Today’s absolutely splendid Real Wedding in the Welsh border countryside was sent to us by Yorkshire lass real bride Faye and Lissa Alexandra Photography

.

I absolutely adore how Faye and Neil have made every element of their wedding personal to them.  As with most of the finer things in life: the delight is in the detail.

Faye says:  We got engaged on 7th March 2011 in Paris (on my 30th!) watching the Eiffel tower flashing and married on 21 April 2012 at St Andrews Church followed by Brobury House & Gardens for the reception.

We chose the venue because it had beautiful gardens and we just got excited as soon as we were shown round even though it was raining! Pru the owner was lovely and having the venue all to ourselves also appealed!

I chose a slim fitting satin dress from Brides of Harrogate. {Editor’s note: see this morning’s post to win a wedding dress from this fabulous company!}.

.

I have no idea what flowers made up my bouquet! I just requested a mixture that had a wild feel to them. I think there was some tulips in there!

.

My bridesmaids wore jade “Jocasta” gowns by Coast.

We added a lot of our own special touches to the day.  For example, the bunting was knitted especially by my mum and her friends; our favours were moustaches (I have had a lot of tash parties in the past so was linked to me) and spectacles (Neil is well know for his unusual choice of glasses). Each favour was in an envelope wrapped in wool to match the bunting.

Our centre pieces were teapots from charity shops with potted plants in them. They were stood on books to represent the areas (famous for literature).  The table names where streets where we had lived and there were photos of each street with one or both of us in – depending on who had lived there!)

On my hen do we went to a craft place and painted piggy banks (I love pigs), so in the entrance to the marquee we displayed all the painted pigs for all the girls who attended to collect. It was a good talking point for everyone.

Instead of a wedding cake we chose a mixture of mini cakes, scones and biscuits – we didn’t want anything too formal and we weren’t bothered by the traditional ‘cutting of the cake’ photo.

Apart from saying my vows… my favourite part of the day has to be looking around as everyone opened their favours and seeing all our friends and family in moustaches and glasses laughing!

In the evening we had a DJ who played the music we requested and we had a good boogie! Plus we had a DIY photo booth which was a big hit!

After the wedding we honeymooned in Vietnam – we travelled for two weeks and had a week chilling on an island!  Bliss!

My top tip for other Brides Up North would be that if you have a wedding like mine where you do everything i.e. don’t have a wedding planner or a typical wedding venue (ours only do 5ish weddings a year) then ask someone you trust who is not involved in the day (i.e. not bridesmaids) to keep an eye on all the timings. It would help to take the pressure of you wondering if all is going to plan!

Faye & Neil both look so gorgeous! Love Faye’s dress and adore the individual wedding cakes. Such a good idea and avoids the hassle of cutting the cake, plus they look so cute 🙂
