Lady Britannia! A Fun Olympics Bridal Fashion Shoot

So we crashed out of the footy, but Andy Murray is doing pretty well at Wimbledon, right? Now I like a bit of national pride, but my husband has pretty much been glued to the box for weeks on end. Are your partners the same, or are you right there with them?
.
Sneaky strawberry and cream opportunities aside, the peace and quiet is rather nice, but I was looking forward to seeing some more of him shortly. But, alas, it’s not to be. I’d forgotten about the big one.
.
.
.
.
Because Euro 2012 is small fry compared to what’s right around the corner: the Olympics!
.
It’s been a big year for Britain already what with the Diamond Jubilee celebrations (you can catch up on some of the fabulous styled shoots I featured that weekend here, here, here, here, here, here and here), and I’ve decided that if I can’t beat him, I may as well join him!
.
We don’t have tickets for any events, so I’ll be grabbing the popcorn, breaking out the bunting and singing for Team GB. You know what? I can’t wait.

Today, in this fun shoot sent to me by Brides Up North Featured Supplier Fable & Promise and Kerry Baker Make Up Artist, the wedding industry get in on the action too. What do you think girls? Should brides stick to dashing up the aisle? Would you rock a patriotic wedding look? Or is that best left to Sporty Spice?
.
Let’s fly the flag!

Kerry Baker, the make up artist on the shoot and coordinator says: I wanted to do a red, white and blue themed shoot but wanted to steer away from the sugar coated Jubilee style. So, with the Olympics and Team GB in mind, I decided on a very strong, gritty Lady Britannia style sports shoot and set about putting together my own elite team of professionals to help me do it. As a make-up artist specialising in weddings, I love to experiment and do something outside of the box occasionally so have started styling shoots to allow me to indulge in my creativity! I started with Union Jack lip tattoos and it grew from there. I kept the make up minimal using, just simple strokes of eye-liner and false lashes completed the look to keep the focus on the dramatic lips.

Having met the lovely Charlotte from Fable & Promise, I knew with her talent for designing unique creations she would be the perfect partner on the project. Together we chose the dresses to feature in the shoot, and after chatting over ideas Charlotte "picked up the baton" (sorry, couldn’t resist) and came up with some wonderful designs which were matched exactly with the look I was going for. In fact, when she unveiled them on the day of the shoot I think I may have squealed I was so happy with them! Oh and the clever lady also made the headpieces too!
.
.
.
.
So after sorting out the dresses and venue (UCLAN Sports arena, Preston) I asked a friend and fantastic hair stylist Carly Ryan to do the models hair. I asked Carly for a sporty but edgy fashion look, and she did a really fantastic job.
.
Lastly I invited K&I Imaging duo Karen and Ian to take the photographs for the shoot. I had a lot of ideas on poses for the models (including replication of the infamous tennis girl black and white image from the 80s) which they took on board and really made the whole project come alive, despite the rain and the cold conditions!
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
And of course I have to mention the models, Stacey, Su, Lynn and Lauren. All friends of mine who have modelling experience who, along with Carly, Charlotte Karen and Ian all gave up their time to be involved in the project.

Don’t miss Fable & Promise’s one day sample sale this coming weekend! Charlotte says: Starting with a catwalk show to see the dresses in all their glory, brides are then able to try the dresses on and meet other wedding industry specialists to help plan other aspects of their day.

I love this, it exudes patriotism! And the pics are beautiful. Looked like fun was had by all.
We had such a laugh on this photoshoot and more than one or two quizzical looks from the people at the arena trying to train. It was just too much fun
It was lots of fun! I was so tempted to launch that javelin! Fab shoot, gorgeous dresses and a brilliant team behind it!
Well done everyone – it’s great to feature something so original and fun. xxx
I’ve just found your fab feature via Brides Up North/Facebook..Love it, it made me smile and it’s great to see a non-traditional wedding shoot, It’s really fresh and full of flair!
The shoot was great fun to do and Karen and I had to be innovative (as any wedding photographer worth their salt will agree) to work around the Lancashire weather, whilst not compromising the great work done on the dresses by Charlotte, hair by Carly and make-up by Kerry. The models were lovely as ever and didn’t complain about some of our requests on the track (note to you brides – the dress of your dreams may look stunning, but is the price of your mobility and comfort too high?) even putting them in the starting blocks! If anyone would like to see the other shots from the shoot, either visit our website at http://www.photographerlancashire.co.uk or like us on Facebook

Aww it’s lovely to see people’s comments on my little project
As a make-up artist it was so much fun to organise and style, although I did despair at times at the weather! Thanks Julia for featuring the photos, and on my birthday too, a great present
xx
What a unique idea for a shoot! The dresses and make-up are amazing. Very on point with the upcoming holiday, olympics & wedding season!
What a great shoot, love the javelin pose! Fabulous work Kerry.
