We all want to feel at our most beautiful on our wedding day, with preparations such as hair trials, body scrubs, tanning, facials and teeth whitening all under way weeks, and even months in advance. But, essentially, a lot of the beauty element of a wedding comes down to choosing the most flattering makeup palette.

Makeup, as we all know, can enhance our features for the better and, on the flipside, banish a swathe of skin problems, too. Whether it’s making our eyes pop Bambi-style, accentuating our pout or emphasising our cheek bones – there’s a product and a beauty hack out there that’ll be sure to transform any dream bridal look into a reality.

Looking to the bridal runways and the world of Pinterest for inspiration, it’s all about simple, natural beauty this season, dominated by gleaming complexions, sweet pastel hues and subtle accents of shimmer. Here are five of our favourites to get you started…

berry lips

Chances are, you’ll be wearing a classic shade of ivory, champagne or crisp white for your wedding gown, so why don’t you switch up your bridal look with a contrasting makeup palette? There’s no better way to make a statement than with a bold lip and this season it’s all about the stained berry tones (it’s no surprise that Pinterest searches for this look are up more than 70%). A matte lippy is our top choice, as this will stay put for longer and remain smudge-proof – a prerequisite for any bride on her big day!

metallic liner

This might seem a little ‘out there’ for your wedding day, but trust us, a metallic liner – as seen on the catwalk at Marchesa – will be sure to add a touch of sparkle and definition to your eyes. Apply a thin stroke of liner along your lower lash line in a silvery blue or rose gold and combine this with a sheer, nude shadow blended into the sockets of the eyelid for an understated yet glamorous finish.

pearly nails

We’re lusting after pretty pearls, inspired by the beautiful nails on show at Lela Rose and Manish Arora. The classic French manicure is so passe – nail art is where it’s at these days and adorning your nails with flecks of delicate white pearls is a must-have for the bride seeking stylish, modern accents to her bridal beauty look.

pink eyes

The runways have been awash with the millennial pink beauty trend, with everyone from Sachin & Babi to Marchesa sporting this gorgeously pretty look. This dusty-rose-come-mauve hue is ultra flattering – think of it as a subtle twist to the traditional barely there, neutral palette. What we love about this tone is that you can create a softly blended eye for an ethereal, romantic look or build up the colour for a more intense and poised take on the classic smoky eye.

dewy skin

Dewy skin is still the dreamy complexion of choice for brides on and off the catwalk, led most recently by the likes of Oscar de la Renta and Monique Lhuillier. This fresh-faced look gives skin a glowing, radiant finish – surely every bride’s skincare goals for her big day? For ultimate illumination, ask your makeup artist about strobing – the skillful application of products like highlighters to add luminosity to parts of the face where light would naturally hit, such as the cheekbones, bridge of the nose and Cupid’s bow.
