I don’t know what it is, but there seems to be a real buzz of excitement in the air (both on and offline) about this one, and EVERYONE seems to be talking about it.  It could be the quirky and stunning venue, the fact that I haven’t shut up about it for months, that they are chatting about it on the radio, or that we’ve got what I consider to be the very finest selection of exhibitors in the area ready and waiting all under one huge roof.

.

Just don’t miss it. No lie in nor Sunday roast could beat this.  If you are tying the knot in Yorkshire, you need to be at this event.

.

Join Brides Up North and the region’s very finest wedding suppliers in this unique and stunning setting amongst the beautiful vintage trains for York’s most beautiful bridal event this Sunday 21st April 2013.

Well, they do, and it’s high time you paid them a visit – if only to make amends for all my magpie-ish “just trying it on” time spent at their stand on Sunday – at nine months pregnant and with no plans to renew my vows anytime in the near future.  Although come to think of it, do they allow tiaras on the delivery suite?

It’s All Black & White! A Real Wedding In The North West – Rachel & Stuart

July 3rd, 2012 | Julia Braime

.

Before we get going with today’s main event, I have a twinkly little announcement to make!  Brides Up North Featured Supplier Damselle Tiaras are running a competition for one lucky bride to be to win her wedding jewellery.

.
You can choose from one of eleven sets by Polly Edwards and all you need to do is either register on the Damselle Tiaras’ website or alternatively email them at enquiries@damselle-tiaras.com with the words "Polly Edwards Jewellery Competition".  The winner will be chosen at random and announced on Sunday 5th August. Good Luck!

.

Now, on with the show – a beautiful wedding on the Wirral shot entirely in black and white at the request of the bride and groom and sent to me by friend of the wedding blog Matt Bowen Photography and real bride Rachel.  Some things are better in shades of grey… right ladies?

.

Rachel says: We got engaged on 11th September 2010 in Manchester, and married on 18th May 2012 at The Hillbark Hotel on the Wirral.  We chose our venue because it has so much character, we loved it as soon as we stepped in!

It’s really difficult to choose my favourite part of the day.  The ceremony was lovely, the meal was amazing, the speeches were fab, the our covers band and singers were brilliant.

Instead of having a definite theme as such, we just added things into the day that we love! For example instead of table numbers we had our favourite bands (we used the CD covers to identify which table was which and  instead of a huge cake we ordered 200 assorted Krispy Kreme doughnuts.  Wee did have one tier of cake to cut but we thought the doughnuts would go down better.  And they did!

.

At each table we had butterfly pins for the ladies’ favours.  Each one we bought contributed money to Cancer Research.

We honeymooned for four lovely days in Guernsey.  We are going away again later on in the year… either Vegas or somewhere a little less expensive!

My top tip for other Brides Up North would be to try not to worry so much… hand everything over to bridesmaids, best men and the venue on the day – and make sure that you just enjoy it!

The Saturday Sessions: The Glitz & The Glamour

January 21st, 2012 | Julia Braime

.

www.hellofotobooths.co.ukHello !  I hope that you lovelies are having an excellent Saturday afternoon!  Its been work, work, work for this as I prepare for the first of the Brides Up North Wedding Exclusive exhibitions at Allerton Castle, Sunday 12th February 2012.

.

It’s a SELL OUT with nearly 40 exhibitors in attendance, so if you are a Yorkshire bride looking for a beautiful venue or just some inspiration from the crème de la crème of the region’s wedding industry, make sure to pre-register for your VIP Bride To Be Goody Bag by clicking here.

.

Save for my events, meetings and Tweet Ups, the life of a wedding blogger and event organiser is actually a pretty secular one, albeit extremely busy.  Waking up to over 150 emails a day (pretty much minimum) from brides to be, newlyweds, wedding industry contacts and other interested parties as well as arranging fabulous shows for regional brides to be, networking events for the fabulous Northern talent that we have up here, styling bridal shoots, freelance writing … oh and JUST A TEENSY BIT of wedding blogging to do (!)… means that I have a solid marriage to my computer and a raging love affair with my iPad.

.

I have been known to be tied to my screen from 8am until 3am recently, and sometimes it’s just nice to switch it off… and do something glitzy and glamorous instead.  In a dress!  With properly styled hair!  And make up! Whoot!

.

So when two really rather fabulous events occurred in one week, I was sold.  Two return tickets to the smoke sil vous plait!

.

.

Enter The Wedding Ideas Magazine Awards 2012 and The Wedding Industry Awards 2012!

.

.Wedding Ideas Awards   Wedding Industry Awards

Two fabulous events in one fabulous week, c’est moi dahlings! In floor length eggplant with gold accents and multi-coloured vintage Cacharel (notice the tactical switch from white wine to Red Bull!!)

.

Both required the special journey, both supported some fabulously talented members of the Northern wedding industry and both were a huge amount of fun.

.

.

Wedding Ideas Awards

With some very talented wedding industry friends at The Wedding Ideas Awards: Cute Maps, Stems Design, The Whimsical Cake Company, The Social Butterfly and me!

.

First up, The Wedding Ideas Magazine Awards, hosted by a fab little magazine bursting with the best wedding ideas (it’s all in the name!).  This title has been so supportive to my journey as a and freelance writer and I was so happy to go along to support them on their big night, clap for the winners and even take on a few Sambucas!  All in the name of duty, mind!  Good food, good music, good wine, good company and a celebration of fantastic talent in our industry.

.

A mere five days later, at a jam packed Cafe De Paris, it was time for The Wedding Industry Awards.  I was honoured to be asked to be a regional judge for this inaugural event, so awaited the final results with eager anticipation.  After cheering each winner, it was time to catch up with friends old and new… and, thanks to the venue’s proximity to Chinatown, duck out at last orders for a sneaky slap up Chinese to send me back to the laptop with a smile on my face!

Now, on with more lovely.

.

.

Friend of the wedding blog, James P Lester Photography, recently submitted Kelly & Phill’s beautiful Real Wedding in the South of France and I have been dying to share it here.  This Northern couple headed to the wine region to tie the knot this summer in a perfect day full of colour, sunshine, vin et l’amour.  Parfait!

.

.

Brides Up North Wedding Blog - James P Lester Photography

.

.

Over to James:  As a wedding photographer, I love it when I get bookings for really unique weddings; weddings that stick in my mind as one of the highlights of the year. Kelly and Phill’s wedding was just that.

.

.

Brides Up North Wedding Blog - James P Lester Photography

.

.

They were looking to get married in the South of France and headed out into the Bordeaux area in search of venues. After visiting a few, ahead of schedule, they settled on a castle as the place they were to be married but unable to get an early flight back home to Harrogate, they were forced to stay another night in France. Luckily for them, this led them to find the even more stunning Chateau Riguad nestled amongst the vineyards and they immediately swapped their venue.

The plans were set for five days of relaxation with family and friends enjoying food, wine and laughter (and a canoeing session down the Dordogne river). The big day was just as relaxed, with a 4pm ceremony leaving everyone time to have a dip in the open-air pool in the sunshine, enjoying a selection of baguette sandwiches and trips to the open bar whenever the mood took them.

.

The ceremony was set under the tree in the courtyard with Father Stephen, their priest who travelled over from Harrogate as well.

.

The service included moving readings from family and friends and was followed by a beautiful mix of locally sourced canapés and champagne. A talented four man band meandered through the guests with amusing acoustic renditions of popular songs providing fantastic entertainment for the guests whilst I took the happy couple out into the vineyards for a beautifully sunlit portrait session. The only brief I had was ‘we want it to look like France’ – I think the vineyards say it all!
