We adore all the gorgeous weddings that we get to share with you here on Brides Up North, but today’s beauty has us doubly excited as the spectacular backdrop to the celebrations is a North Yorkshire venue that we’ve just added to our collection of Luxury Wedding Shows. Feast your eyes on The Yorkshire Wedding Barn, a beautifully polished rustic gem of a venue set in acres of rolling countryside with stunning ceremony and reception space, plus plentiful accommodation on site. Sound up your street? Then be sure to join us the evening of Thursday 18th October for our Stylish Wedding Show at Yorkshire Wedding Barn, open 6pm to 9pm, FREE ENTRY, when we will be showcasing this incredible venue while also welcoming a fabulous line-up of the area’s very best suppliers to help inspire and achieve your big day visions.
But for now, on with the gorgeous wedding of Rebecca and Joshua who chose Yorkshire Wedding Barn for their Mexican inspired wedding, complete with a glorious pink and orange colour scheme and a Mariachi soundtrack.
The bridesmaids are a vision in sunset-coloured dresses and the bouquets are bold and bright to evoke a taste of Mexico that packs a real punch, not to mention the vibrant flower wall in front of which Rebecca and Joshua exchanged their vows.
Rebecca wanted a ‘Cinderella’ gown and Blue by Enzoani hit the nail on the head, with a frothy, layered skirt and a crystal bodice with a sweetheart neckline (apt, as the bride and groom are childhood sweethearts!) and delicate barely-there straps. Paired with every girls’ dream shoe, the Louboutin, and a softly styled up do, Rebecca is definitely the belle of the ball!
We love the idea of each table at the wedding breakfast representing a year of Rebecca and Joshua’s courtship, complete with photos to illustrate that time in their lives. After more than ten years together, there were plenty of memories to share – and, by the looks of it, the memory bank was well and truly topped up at this joyful and colourful celebration.

rebecca says: We engaged while in Lanzarote – we booked the holiday to celebrate nine years since Josh asked me to be his girlfriend. From first being together in school, we always knew we wanted to get married to each other. After having a long-distance relationship for five years living at different universities (Newcastle and Liverpool), we finally moved in together and went through great stresses renovating our home. I had been hoping for Josh to propose but he still managed to surprise me by getting down on one knee at sunset on a windswept clifftop on the second night of our holiday.
We got married on Friday 17th August 2018. We had always said we wanted to get married in summer 2018 and, as a teacher, I was limited to the summer holidays if we wanted to go straight on honeymoon. We fell in love with the venue as soon as we saw it and knew the compromise of getting married on a Friday instead of a Saturday was totally worth it.
The venue was Yorkshire Wedding Barn, Gilling West. We decided we’d really like a barn wedding, allowing us to bring our own style to the day, and lots of the barns we looked at were, as you can imagine, full of hay bales and hessian décor. However, the Yorkshire Wedding Barn ticked all the boxes, giving us the upmarket luxury we wanted but still providing a blank canvas for us to decorate in our own way. It was everything we ever wanted and a lot of this came down to Olivia, who organised everything perfectly. We would 100% recommend this venue to any couples wanting to have a wedding day that lasts longer than just a day. The onsite accommodation enabled us to have all of our closest friends and family with us the night before our wedding and Olivia helped arrange breakfast for us all the morning after the wedding as well.
In terms of a theme, having a DIY wedding meant we were able to keep everything really personal. We chose a catering company run by a family friend who agreed to do our absolute favourite food – Mexican – in sharing-style platters for our main course. Danny, an usher, suggested continuing the theme by booking a Mariachi band, so I used Alive Network to source an authentic Mexican Mariachi band, Mariachi King, to play us out of the ceremony and during the drinks reception. Having visited Mexico recently, we ran with this theme, incorporating cacti in the centrepieces, Mexican props for our photo booth and having tequila shots after the incredible best man/usher speech.
Colour-wise, we wanted a bright summer wedding, so we had different shades of pink and orange throughout the colour scheme. These are mine and Josh’s favourite colours and we have a lot of these in our house, so we could keep the decorations afterwards.
When choosing my dress, I went to about four dress shops before I found the one. I knew I wanted a ‘Cinderella’ dress and thought it would probably be strapless – definitely no lace. I tried on so many different types of dress just to be sure (even full lace) but when I went to The Harrogate Wedding Lounge they could tell I knew which style I wanted and picked out lots of beautiful princess dresses. My best friend and maid of honour, Fiona, picked out a Blue by Enzoani dress that I had missed as it had straps. My mum later came into the shop and picked out the same dress so I agreed to try it on, trusting their opinions. It was perfect and there were so many tears from my bridal party when they saw it (not to mention my husband when I walked down the aisle!). After ordering my dress I lost quite a lot of weight, but The Harrogate Wedding Lounge did a great job of taking it in two dress sizes so that it fit perfectly on the day.
To accessorise, I had always dreamt of getting married in a pair of Christian Louboutin shoes so I went to Harvey Nichols, Leeds to buy my dream pair in pink glitter, so I can’t wait to wear them again.

Where is Victoria Warehouse located?
freya says: Victoria Warehouse, a completely unique, entirely innovative event space based in Manchester. The venue, located in Trafford is just a short journey from the city centre and very easily accessible via motorway, rail and tram links.
Tell Brides Up North about the venue, what is its history and how has it changed over the years?
Built in the early 1900’s as predominantly a cotton storage facility, our warehouse buildings have stood as a symbol of this city’s industrial strength and innovation for around 100 years and careful renovations have made it a venue to capture the imagination.
What facilities does it have?
A truly unique venue, with exposed walls, stone floors and a rustic feel, the simplicity of the space provides a blank canvas upon which you can design a spectacular setting for your day. The industrial pillars and original brickwork have been lovingly restored to reveal a striking backdrop across two rooms, that is ideal for both traditional and contemporary celebrations.
Is Victoria Warehouse licensed for civil ceremonies, and what rooms are available for the rest of the celebration?
We are licensed to hold civil ceremonies in The Bays and The Cotton Sheds.
The Bays is our versatile event space within the Victoria Warehouse Hotel. It provides a stunning backdrop for weddings, the raw industrial aesthetic is ideal for both contemporary and traditional ceremonies and due to the richly historic nature of our building. The Bays can hold ceremonies for up to 300 guests with dining for up to 250 guests. Evening receptions can increase to 300 guests across both Bay 1 and Bay 2
The Cotton Sheds combines a raw and urban backdrop (a setting inspired by the Industrial Revolution), with the glitz and glamour of your wedding. With exposed walls, stone floors and a rustic feel, the simplicity of the space provides a blank canvas upon which you can design a spectacular setting for your day. The Cotton Sheds can hold ceremonies for up to 1,500 guests with dining for up to 900 guests meaning its the perfect venue for large multi-cultural celebrations.
What makes Victoria Warehouse a special wedding venue and sets you apart from others?

People love the mystery and historical base of the venue, and how much history has been preserved in modern, vintage and classy manner. Of course the nature of the building is quite different to the modern buildings, but that’s what gives us our edge and that pushes people to look beyond just the space given, because you really can and truly transform each room whichever way you want it.

Groom Tom from today’s real wedding feature scored ultimate points for his proposal – going far beyond just getting down on bended knee, he decorated the house and filmed a proposal video to surprise Natalie when she returned home from work, before whisking her off to Belgium for a minibreak. No wonder she thought he was a keeper!
And Tom continued to earn those brownie points by getting fully involved in the wedding planning too, whipping up a clever easel, cake stand, and confetti stand for the big day; the perfect accessories for the beautifully illustrated table plan, naked cake and cute confetti cones, complete with the couple’s initials and wedding date.
A delicate colour scheme of dusky pinks carried through the flowers and décor creating a pretty and romantic setting for the celebrations. We particularly love the effect of the paper spheres and fairy lights hanging from the marquee ceiling, and the elegant table centres.
Stolen kisses under the blossom trees make for a romantic collection of photographs on what, we’re sure, was a wonderful day to remember.

natalie says: We got engaged in our first home together. Tom surprised me on my arrival home from work with a decorated house and a proposal video. It was two days before my birthday and he whisked me off to Bruges for the weekend.
We got married on Saturday 21st April 2018. It was exactly six years that we had been together. Our venue was Middleton Lodge in Richmond, which ticked all of our boxes. We were overwhelmed on our first visit and fell in love with the house and surroundings. It’s a lovely Georgian house that we could have exclusive use of for the weekend and it gave a really relaxed feel to our wedding.
We would absolutely recommend Middleton Lodge as it was a fantastic venue for a weekend of wedding celebrations. From initially visiting on an open day, we were instantly wowed and knew that Middleton Lodge was where we wanted to get married. The wedding team was excellent and no job was too big or too small. On the wedding day, Anna the wedding coordinator put my mind at rest that everything was coming together and asked final questions just to make sure everything was how I would expect it.
We didn’t have a particular theme for our wedding. I wanted to have dusky pink elements and Tom wanted to have an input into the overall look and feel of the wedding. He produced wooden boxes for country flowers, which were located at the front of our venue. He also made an easel, cake stand and our confetti stand.
Tom hired his and his groomsmen’s suits from Antich and Sons.
My bridesmaids wore dresses from Elenor Rose, Huddersfield.
