This afternoon we’re introducing you to a new Sponsor of ours that offers the most important keepsakes from a wedding day – photography and videography.
That’s right, the fabulously talented team at Manchester-based Squashed Apple can capture the real essence and emotion of a couple’s big day both in images and footage, providing memories that last a lifetime and with the power to transport brides and grooms back to that very moment in time.
If this sounds right up your street you might be interested to know that Squashed Apple will throw in £1,300 worth of albums and presentation for free for every Brides Up North reader that books their full day photography and full wedding film packages.
Now to tell us more about their style of shooting, we’ll hand over the blog to one of the Squashed Apple team. Take it away Carlo…
Tell us a little about your background ?
carlo says: I have been in this industry for around nine years and fell into photography by accident really. A friend needed a hand on a wedding and simply passed me a camera, well that was it – I was sold – and filming was a natural progression. I wanted to create a brand, which was not only affordable but offered fantastic value for money. I’m a believer that every couple should have access to our services and it’s this customer focus that has seen us sustain more than 100 weddings for the last seven consecutive years.
What attracted you to the wedding industry specifically?
I love weddings, in fact if I wasn’t doing this I would be a wedding planner. It’s an amazing life event that has everything; they are fun, sad, joyful and emotional. I find there is so much going on in a wedding day that can make you an amazing creator.
And what is it about your job that you love?
Well apart from being your own boss, it gives you the freedom to create, plus tonnes of family time.
How would you describe your style of wedding photography/videography?
Squashed Apple brings collectively everything to the table. We’ve never had a set style, but I believe it’s important to be able to adapt and present something that suits the couple. I believe it’s important to engage with a brides of all ages, therefore I don’t really believe in styled shoots or using models. I want to keep it real. We can have just as much fun with a bride approaching 60-years-old as a bride in her twenties. Our oldest bride last year was 72 – so cute!
What do brides and grooms love about your approach, service and images/videos?
Lots of lovely feedback and comments from our clients can be found here. One of our most recent testimonials read:
“Myself and Phil would like to thank Carlo, Rach, Ross and Redgie for all their hard work and support in the run up to our wedding and for taking the most beautiful pictures of our wedding day. From start to finish we were made to feel at ease, the professional service that was provided was next to none.”
“We are so glad that we chose Squashed Apple to capture our special day. Not only do we have the memories we made in our hearts but we also have them on the magical pictures that you took that we will be able to share with our family and friends who were unable to attend due to living on the other side of the world. I definitely relived our special day complete with goosebumps through our pictures, once again thank you so much.”

How do you help camera-shy couples to relax in front of the lens?
This is typically 98% of our clients, ”don’t look at the lens and ignore us” usually works. I have a long list of picture and filming ice breakers that removes this worry in minutes – it’s a trade secret though I’m afraid.
Why would you encourage couples to have a wedding video in addition to images?
I’m sure you’ve heard it all before, but it really is one of couples’ biggest regrets. If you don’t believe me just post the topic on any wedding forum and you’ll see.
One client said something that always remains with me when speaking about videography, they said our film projected them right back to their wedding day – and that’s the real beauty of a wedding video, you can be instantly transported back to the day. You can view that couple’s mini trailer here.
Tell us a little about the team that you work with…
We have a great team here at SA: photographers, videographers, lighting assistants, editors, a social media team, right through to admin staff. Each has a massive part to play and they are all totally irreplaceable.
Where are you located and what areas of the country do you cover?
We are Manchester based, but would travel anywhere. Just tell us how great your wedding is gonna be.
Are you married? If not, what kind of wedding do you think you would go for?
Not married no, but I have a wonderful partner and three wonderful children, including twins. If I decided to get married, it would be certainly one I could never afford!
What do you think are the most important elements for couples to bear in mind when deciding on a wedding photographer/videographer to capture their day?
Firstly, both photography and video is really the only item you can take away from your wedding day and relive, there are so many elements and factors that need to be taken into account. One huge factor is couples get their timeline completely wrong. We spend hours, providing couples with all the information that will benefit their final product. Secondly, we believe that couples receive better results when all provided form the same supplier.
What can couples who book you expect on the day?
From the word go, this is going to be a whirlwind. We can be discussing this two years in advance, every week, every month! By the time the wedding comes around we are going to unleash whole lot of passion and create something incredible.
What is included in your photography/videography package and is there a special package to include both?
Our full day photography holds no limitations, whatever we can take in image form from your wedding we will present to you. Anyone who books photography always gets a near half price reduction on filming.
Can you give us an idea on price and can you do a discount for Brides Up North readers?
Here we are an open book. Most popular is full day photography at just £995 and wedding filming at just £1,795.
For every Brides Up North reader that books full day photography and a full wedding film, we will throw in £1,300 worth of albums and presentation on top. That’s a large main album, two parents’ albums and six mini books, as well as your own online wedding channel, the complete cinema viewing to any media device.

Former lawyer and bride to be Julia founded Brides Up North in 2010 with a chip on her shoulder. Frustrated by the poor Northern presence in glossy bridal magazines and online, she decided to do something about it herself. Astounded by the rapid growth of her blog and brand, Julia now manages Brides Up North’s online content alongside their busy wedding exhibition season, industry events and related commissions. And she’s always, always, got a new project on the go…
