It’s holiday season here on the blog, and as the editorial team take a short break, we’ll be leaving you with a reduced blogging schedule so that you still get your daily dose of wedding lovely. Usual service will recommence on Monday 3rd July 2017 but in the meantime watch out for recaps of some of our favourite Real Weddings from the first half of the year so far.
Drop in every day for the very prettiest, most unique wedding inspiration and – if you are a Brides Up North bride – to see if your real wedding was one of our top picks.
Prepare for take-off as we’re leaving the north of the UK behind today and jetting off to Lake Como in Italy to relive the utterly gorgeous big day of Cheshire-couple, Emma and Glen.
Everything about this wedding says style, class and romance; from the insanely beautiful location to the wedding party’s stunning attire and the lavish speed-boat transport.
It’s all be captured perfectly by Ally M Photography, and we have to say that Emma and Glen work the camera like pure pros!

We got engaged during a surprise trip to Venice in October 2015, and the proposal was as romantic as it gets. Glen got down on one knee on a gondola boat in Venice through the inner canals of the city with a photographer, videographer and finished with a pre-arranged candlelight dinner and my favourite white roses. We specifically selected the 26th July 2016, to get married as it’s an extra special day for the family. It was my mum’s birthday and we wanted to include her in the day as much as we could. Unfortunately, she passed away five years ago, but we know she was there in spirit on the day.
After the proposal, we fell in love with Italy and so chose a venue on the beautiful Lake Como to hold the wedding at. Our venue, Relais Villa Vittoria, was an Italian villa on the edge of the lake overlooking the mountains. We hired the whole villa and had close friends and family stay there with us for four days. The weather was so beautiful on the day!
We wanted a modern, contemporary wedding. We kept the wedding classy with a James Bond twist – Glen arrived by speed boat but would have chosen to sky dive if he could have! At 11pm a yacht picked the wedding party up and we partied on the lake until the early hours.
Our colour scheme was made up of natural whites, light blues and silvers. I love white roses and as Glen included them in his proposal to me, they have an extra special meaning and so had to be included in the wedding.
For my wedding dress, I wanted something that resembled a glamourous evening gown but that wasn’t too heavy with it being so hot. I still wanted something that was magical though so I made sure it had a long train. I chose an off white, Pronovias 2017 collection dress.
Glen meanwhile, had his suit made by a company called Signature Bespoke, whose suits are handmade in Italy.
My lovely bridesmaids wore dresses from Coast.
Ally M Photography was our chosen photographer for the wedding. Ally and his fiancée Lucy, were just brilliant and captured the perfect moments!
For by bouquet I had an all-white, tear-drop design made up with Orchids (my mum’s favourite), Convallaria Lily’s and white Roses as they are associated with love and passion.
Flower-wise, we also had a large white rose arch overlooking the lake for our ceremony. Our Italian wedding planner Alessia Santa of White Emotion, arranged our flowers with a local supplier. We would highly recommend Alessia to other couples planning to marry in Italy.
As wedding favours, we gave out white candles in a personalised box with a venetian mask logo to symbolise the engagement in Venice.
Our wedding cake was a white, three-tier design with natural real white Roses falling from each tier.
For the wedding breakfast, we enjoyed a four-course meal of Parmigiano Reggiano soufflé with asparagus cream, sun-dried tomatoes and ricotta flakes; risotto with prawns and lime; beef filet with vegetable pie and then a dessert buffet to finish.
As our entertainment, we had a DJ to play out on the terrace overlooking the lake who stayed with us until the early hours of the morning. As mentioned, at 11pm we had a yacht to take the wedding party out onto the lake where the party continued.
We loved everything about the wedding and our chosen venue. It was just beautiful, the villa had so much character, beautiful views, stunning modern rooms and beautiful food. Breakfast served outside in the open conservatory overlooking lake was a highlight!
Overall, I’d say my favourite part of the day was the moment Glen and I touched hands at the end of the aisle. All nerves went!
For our honeymoon, we spent one week in Santorini and one week in Mykonos, Greece. It was a magical two weeks. We initially went to Mykanos as this was known as the lively destination and we wanted to celebrate! We dined at Buddha Bar, Uno Con Carne, Interni and Ling Ling. Then we travelled by boat to Santorini, it was a magical, romantic island.
My top tip to other Brides Up North would be – enjoy the day and take moments away from your guests to take in the day with your partner as it all goes so quick!
