Becky says:  We got engaged in Mauritius in November 2012.  When Gra popped the question he really wanted to get married in 2012. There were six weeks left of that year… we looked into venues and there were places still available that we were very tempted by but unfortunately a close family member had to go for an emergency operation and the recovery was going to be a while so we waited until Christmas and booked our wedding for March 1st 2013.  We were very excited!

We are actually from Leicester but Gra works in Manchester and we both have friends here. We love the city & wanted a urban feel to our day and this ticked all the boxes. The Great John Street Hotel is honestly the most amazing hotel I have ever stayed in. It’s an old school house that has been converted but it’s very boutique and truly luxurious. If you have never been its worth a stay or even just visit for afternoon tea or a  cheeky cocktail. It’s the definition of beautiful!

We wanted everything to be quite neutral and simple, and chose a colour scheme of cream, dusky pink and green.

I actually bought my dress from China, I had it made and shipped over. Then I had it tweaked at a local bridal shop.  My bridesmaids were all in Monsoon gowns, and Gra and the groomsmen wore suits by Reiss.

.

Our amazing flowers were from David Wayman Flowers at Spinningfields. My bouquet was made up of cream hydrangeas, dusky pink roses and  spray roses – it was very simple and elegant.

We absolutely loved walking out of the ceremony and seeing everyone and the speeches were brilliant.

We had a moment where we both sat back and looked at all our guests and we felt so lucky to have them all with us on our special day. We were very overwhelmed.

We had brown envelopes with everyone’s names stamped on for place setting. Inside we did individual cards with a photo of each guest and wrote a special message inside.

.

We made CDs as favours.  They had all the music from our wedding day on them and had songs that remind us of all the special people involved in our wedding. We still get messages from people now saying they are listening to it in their car and reminds them of what a special day it was.

During the day we used our iPod for music. Gra is a bit of a music fanatic and sorted it all out into sections: music for the service, reception drinks and meal – all mix of swing, jazz and update music, it was perfect.  In the evening we moved down into the oyster bar and had a live band.

Charlotte at Crafty Baker made our cake. It was amazing.  We had jars around the venue that we had decorated with vintage lace and dusky pink ribbon and Charlotte had incorporated this into the cake and it all matched perfectly. My bridesmaids had also had a beautiful cake knife engraved for us that they got from notonthehighstreet.com.

We went to The Fairmont on The Palm Dubai for our honeymoon.  We only went for five nights because of work commitments but would’ve loved to have been there longer. We had a fabulous time. We went on a sand dune safari, cocktails at the Burj Al Arab (which was out of this world) and went up the Burj khalifa, and lots more adventures!  It was a special trip.

My top tip for other Brides Up North is don’t get stressed!  We planned our wedding in two months.  Make sure you get a great photographer/videographer to capture and remember your day.  I cannot recommend David Stubbs Photography enough!
