Hello Abbie, would you like to introduce yourself?
Hi, I’m Abbie and I’m a professional freelance wedding photographer. I have had an interest in photography for as long as I can remember but it was at the age of 17 whilst at college that I began to study photography at a professional level. I finished Cleveland college of Art and Design with two A Levels in photography and a BTEC National Diploma in media moving image. I then studied photography at Honours degree level and graduated from University in 2010. Since then I have worked alongside numerous wedding and family portraiture photography companies and established Abbie Sizer Photography in early 2011.
Why wedding photography specifically?
I love wedding photography. I love the romance, the individual creativity and the magic of each couple’s special day. Weddings allow me to be creative and to try new techniques and ideas. No wedding is the ever the same therefore my job is forever changing, challenging and exciting.
What is your favourite thing about being a wedding photographer?
I get ‘front row seats’ to lots of lovely weddings! In particular I like the wedding morning. Most brides invite me to spend the morning photographing the bridal preparations; I get to see the nervousness, the last minute preparations and the build up of the excitement.
How do you get couples to relax on the day?
My wedding day photography package includes a pre-wedding photo-shoot. This can be an engagement shoot, a family photo-shoot or even a pet photo-shoot! I use this as an opportunity to get to know the couple, find out their likes and dislikes, what style of photographs they like and how they prefer to work. The most important thing and the main aim of the pre-wedding photo-shoot is for the couple to feel comfortable in front of myself and the camera.
Any really memorable weddings that you have captured?
Last year I photographed a wedding which took place in a marquee on a family farm on the North Yorkshire Moors. The wedding was simple and perfect. Everything was lovingly handmade, even the bunting that ran the full length of the huge marquee. The happy couple had provided their guests with wellies ready for the outside dancing under the fairy lights and stars. The evening showcased a live local band and the whole day felt magical.
What sets you apart from other wedding photographers?
I like to spend time getting to know you before your big day. We head out on a separate engagement photo-shoot session, we work together on your ‘essential photo-list’ and we discuss photography likes and dislikes.
Each part of your wedding day is as important as the other, from bridal preparations into the evening celebrations, I will start when you want me start and finish when you want me to finish.
I bring a female photographer’s perspective to your day. You can guarantee that I will not miss those diamond earrings or your Jimmy Choos. I will photograph the extra lace detailing on your bouquet and your something borrowed and blue.
What can a couple who book you expect on the day?
Couples who book with me can expect quality, attention to detail, reliability and a happy, memorable, wedding day photography experience.

Former lawyer and bride to be Julia founded Brides Up North in 2010 with a chip on her shoulder. Frustrated by the poor Northern presence in glossy bridal magazines and online, she decided to do something about it herself. Astounded by the rapid growth of her blog and brand, Julia now manages Brides Up North’s online content alongside their busy wedding exhibition season, industry events and related commissions. And she’s always, always, got a new project on the go…
