella B in Berwick-upon-Tweed.  My little flower girls wore cream dresses with sparkly pumps from John Lewis.  The girls carried the same cream posies as me, with thistles too.

My favourite part of our day was the ceremony. It was incredibly personal and emotional – an experience I will never forget.

We had vintage pinks and purples in silver teapots for floral decoration during the wedding breakfast.

We wanted to make the most out of seeing all of our friends and family and for that reason we made an entire weekend of it – this really made the whole event extra special. It also meant that we could get ready in the venue which was incredible and very relaxing.

Our gorgeous cake was by Liggy’s Cupcakes from her shop in Edinburgh. Liggy went to St Andrews University (like me) and I wanted to support her business. She is amazing at her job!

We opted for live music throughout the day – a string quartet, ceilidh band and singer.

After the wedding weekend, we honeymooned in Daios Cove Luxury Resort, Crete.

My top tip for other Brides Up North would be  to make sure that you get together with friends and family on the Friday night – the wedding itself goes so quickly that the extra time to catch up with people really makes the whole event special. It’s also a relaxing way to kick things off!
