Happy happy Sunday to you Brides Up North.  Anyone said “I do!” this weekend?  You can add a big kiss from me to the outpouring of love that you will most certainly be feeling from family and friends!  Congratulations!

One couple who’ll be there soon are Brides Up North reader Laura and her man Dan, who tie the knot in the next few weeks.  With amazing images by the one and only James Melia, lets hear their love story.

Laura says: We got engaged by the sea! A little tradition of ours is to go crabbing in Anglesey and we decided to take a trip there whilst we were home during Easter weekend. It was a surprise and completely orchestrated by him. After the big question we sipped fizz, ate ice cream and danced on the beach to a Tom Jones impersonator. It couldn’t have been better.

We are getting married this August in a local church a mere five minute walk from our flat. Then we head to one of our favourite restaurants for great food and wine and dancing.

We met back home in Southport. It was the summer between University terms and we were out in a small bar with mutual friends. I think it was our love of ridiculous dancing that drew us together!

.

.

Our proper first date was a trip to London to see the Strokes and Belle and Sebastian. It was a hoot…after the gig we spent the evening wandering around London, along the Thames – we even saw Colin Firth! I think we knew from that night that we had stumbled upon something a bit special.

I knew he was the one pretty soon into it…it wasn’t an easy start to a relationship with some family stuff going on, but he was a complete trooper. He made sure I was always having fun, and organised a million and one day trips. And to give him credit, he’s still pretty good at that today, 6 years on.  I love his ability to make me laugh; his kindness and generosity and how well he takes care of me.  He likes my cooking!

Our biggest wish for married life is that we continue to grow together; that we continue to work as a team and enjoy each other. That we keep making each other laugh and working on our relationship to keep improving it.

Our engagement shoot was part of the deal. James Melia encourages you to have one so you get to meet him, and get used to being in front of a camera. It wasn’t something we wanted to do originally but we are so glad we did.

We loved it! James was amazing – he made us feel so relaxed and we genuinely had a lot of fun. It has put us at complete ease about the wedding day, and we cannot wait for all our friends and family to be featured in the pictures too! We have had a few printed for family and ourselves – we are yet to figure out where to put them though!

I think Brides Up North is  a great resource for local people – so many wedding sites and blogs are American or focused solely in London. The Brides Up North site means you have access to all the great suppliers and crafts people in your area. Its important to get local people involved in your wedding and Brides Up North provides a site that brings all the best people together.
