Getting Glossy. How To Submit A Real Wedding To The Wedding Blog

April 22nd, 2014 | Julia Braime

This week I’m out and about in the Brides Up North mobile taking part in workshops and master classes in Yorkshire and the North West for some of my favourite wedding photographers, Cat Hepple (today) and Jonny Draper (on Wednesday).  Click here to find out more.  I’ll be hosting group sessions to discuss the role (and power!) of online publishing and social media and how professionals can work with bloggers and the wider media to get their work seen by the people who count – that’s you Brides Up North!

Wish me luck.  Even though the content is totally second nature and even though I’m now pretty used to public speaking, I still get those nervous butterflies, every single time.  I’ll be reporting back soon, but whilst I’m exorcising those butterflies, I thought it might be timely to remind you lovely lot how you can share your own wedding here on our pretty pages once the big day is done and dusted.

Of all the submissions that I receive here at Brides Up North (and it’s a lot) it’s about a 50/50 split as to whether they come direct from the bride and groom or from a member of their wedding team (usually the photographer) who thought that the wedding had that extra sparkle that needed to be shared.  Whilst I love to hear from my gorgeous industry friends, there’s nothing quite like hearing from a reader first hand about why his or her wedding was special.  The excitement just jumps off out of my inbox and I love to hear about each and every single celebration.  It’s my favourite part of the job – no question – and I’d love to hear from you soon.

I accept submissions from brides and grooms, photographers, planners and other wedding vendors, and as well as weddings, I also love to see engagement session photographs, couples shoots, trash the dress, cherish the dress and styled session photographs. I accept wedding submissions of all themes, sizes, religions and gay weddings.

From intimate do-it-yourself-dos with a difference to big budget blow outs, I believe that every wedding is special. I want to share in your day and help to inspire tens of thousands of other brides to be across the North of the UK and the wider web. Click here to see some of the most recent beauties on the blog.

All you have to do is email julia@bridesupnorth.co.uk to make your submission, and it takes about five minutes.  Please stick to the guidelines, it’s easier for us both!

Your initial contact email should include:

- Your name and email address

- Your Real Wedding venue and date

- A brief description of your Real Wedding including general theme, colour scheme and any other special details

- 4 to 5 varied images from your Real Wedding

- Confirmation that your Real Wedding has not been submitted to any other blogs/ websites/ magazines (with the exception of the photographer’s own blog)

When submitting engagement photographs, trash the dress, cherish the dress and other styled sessions, please follow the submissions format as above substituting the relevant details as appropriate.

Whilst I do accept submissions from photographers and other vendors if you are not the bride or groom you will need to seek their permission before making your Real Wedding submission.

Should Brides Up North wish to review your submission further I will require:

- 40 to 50 high quality varied photographs, mostly in colour and without watermarks, at 580 pixels across or larger, 72dpi, to include stylish details of your Real Wedding (your photographer will be able to assist with this)

- I accept submissions as a ZIP file or via Dropbox

- Completion of the Real Bride Questionnaire which will be provided

- Details of your photographer and any other key suppliers

Whilst Brides Up North will carefully review each and every Real Wedding submission that reaches the second stage, it is with regret that I am unable to feature every Real Wedding that I receive. Whilst every celebration is beautiful, I recognise that my readers require a variety of quality editorial content.

I always try to respond to all Real Weddings submissions promptly – and reply I shall – but if you do not hear from me within 5 working days of making your submission, please feel free to submit your Real Wedding elsewhere.

I can’t wait to hear from you! I genuinely love receiving your submissions, so keep them coming!

Former lawyer and bride to be Julia founded Brides Up North in 2010 with a chip on her shoulder. Frustrated by the poor Northern presence in glossy bridal magazines and online, she decided to do something about it herself. Astounded by the rapid growth of her blog and brand, Julia now manages Brides Up North’s online content alongside their busy wedding exhibition season, industry events and related commissions. And she’s always, always, got a new project on the go…
