And I Swear. Suzanne Neville For A Real Wedding At Combermere Abbey, Cheshire –Ellie & Alexei
Posted on: 29/08/2013
Another day, another beautiful Real Wedding, but this one’s different as it’s a day to celebrate the marriage of my lovely friends Ellie and Alexei. Ellie is one in a million and helps me out at our Brides Up North events. She’s a little ray of sunshine – watch out for her if you are attending one of our pretty wedding exhibitions this Autumn and tell her what a radiant bride she made.
Unfortunately I couldn’t attend their beautiful wedding day due to a prior invitation, but the privilege of sharing it on these pages is almost as good. Ok, not really (there’s no pink fizz involved for one thing!) but the pleasure is still all mine.
I’ll hand you over to the brand new Mrs Callender, with images by CG Weddings.
Ellie says: We got engaged in February 2012 and were married on 27th July 2013 at St Anne’s Church, Nantwich then onto Combermere Abbey, Whitchurch.
I wanted the overall look of the day to be elegant and I knew I had to make the most of the venue with its beautiful English country gardens. It was easy to dress the venue as you don’t have to do much to make it look pretty. We chose a colour scheme of ivory, white and pale pink (sweet avalanche roses to be precise)!
My dress (‘Paradise’) was from Suzanne Neville’s Diamond (2013) collection, and I accessorised with a pair of sparkling Jimmy Choos. My make up was by Kate Spreckley and my hair by Rachel Casey from Terence Paul, Hale.
I carried a posy of white hydrangeas, gyp, ivory and sweet avalanche roses by Jacklyn at Precious Things, Cheshire. The bridesmaids had similar bouquets, just in white, and they had diamanté sprays in theirs for a bit of sparkle.
My dad and I travelled to the church into a cream Bentley S1 and the bridesmaids and my mum were in the vintage Austin Limousine. Both were booked through www.yourwhiteweddingscars.co.uk who were brilliant and the drivers were amazing on the day… our driver took Lex and I on the scenic route from the church to the reception venue so we could have a bit more quality, alone time together.
We used on the day wedding-planners – Caroline and Claire at Pomp & Ceremony Planning, a Brides Up North Featured Supplier. These ladies are wedding angels!
My mum made our cake – I saw roughly what I wanted and asked her to get the florist to include the flowers in the vases in between. It was traditional with a touch of sparkle round the edges.
There were also a lot of homemade DIY touches (mostly by my lovely mum) such as the Mr and Mrs dressed champagne glasses and the table plan which was a door with photo frames hanging from it. I saw something similar on Pinterest and showed it to my mum and she brought it to life… it was just a little different to others I’d seen and we loved it.
As a surprise we booked the Singing Waiters – Divas Disguised – I was a bit wary at first as I thought it might be a bit cheesy however after briefing them on no ‘cheese’ it went perfectly. It was one of the highlights of our day and definitely most of our guests’. We have had so many of our guests telling us since how much they enjoyed it and that it was something they hadn’t seen before.
In the evening we had a live band called The Provocateurs who we booked through Hipswing Entertainments. We wanted the first dance to be live. We asked the band to do a speeded up version of the song I always knew I’d have at my wedding- ‘I Swear’ by All4One… the lyrics make me cry even thinking about them!
Our honeymoon was a surprise booked by Alexei. We had two nights in Singapore then nine nights in Lombok (next to Bali). Both were great for a July/August honeymoon- the weather was perfect.
My top tip for other Brides Up North would be the enjoy the getting ready part of the day as much as you can. It’s very easy to get stressed and anxious about everything on the morning of the wedding however you can’t change it at that point so just enjoy the morning with your bridal party – it’s a very happy time. Oh and, if you can, get a wedding day coordinator/planner, mine (Pomp & Ceremony Planning) were godsends!
Congratulations Ellie & Alexei!
