lasting memories: say hello to in love wedding films

Rachel Hirst

Briars Hall Wedding - Laura & Phil

We’re delighted to be catching up with another of our fabulous Sponsors this afternoon, today it being the turn of videographer Paul of In Love Wedding Films, to take to the blog hot seat!

While the vast majority of couples instantly add ‘photographer’ to their wedding supplier list, sometimes a ‘videographer’ is overlooked despite their offering lasting far beyond the big day. When captured by a professional, a wedding film allows you to see changing expressions and to hear meaningful voices, providing virtual memories that last a lifetime.

Watching some of Paul’s videos it’s clear to see he has the gift of capturing the true emotions of the day – to the point where a father seeing his daughter in her wedding dress for the first time actually had us reaching for the tissues!

So, let’s hear from the man himself and let you feast your eyes on his fine work…

When did you first start filming weddings and how did you get into it?

paul says:

I’ve always had a love for filmmaking and it was when making some short films with friends in 2012 that got me back into the wedding scene. I’d previously (many years ago) done some wedding filming and enjoyed it but then my career took a different path. It wasn’t until I started making those short films again that realised I wasn’t doing what I loved.

How would you describe your style videography and how does it set you apart?

It is a mix of creative and documentary. I use smaller cameras, mostly handheld, so what I film has a more unique look about it. It also allows me to be very discreet on the day.

What is it that you love most about your job?

Meeting different couples. Being a part of one of the best days of their lives. Oh and, getting told they cried when watching the film!

In your opinion what are the most important things for a couple to consider when deciding which videographer to book for their wedding?

Finding a style of videographer they like. There are lots of differing styles and specifically lots of different types of film delivered after (from short five-minute films to those that are hours long – and everything in between!) so make sure you find what you want, and most importantly, watch examples of the final film, not just the three- to four-minute highlights.

Why would you encourage couples to have their wedding day filmed?

Simply put, you have two ways to remember your wedding day afterwards; photos and video. Both are different. Do you want to hear your vows, see the first kiss, laugh at those jokes in the speeches again? Then, a wedding film should be one of the most important things you book for your day.

What is the feedback like from your couples? What do they say about the way you work and the films you produce?

It’s great! They always mention how they didn’t notice our presence on the day, which is exactly what we want, but that they’re amazed after at what has been captured and edited together. Take a look at some of our Facebook reviews.

Do you have a favourite part of the wedding day to capture?

The ‘couple moments’. So, time alone with the couple to capture some real romantic moments for the film. These moments are very important to the way I create my films.

What area do you cover and is there somewhere in particular that you would love to shoot a wedding that you’ve not yet had the opportunity to do?

I generally cover the North West, but I’d go anywhere in the UK. I love Edinburgh, so I’d love to do a wedding there – or Italy!

Do you work alone or as part of a team?

I run the business alone but I normally work with a second person on the day.

What can couples who book you expect?

A personal service and good communication. I send all my couples a monthly newsletter with updates, my latest films for inspiration, hints and tips for their day, where I’m up to with my edits etc.

What is included in your videography package?

Filming from bridal prep to the first dance, a highlights film, short form wedding film (12-15 minutes) and drone footage (licensed). My couples can also upgrade to a longer film if they want as I know some couples still want this. They get this all on USB and via an online streaming platform.

Can you give us an idea of price?

Prices range from £1,500 to £2,000, depending on exactly what they book.
