Elegance Rising! A Real Wedding At Rise Hall – Kay & Ian

And why not round the working week off with another beautiful Real Wedding?

This elegant celebration was sent to me by real bride Kay and Brides Up North Wedding Exclusive exhibitor Andrew at Insight Photography and the setting is a very special one, being the fabulous location for one of our Brides Up North Wedding Exclusives this Autumn: Sarah Beeny’s Rise Hall.

This is an amazing place to host your wedding day, whether you dress it to the nines or go for a simple, letting the venue speak for itself decor like Kay and her new husband did.

For now though, let’s hear from the lovely Kay:  We got engaged half way down a mountain while skiing in 2006 (we met skiing and it is a passion for both of us)!  We were married on 7th July 2012 at Rise Hall, near Beverley.

.

We chose the venue as we have a love of restoration, old buildings and also for the exclusivity.  It was the whole day in one location including accommodation.  The venue was the star of the day for us and so we kept everything muted, simple and elegant so as not to detract from the venue, with a colour scheme of navy and ivory.

I wore a halter neck silk ruffled long ivory dress from Tickled Pink in Doncaster.  I chose it for it’s elegant simplicity and comfort and the halter neck helped disguise some scars on my neck.  I carried a bouquet of white cala lilies from Flowers By Sally May.

My hair and makeup was by Victoria Farr Make Up & Hair Specialist. 

.

My bridesmaids wore satin navy strapless knee length fitted dresses with one vertical ruffle detail from Coast and the groomsmen wore navy tailed jackets, with navy striped trousers and ivory waistcoats from Moss Bros.

Entertainment wise, we used Thomas Benjamin, a solo guitarist during the service and outside for the first drinks and had a disco at night… plus an after party in the bar which started at midnight and went on until 4am!

The chance to see all our friends and family was the best part of the day for me as we all live so far apart and rarely get together and I was very humbled at how far people came from at such short notice and through torrential rain.groom).  Ian said that the sun shining and everyone outside chatting and laughing while Thomas Benjamin played fantastic music was his highlight.

To keep our younger guests entertained we laid on a big selection of outside toys and chose and individually wrapped presents for all the children including a disposable camera and a list of things to photograph – which kept them busy!

We chose a very simple three tier elegant ivory cake decorated with just a few cala lilies by Jaqui Cowie at A Little Slice of Heaven, Beverley.  All other catering and co-ordination was by the fabulous Dine Services.

Unfortunately we didn’t get the chance for a honeymoon immediately after the wedding due to work commitments, but we have booked a week’s skiing in a fantastic location for the New Year week 2012/2013.

My top tips for other Brides Up North would be don’t try to please everyone, because you just can’t and don’t skimp on the photographer, the photos will last forever. Pick a photographer that you feel a good connection with as well as good reputation.
