With the snowy weather finally clearing we can set our sights on the warmer seasons to come, and an abundance of gorgeous spring & summer weddings.
The utterly gorgeous August wedding that we’re sharing on the blog today is certainly whetting or appetite, with blue skies, a stunning strappy gown and delicate detailing.
Real bride Chloe, is a loyal Brides Up North reader *waves* and we’re thrilled that our daily inspiration helped to shape her and Simon’s big day. Keen on all things “glamorous and girly”, Chloe picked a soft, pretty colour scheme of gold and blush pink for their romantic celebrations at the very grand Beamish Hall.
With beautiful, high-impact flower centrepieces to echo the tall ceilings of the hall, festoon lighting swagging from the ceiling, fairy lights climbing the pillars between the tables and a curtain of twinkling lights behind the top table – not to mention an elegant string quartet – Chloe and Simon went all out with sophisticated glamour and achieved the look to a tee.

chloe says: Simon and I got engaged on 4th October 2015, in Central Park, New York. He took me by complete surprise a couple of days into our trip when he popped the question by the boating lake.
We got married on Saturday 26th August 2017. We chose this date as we wanted a summer wedding. I had envisioned everyone enjoying the beautiful grounds of Beamish Hall in the sunshine and that is what we got. We married at Beamish Hall, County Durham, with the ceremony held in the Shafto Hall, and the reception in the Winter Gardens. I immediately fell in love with the Winter Gardens the first time we went to have a look around the venue – it was just everything we wanted and more. I would recommend Beamish Hall to anyone who is looking for a luxurious wedding. The staff are amazing, the service was second to none all day and everything went perfectly.
For our theme, we chose to go for a modern, romantic-styled wedding. I love anything glamorous and girly. I chose blush pink and gold for our colour scheme, as it went with our theme and I think the colours look so beautiful together. While I was planning our wedding I read (and still do!) the Brides Up North real weddings, as I love reading about how other people style their weddings and what elements they have added in their day to make it unique.
When it came to my dress, I first saw it on an Instagram image of a wedding dress store and I told my mum that was the dress I wanted. Designed by Anna Sorrano, it was only the second dress I tried on and, as soon as I looked in the mirror, I knew it was the dress I wanted to walk down the aisle in – fishtail in style with a low back and lace strap detailing. I bought it from Wed2b in Gateshead. My shoes were Ted Baker.
Simon wanted to wear a navy suit and wanted all of his groomsmen to wear the same, as well as my father and his. We bought each suit from Next. Simon wore a gold tie and the rest wore blush pink.
I wanted my bridesmaids to feel comfortable in their dresses and also for each one to feel as though they suited it. That’s why we went for multi-way dresses, so they could wear it in whichever style they wanted to and they still all matched. We bought the bridesmaid dresses in Debenhams. Two of them wore a champagne gold dress and one a blush pink dress. Our flower girl wore a dress by John Rocha, which was blush pink on the bottom and gold on the top.
Our photographer was Chris Parkinson from Beneath The Pines. I would definitely recommend Chris to anyone looking for a photographer. From having a meeting with him a few weeks before the wedding to the wedding day, Chris made us feel so relaxed and it felt so natural having him around. A few of our friends had used Chris to photograph their weddings and, after seeing his work and meeting him, we knew we wanted him to capture our special day.
For my flowers, I chose to have a loose hand-tied bouquet, which included bombastic spray roses, Keira garden roses, astilbe stocks and wax flowers with soft ruscus. My grandma’s wedding ring was tied around the bouquet ribbon as my ‘something old’. My bridesmaids carried smaller versions of my bouquet and all the flowers were provided by Fleur Couture. We also all chose to wear fresh flowers in our hair.
My hair and make-up was done by the amazing Rose and Hyde, who also did all of the bridesmaids and mother-of-the-bride – we can’t recommend them enough.
On the tables, I chose to have tall vases as centrepieces with large flower balls on top. The Winter Gardens room at Beamish Hall is so grand and the ceiling so high, so tall centrepieces were an essential for me. Fleur Couture also provided these.
I made a large chalkboard sign using a gold frame as our ‘welcome’ sign, which I decorated with blush pink artificial flowers to fit into the theme. I also made all of the table numbers using gold frames and the same chalkboard style. Chief Chalker provided the table plan.
To dress the room, we chose to have festoon lighting draping from the ceiling and the pillars dressed with fairy lights and voile. We also had a curtain of fairy lights behind the top table to make it look even prettier.
For the cake, we chose a three-tiered, semi-naked wedding cake designed and made by Lyn at Bohemian Bakehouse. We opted for a dessert table, which included cheesecake jars, rocky road, shortbread hearts and caramel shortcake. Both Simon and I have a sweet tooth, so we had to have a dessert table! Lyn styled the whole table for us and even provided us with a gold confetti cannon for our cake-cutting photo.
For the wedding breakfast, we chose to have a three-course meal, which included paté, chicken dinner and cheesecake, which was all amazing.
For the music, we had a string quartet called Aurora Strings to play before the ceremony and as I walked down the aisle. They then moved outside for the drinks reception. We also chose to have a singer and DJ for the evening reception.
One of my favourite parts of the day was the moment before Simon and I were announced into the Winter Gardens, before we sat down for our wedding breakfast. It was the first time we were alone since the ceremony and I will never forget how special that moment was together.
For our honeymoon, Simon and I love to go to places we have never been before, so we chose Singapore and Bali for our honeymoon. We stayed in Singapore for three nights and then went on to Ubud, Bali for four nights and spent our final four nights in Seminyak. Singapore was out of this world and Bali was the ultimate honeymoon destination, which included our own private villa with a pool, infinity pools and rose petal baths!
My top tip for other Brides Up North is to enjoy the process of planning and don’t sweat the small stuff. Your wedding day will be the most perfect day of your life where you are surrounded by everyone who loves you – nothing can prepare you for the amount of love you feel. It is truly amazing.
