Nothing like a brisk walk high in the Yorkshire dales to blow out the cobwebs on a Tuesday morning, is there? Well, except maybe taking in their beauty whilst snuggled up behind your computer screen. Another biscuit with that morning cuppa?
Today we are heading to the great outdoors with Brides Up North reader Sian and her new husband Maurice as they share their engagement news and love story.
With images by Joseph Yarrow Photography.
Sian says: Maurice asked me to marry him on a snow covered crater on the magical Lake Myvatn in Iceland, with the Northern lights dancing above us. It was a total surprise… even more so to discover at the photo display the following day that one of our fellow travellers had inadvertently captured the moment.
We wanted our wedding to be relaxed and informal. Although we live in Hebden Bridge, our ceremony took place at the Lantern Room in Bristol Registry Office. We all went for drinks afterwards at The Rummer Hotel, and we hired my favourite café at St Werbugh’s City Farm for our evening meal.
After a lengthy online courtship, which began with the words “You seem nice”, we finally met at the magic postbox at the end of my road. Our first date was an all-day escapade that took in four counties, three places beginning with B, a circus, some standing stones and a Kristen Hersh gig. Neither of us wanted the day to end.
I knew that he was the one when he drove all the way down to Somerset so I could wave through the window at my Granny. I had a stinking cold, which I didn’t want to share with her, but she didn’t have long to live and every moment was precious.
I love his big heart, his hugs, his sense of silliness and his love of the wilderness, although we are at opposite ends of the tidy spectrum! He loves my Cousin It impression.
Our biggest wish for married life is to grow old together.
We both tend to avoid being photographed, so our engagement shoot was a great chance to get to know Joseph and feel a lot more comfortable about the whole thing.
We were thrilled that Joseph was up for joining us for a stomp through the Yorkshire moorland. We are both at home up there, so were much more relaxed than we would have been on an urban shoot. We chose a local spot that means a lot to us.
I like Brides Up North for the story telling. We’d come back to share our Real Wedding with you all, but I think we have disqualified ourselves by marrying in Bristol!
Congratulations Sian & Maurice!
