Gavin says: Most shoots start in being planned in my head after a spark of inspiration from a magazine article, an internet search or something else that has passed my nose. In the case of this shoot the planning process was ignited after a chance meeting at the Brides up North Tweet Up in Leeds over a glass of bubbly! Having taken the opportunity to attend the gathering to meet local wedding suppliers I was not expecting it to result in me packing my car full of a make up artist, a model and a load of stunning vintage wedding dresses!

Well, after doffing my cap to the other wedding photographers on the night I got talking to a really nice couple called Anthony and Julie, who it turns out own the stunning Hargate Hall in Derbyshire! After chatting about life, the universe and wedding venues my grey matter was on the churn with plans of a styled shoot in the hall and its grounds.

After the weather got a little sunnier I managed to squeeze into Anthony and Julie’s busy schedule and book a day in to shoot. Hargate Hall, built in 1899, is located in expansive grounds and has the feel of a great venue when you arrive in the driveway. Having a number of rooms on site and space for marques and the likes, it is definitely a perfect wedding venue. The combination of the building and the surrounding greenery got me a bit giddy to be honest….

The day itself was a very relaxed shoot that took the team from the main hall up the iconic staircase up to the massive window! The outside of the building gave a different perspective, offering some stunning scenes on the stone steps and under the overhanging trees.

Lots of preparations went on in the background with the amazing Vicki Suddaby (Make up Artist) to pull together the shoot you see here. Eleanor Hare was a fantastic model and brought much fun to the day along with some fantastic jewellery kindly supplied by Vintage Bridal Jewellery.
.
My main aims for the shoot were to encapsulate the stunning building and its grounds but also the quality and style of the dresses so kindly loaned to us from Roseau Bridal.
.
Thanks to everyone involved in a great day.

Former lawyer and bride to be Julia founded Brides Up North in 2010 with a chip on her shoulder. Frustrated by the poor Northern presence in glossy bridal magazines and online, she decided to do something about it herself.
Astounded by the rapid growth of her blog and brand, Julia now manages Brides Up North’s online content alongside their busy wedding exhibition season, industry events and related commissions. And she’s always, always, got a new project on the go…

Fab shots by Gavin, make-up by Vicky, and styling/modelling by Eleanor – we adored the images and are so happy to see them featured here (we’ve just stumbled across them by accident!)
Great shoot at a great venue, really shows off its features, rich and stately, but rustic and surrounded by gorgeous Peak District countryside! Like it even more as the wedding gowns were by Rouseau bridal and our first wedding here was for the Rousseau’s!
