A Year In Bloom – A Bouquet For August

Julia Braime

.

Morning all (although, yes, I agree, it is closer to the afternoon – so sue me, even a needs a Bank Holiday Sunday lie in)!  The sun seems to be up this morning, so lets hope it lasts for any Bank Holiday wedding celebrations, picnics or parties.

.

If, like me, you are using the Bank Holiday weekend to catch up on admin, VAT returns and invoicing, then this beautiful blog post should cheer you up!  Although it might take a lot of David Austin roses to lessen my VAT gloom…

.

Not to drag you down, let’s hand you straight over to one of my friends and very favourite florists Sarah of Leafy Couture who in this recurring series shares her favourite seasonal blooms for each month of the year with twelve stunning bouquet ideas for you to print out and keep.

Sarah says: Our bouquet of choice for August embraces the textures of late summer. We are madly in love with David Austin roses- a specialist rose grower that breeds the most exquisite roses. They are a wonderful extravagance for wedding flowers and some of the varieties have a heady scent. For this bouquet we chose the peach Juliet variety, it is detailed on the website as being the £3 million pound rose as it took fifteen years of breeding to release the first cut rose variety.

.

Peach has seen a revival in wedding bouquets over the past few years, so we teamed Juliet with Peach Avalanche roses, green hydrangea, rosemary and poppy seed heads and pittosporum foliage. The poppy seed heads are almost a hint to autumn and the small ones look great in buttonholes too.

.

I adore the combination as the peach tones are so delicate that the green tones of the other flowers let the delicate peach reign. I like comparison of the roses and specialist roses, the endless petals of the Juliet are gorgeous. We finished the bouquet with green ribbon as to tone in and peach pearl headed pins. This bouquet would compliment a peach or gold colour scheme. It would work especially well with sage green, navy, peach or ivory dresses.
