Fabulous Photographer: Vogue Shot

It’s time to meet another of our Featured Suppliers, without whom his little corner of the interweb would certainly cease to exist.  This afternoon I’m introducing David of Vogue Shot Photography, based in Leeds.  Choosing a wedding photographer can be a very confusing (and dangerous) game – I wrote a little post about the process here – and it pays to get to know your chosen professional, how they operate and their style of work as best you can.  Search the blog for “Fabulous Photographer” and you’ll get to meet some of the best in the business and crucially: in your area.  For now, let’s say hello to David…

David says: I have been a photographer for about 10 years, studying photography at college and university. I got into wedding photography when a friend who had liked my work asked me to shoot their wedding, and I never looked back.

I chose to continue wedding photography after shooting my friend’s wedding because I loved the whole day. I try to capture the emotion and little moments that happen within a blink of an eye, those moments of pure joy and elation that otherwise might have been missed.

My favourite thing about being a wedding photographer is the freedom of creativity, using my creativity to show a couples’ love and happiness with one another. I’m not there just to capture what happens on the day, but to capture the feeling of the day that will be remembered in 20 years time when my couple are looking back at their photos. That and the pure joy I see on the couples’ faces when they get to see the photos for the first time.

I am generally a calm and relaxed person so I think this helps couples relax and have fun whilst they are around me. When it’s just me and the wedding couple getting some shots, if they are a little camera shy I simply get them to interact with each other forget I am there, and I capture the real connection that happens between them. It’s never a ‘stand, face camera, smile’ approach with me.

So many couples say they don’t like having their photo taken, I always tell them not to worry that it’s going to be an organic approach, nothing too posed or false, this always seems to help. Wine helps!  I think my advice to brides would be choose a wedding photographer, who you not only like their style but that you feel comfortable around. This will help to put you more at ease on the day.

If I could shoot any wedding it would probably be Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s.  He’s a cool stylish guy who I think would have a quirky and interesting wedding.

I am not married but when I do it will be a simple affair on a beach, a hand full of guests, cocktails, Cuban cigars… oh yeah, and my beautiful girlfriend.

I think what sets me apart from other wedding photographers is my artistic style, capturing the day as it unfolds. I capture couples’ personalities not just their likeness. I want every wedding I do to be unique even if I shoot 10 weddings in the same venue I aim to make each wedding different.

I tell couples: your wedding is unique, your photos will be far away from the traditional and cheesy wedding photography you often see out there. My relaxed approach and likability means that my couples have a fun day, are relaxed and have some great unique images.

On the day a wedding couple can expect a friendly professional service and to have everything of importance captured.

I will set up some shots but 90% of the time you won’t know I’m there. I will be in the in the background capturing the day as it happens and capturing the natural moments that occur.
