A pretty party dress, groovy tunes, a fish dinner, your nearest and dearest and each other.  That’s all you need for the perfect wedding, right?

.

Eve and Jem and their friends and families definitely thought so, as we join them for their relaxed and funky Real Wedding in The Peak District.

Eve says:  We got engaged in August 2010 watching the sunrise over Sheffield, and said I do on 1st March 2012 at Hargate Hall in the Peak District.

We chose our venue because of the gorgeous architecture, because we love the Peak district and because you can bring your own food and drink and all your guests can stay over as it sleeps 70!

“Getting married” was the only theme for the day.

I wore a short gold dress, off the peg from Ted Baker. The net underskirt was from Dream Petticoats, purple shoes from Aldo and I made my necklace myself.  I chose not to carry any flowers.  My hair was cut by Ben and coloured by Jo at Wigs and Warpaint, Sheffield.

.

The groom and best man had their suits made in Thailand when we were on holiday there.

My aunt got us both to write a love letter to each other, which we put in a sealed box with a bottle of port to open in 20 years time.

We used KK Catering for the wedding breakfast of fish and chips and Chris Beech Butcher of Walkley for sausages as canapés after the service. The beer was from White Rose Brewery, Sheffield and the wine was from Laithwaites.

We got personalised mini Heinz ketchup bottles from the USA as guest gifts and some of the guests made desserts to go on the “sweet trolley”, which was the Jem’s Nanny’s, original from the 1970s.

My favourite part of the day was partying with our friends and family and the relaxed atmosphere at Hargate Hall. There’s no cut off time!  Jem’s band played a mix of 70s, 80s and 90s pop and indie.

After the wedding we headed off snowboarding in the French Alps.

My top tip for other Brides Up North would be don’t stress about the little details. As long as everyone you love is there and you have good food and drink, you’ll have the best day!

Hargate Hall, always a great wedding at Hargate Hall :) It’s just so individual and completely DIY enabling couples to really put their stamp on the day. Anthony and Julie that run the hall are lovely too and dont charge corkage either! We’ve shot a civil partnership and 3 weddings there so far, with another this year and each one has been completely different – this wedding is no exception with the bride and grooms character shining through – Love it :)
