our love story: fiona & stuart

When we saw these gorgeous engagement shoot images of Fiona and Stuart walking around Loch Ard hand-in-hand and sheltering from the rain under an umbrella, we just knew we had to feature them on the blog.

The loch provides a stunning backdrop to this beautiful pair, and the natural woodland tones are bang on trend – Pantone’s colour of the year for 2017 is greenery, after all! It also provided a number of unusual props – check out the photographers’ striking use of a fern to create a completely unique picture of the couple.

Fiona tells us about how their relationship first blossomed, their plans for the wedding day and beyond!

fiona says: We first met at a wedding in Northern Ireland in 2012. We lived at opposite ends of Scotland at that point, so we used to meet up in Aberdeen for our dates and time together.

For our very first date, we went for a walk and out for lunch, which then turned into dinner, before getting the train home. It wasn’t true love from the start – being so far apart probably made us both quite cautious.

That said, I knew that Stuart was ‘the one’ after a few months of dating and getting to know each other. By that point we were living in London and Edinburgh and had spent lots of weekends travelling between cities.

We got engaged at Loch Ard. We went for a walk around the loch until we reached a surprise picnic. Stuart’s friends had helped set it up with candles, prosecco, strawberries – the works! They then popped out from behind a tree after I’d said yes and drove us to Callander to a beautiful hotel. I wasn’t expecting it at all; it was a huge surprise.

Our wedding will take place at my home church in Edinburgh, with a reception at Broxmouth Park, Dunbar.

Stuart’s best quality is that he can make me laugh; I’m more relaxed with him than anyone else. He’s kind and caring and so thoughtful towards other people.

Stuart says that my qualities are that I’m beautiful, loving, intelligent and that I inspire him to be the best that he can be – awww!

Our biggest hope for our marriage is simple: that we have lots of happy times as a family as we grow old together. Our Love Story - Fiona and Stuart (c) Crofts & Kowalczyk Photography (5)

We decided to have an engagement shoot because we’re both quite camera shy and were nervous about wedding photographs. We thought it would be good to have a trial run.

For the shoot, we went back to Loch Ard where we got engaged. It’s such a beautiful place and seemed the natural choice.

And, surprisingly, we found it rather fun! Sylwia and Simon of Cro+Kow Photography, are such nice people; very relaxing and fun to be around. They made it much more enjoyable than we expected and it‘s definitely made us much more relaxed about the wedding day shoot. We love the photos and have framed a few for our house already!

about the author

Laura McDonagh
Laura is a true Northophile: she married Adam in Durham in 2011 accompanied by 200 Northumbrian lamb shanks and a Mackem 1950s tribute band who did a rockabilly cover version of Celine Dion's My Heart Will Go On. They honeymooned in Northumberland in a 1972 MG convertible, went surfing in Alnmouth and made it to the Edinburgh Fringe (let's ignore the fact that it rained all week). Her big mantra is 'no regrets'...but if she could travel back in time and wear a wedding dress with a Peter Pan collar and pockets, she'd pretty much die happy.
