Time for some feel-good spring wedding inspiration to inject some sunshine into this dreary grey February – are you ready? Because we definitely are!

The lovely Sarah and Phil were married last May at the Worsley Park Marriot Hotel, Manchester. After reading about Phil’s uber-romantic proposal speech we expected big things and, by golly, we got them – roses galore, a Rolls Royce fit for a princess and a ruched satin fishtail dress of dreaminess. Romance in spades, readers.

We love the personalised cocktail ideas (Blushing Bride, anyone?) and the personalised CD favours for their guests, plus those images of this gorgeous pair embracing feel like we’re sneaking a peek at a completely intimate moment – in a good way!

Diary Date: If Sarah and Phil’s choice of venue has captured your attention then be sure to join us for our ‘Love Parade’ Valentine’s Wedding Show at Worsley Park Marriott Hotel, this Sunday 18th February, 11am to 2pm, FREE ENTRY. This fabulous event will give you the opportunity to view this splendid venue for yourselves while meeting a fine selection of the area’s top wedding suppliers. Pre-register here to attend. sarah says

: We got engaged on Christmas Day morning in 2014. Phil and I were sitting in the front room in our PJs. We‘d opened all of our gifts – or so I thought. Phil asked me to close my eyes as he had another present for me which was a surprise. He went on to say that I’d changed his life and he couldn’t live without me, hence he’d got me another gift. He then told me to open my eyes and there he was with the ring box open! He asked me to marry him and I obviously said yes – and I couldn’t stop crying!

Our wedding was set for 26th May 2017. Phil had always wanted to get married in May; it’s his favourite month because he seems to think the weather is perfect!  I could see benefits to getting married in all seasons so I was easily persuaded.

Our venue was Worsley Park Marriott for both the ceremony and the reception. We used Brides Up North to research venues initially and attended a few wedding fairs – when we came to Worsley we knew instantly that we would get married there. We even loved the experience of driving up to the entrance – it just felt right for us. Plus, we live locally, know the area well and felt it would also be great for guests travelling more of a distance.

Our theme for the wedding was music. Both Phil and I absolutely love music and our taste is so similar, yet very eclectic. We named each table after a meaningful song title and we also booked a band called Under the Covers, who were amazing and performed all of our favourite music.

Our colour scheme was coral; it’s my favourite colour because it’s so bright and cheerful and perfect for a spring/summer wedding.

I wore an ivory fishtail dress from Bliss Bridal in Bolton. I saw it in the window and knew straight away it was ‘the one’. I asked to try it on and cried before I’d even looked in the mirror! It was classic but not like any other dress I’d seen before.

Phil wore a navy three-piece suit from Swarbricks Suit Hire with a scoop neck waistcoat and brown brogues. He looked amazing – he loves a good suit.

The groomsmen and our dads wore matching navy waistcoats and trousers from Swarbricks, and the same matching brogues.

I ordered my bridesmaids’ dresses from a website called Queenie. I’d chosen six maids and it was getting so expensive, so I ordered from Queenie as I’d heard from a friend that the more dresses you ordered the bigger the discount. The dresses were made to measure and absolutely perfect.

We hired a car from Rollers Wedding Car Hire, which did two trips from my mum’s house to the venue, first for the bridesmaids’ and then for me and my dad.

Our photographer was Cathy Brown. We would recommend her highly –  she was perfect, and our pictures are unbelievable. We can’t thank her enough.

I carried a bouquet with a mixture of roses and hydrangeas – my favourite flowers. I created all of the bouquets and buttonholes myself. I bought silk flowers from Country Baskets and my mum and I spent a night flower-arranging with a glass of wine.

The flowers for our venue were provided by Zen Venue Dressers who did a wonderful job of our venue dressing.

For favours, we did a mix CD for each guests. We created a playlist of songs from our wedding and songs that mean something to us as a couple and presented them in a personalised CD sleeve.

Phil’s sister Vicky treated us to our cake and had it was made by Leila’s Cakes. It was absolutely amazing and was a huge surprise for me and Phil. It was made up of three tiers: a Victoria sponge (Phil’s favourite), chocolate (my favourite) and the top tier was prosecco buttercream and strawberry jam. Delicious!

For the wedding breakfast we had smoked chicken salad for starter, roast sirloin of beef for our main and sticky toffee pudding for dessert.  For the evening buffet we had carved bacon rolls. We had prosecco as an arrival drink and we also did signature cocktails at the bar. Phil’s was a Cheeky Vimto because his love of Vimto is a running joke with my family – they always make sure they’re stocked up for him at home! My cocktail was called ‘Blushing Bride’, which was really a Kir Royale – I love prosecco!

For the ceremony and wedding breakfast we had Ken Robson the pianist, who was just wonderful. In the evening we had Under the Covers who were fantastic; our guests loved them and we all danced the night away. Stephen Sanders was our toastmaster and he did an excellent job.

The whole day was so special. One particularly special touch, though, was attaching an angel brooch my grandma gave me years ago to my bouquet. It had blue wings and really helped it feel like a part of her was there on the day.

We would most definitely recommend the venue to other couples. Every part of our day was just perfect, and we can’t thank the team on the day enough for making sure everything ran so smoothly.

A highlight of the wedding had to be the evening of the wedding when the band were playing – I just didn’t want to leave the dancefloor and had such a good time. Also, between the wedding breakfast and the evening reception everyone sat outside enjoying the glorious weather and it was so lovely to be able to relax and mingle. I could tell that all of our family and friends were having the best time and that’s exactly what we wanted.

We went to Florida on our honeymoon and it was fantastic.  We stayed at the Hard Rock Hotel at Universal Studios. It was a great idea to travel straight after the wedding as neither of us had any worries at all – we could completely relax and have a good time with no planning to do. We went to the parks and also went to Clear Water Beach. We swam with dolphins at Discovery Cove, which is something I’ve always wanted to do, so I’ve ticked that off my bucket list.

My top tip for other Brides Up North would be – don’t stress about the little things; as long as there is good food, drink, dancing and good company you will have the best day regardless.
