Hey y’all!  I hope the bank holiday is treating you well!  I’m officially “out of office” this weekend as the diary is miraculously clear of bridal events (for once!), but between breaks in cloud cover I couldn’t resist popping in to say hello and share this cute and colourful pop of styling inspiration, sent to me by Rebecca, button bouquet designer and owner of Bride as a Button.  Normal blogging service will resume tomorrow, and in the meantime, have a Pimms for me!

.

Sharing a great love of 50’s vintage fashion and style, Rebecca and photographer Martin Plant of Alter Ego Portraits decided to put together an inspirational wedding shoot that reflected a very simple 1950’s style.

Rebecca says:  We both greatly admire the classical grace of 50‘s fashion icon Audrey Hepburn and took inspiration from her view that “the true beauty in a woman is reflected in her soul…”.

We wanted to keep our imagery and photography for this shoot very true to the 50’s style, choosing a classic Lou Lou Tea dress from the fabulous Brides of Wellingborough,  red open toe shoes, victory rolls with loose curls and traditional red roses for our model’s hair.  The bouquet was designed with a mixture of red, white and black buttons and hand made beaded flowers; finished with a red and white polka dot trim to coordinate with the Vivien of Holloway dress of our bridesmaid.

We decided on a relaxed style for our groom, keeping to the customary rockabilly colours, with a matching button hole, simply pinned to red braces.

We deliberately chose a non conventional wedding setting, using some old outbuildings as the location for our shoot.  We wanted to show that the traditional 50’s style could be rocked up in a classically beautiful way.

Bride as a Button create unique and alternative button bouquets, all personally designed and handcrafted from a variety of quality materials.  These include a mixture of up-cycled jewellery, antique brooches, beads, feathers, and buttons.  These treasures are used to create the perfect bridal bouquet, custom made to suit any colour scheme or wedding theme.  Ranging from vintage to gothic and from shabby chic to funky rockabilly.  Rebecca says: I love working with brides and helping to make their day special.  It is of great importance to me to reflect a brides interests, personality and style in a bouquet.   I love the fabulous ideas and challenges I receive from brides both in the UK and worldwide.   The shoot was a fabulous experience, and the beautiful images Martin captured on the day have been a great source of creative inspiration.
