Keen to steer clear of fuss, featured bride Melisa shows us how to pull off an elegant and modern wedding to a tee in our first post of the week.
Tying the knot to beau Danny back in July, Melisa’s styling centred around dreamy all-white blooms with accents of gold and blush in the detailing and attire to bring a romantic edge to the proceedings.
Their gorgeous choice of venue provides a chic and contemporary backdrop, while both Melisa and Danny take style and sophistication to the next level with their enviable threads – a stunning fitted fishtail dress for her and dapper three-piece for him.
So let’s not delay in the pretty anymore, scroll right this way…

melisa says: We got engaged at home on Christmas Day in 2015. Danny had a book made of the story of our relationship and on the last page of the story it asked me to marry him.
We set the date for 6th July 2018, as we really wanted a summer wedding.
Mitton Hall in Clitheroe was our choice of venue for both the ceremony and reception. We fell in love with the it on our first visit – the venue was exactly what we were looking for with its modern/traditional décor and the staff were amazing every step of the way.
I wanted the theme of the wedding to be very elegant with all white flowers, lots of candles and gold and blush touches on the cake, table plan and bridesmaid dresses.
My dress was a fishtail design by Pronovias from Bliss Bridal Bolton. I originally didn’t like the dress on the hanger and was persuaded to try it on by my sister. I instantly fell in love with it, other dresses I tried on after that just didn’t come close.
Danny wore a three-piece tailored suit in dark blue with a grey chequered waistcoat from Whitfield & Ward. The groomsmen’s suits were also from Whitfield & Ward.
My bridesmaids wore blush fishtail dresses from Quiz and the flower girl’s dress was from Monsoon.
Our day was captured by Emma Curran Photography, who we would absolutely recommend to other brides and grooms. She was there with us every step of the way; from before the wedding to the day and after. Emma made everyone feel so relaxed and comfortable, taking the photos just didn’t feel like a chore at all and the photos speak for themselves! We really couldn’t thank her enough for the amazing photos we have to keep as treasured memories.
I carried a bouquet of white roses, hydrangea and peonies put together by florist Jemma Holmes.
The venue was also decorated by Jemma Holmes using large white roses and white hydrangeas in flute vases and smaller versions in mixed vases. We also had cylinder glass candle holders with white candles inside placed down the aisle.
As favours we gave guests personalised boxes with our names and wedding date on which contained chocolates.
Our wedding cake was a four-tier white design with white flowers down the middle and gold foil detailing, made by Piece of Cake by Halima.
For the wedding breakfast we gave our guests three options for each course including cod, roast beef and cheese souffle. We chose pink prosecco for ceremony drinks and Peroni and a mixture of white, red and rose wine for the meal.
As entertainment, we had a wedding host/DJ throughout the day which made the day really fun and interactive. We also had a magician after the ceremony and our friend, who is a singer, performed a few songs for us including our first dance.
As some extra entertainment, we hired a selfie mirror from Make It Stand Out and would definitely recommend them. Dan and Tom were really professional and approachable throughout and our guests loved it, plus we got another album full of guests’ selfies to keep.
After holding our wedding at Mitton Hall, we would certainly recommend it to other couples. It’s a beautiful venue and definitely has the wow factor inside and out, plus the location is lovely. The staff at Mitton Hall were also amazing, very friendly and approachable and nothing was ever a problem. They really looked after us on the day and we had no worries at all as everything was managed perfectly.
Looking back on our day, we loved every minute but if we had to choose a ‘best bit’ it would be the evening once all our evening guests arrived, so we could celebrate with all our nearest and dearest properly.
For our honeymoon, we flew to Vegas for three nights and then hired a car and travelled to Palm Springs, LA, Santa Monica, Santa Barbara, Monterey and San Francisco. It has always been our dream holiday to travel around California.
I know it gets said a lot, but my top tip to other Brides Up North would be to enjoy every second of your day as it’s over in a flash!
