Today’s wedding is something of a dreamy countryside affair, close to the historic spa town of Ilkley in Yorkshire. And the location plays another key role for our bride and groom, Emily and Tim, as it’s also the overarching theme for their special day – giving the bride’s Canadian family a little taster of her hubby-to-be’s local heritage!
The couple chose their venue, Denton Hall – a Brides Up North Sponsor and Luxury Wedding Fair venue, no less (in fact, this feature is full of our lovely suppliers *waves*) – for both their ceremony and reception, and is often the case – the venue not only looked the part, but it was also conveniently placed for their guests. A little reminder that practicalities also beckon when it comes to those all-important big decisions!
But, getting back to the breathtakingly beautiful backdrop – there’s 2,500 acres of stunning parkland and gorgeous country views to fall head over in heels in love with; all exquisitely captured in the couple’s stunning wedding photography.
Stepping inside the 18th century stately home – crystal chandeliers, ornate fireplaces and a spiral staircase are just a few of the standout features delivering elegant Georgian vibes by the bucket-load.
And we simply must mention the couple’s colour palette – navy blue and pink, two of the bride’s favourite colours. Just look at the oh-so-pretty bouquets, floral arrangements and cheese tower, and you’ll see why this combination works together so beautifully.
There’s lots of other special moments to pore over today, so we’ll hand over the reins to Emily and let her talk us through all the splendorous highlights.

emily says: We got engaged on 13th February 2016, while in Miami, Florida.
It was in our hotel room after a romantic dinner. Tim had hurt his back the day before so was struggling to get down on one knee. I couldn’t figure out what he was doing and kept on telling him, not to move but he was so determined! I was too focused on getting him to stop moving that I didn’t listen to what he was saying. When he took out the ring I was so surprised and had to ask him to repeat his proposal.
We got married on 6th May 2017. We chose this date as it was one of the few available at our venue that year.
We held our ceremony and reception at Denton Hall in Ilkley. We loved the house and wanted the venue to be close by for Tim’s parents, who live in Ilkley. We also wanted my family and friends to be able to stay at the venue as they were all travelling to the wedding from Vancouver, Canada.
Our wedding had a Yorkshire theme because Tim wanted the Canadians to experience his culture! We teamed this with a navy blue and pink colour scheme – two of my favourite colours.
I wore a vintage dress which I fell in love with as soon as I tried it on.

When choosing a venue for the big day there is much more to think about than the room where your ceremony will take place; what about standout areas for your wedding photography, first-class catering and exclusivity to ensure you have the whole place to yourselves during your celebrations? Today’s featured wedding took place at a stunning venue that offers all that (and more!) – The Mansion, in Leeds.
We’re giving you the fabulous opportunity to view this spectacular venue for yourselves when we host our Luxury Wedding Fair at The Mansion on Sunday 25th February, 11am to 2pm, FREE ENTRY. You can find out more and pre-register for the event here.
As so many couples do, today’s brides and groom, Charlotte and Amarvir, fell in love with The Mansion’s idyllic position, nestled within the beautiful Roundhay Park – and its faultless service and elegant style ticked all other boxes!
Picking a theme that would complement both the setting and season, Charlotte chose a pretty pink and cream colour scheme with opulent pops of gold.
We adore her diamanté-embellishment Maggie Sottero gown, which twinkled perfectly on the dancefloor as she and Amarvir enjoyed their first dance, which they had specially choreographed and took professional lessons for, no less!

charlotte says: We got engaged on holiday in Mauritius in August 2016. Amarvir’s proposal was very romantic. He had planned a special dinner at a beautiful restaurant – champagne, rose petals on the table, etc. After our romantic dinner, we went for a walk along the beach and sat on a jetty, dipping our feet into the Indian Ocean under the moon and stars and that is when Amarvir asked me to marry him! It was the most perfect evening.
We got married on 19th August 2017, as we wanted a summer wedding on a Saturday. We chose The Mansion in Roundhay Park, Leeds, as our venue due to the beautiful park surroundings and because we would have exclusive use of the venue on our big day, which was important to us.
We chose a summer theme – lots of pink, gold, rose gold and cream to create a lovely summery floral atmosphere, which fitted the time of year and location of the venue in the park.
Amarvir hired his morning suit from Moss Bros. He wore a black tail coat with grey striped suit trousers, a light pink cravat and a dove grey double-breasted waistcoat and held a grey top hat for our photos. For the evening reception, Amarvir changed into a white tux jacket, black tux trousers, black bow tie and his black and white dancing shoes!
My bridesmaids wore a full-length, light pink dress with lace detail on the top half, which I bought online from Stacees and which complemented my wedding dress and the overall theme.
The groomsmen wore morning suits like Amarvir, also hired from Moss Bros, and they had gold cravats.

Today the beautiful building provides a venue that is brimming with timeless elegance and situated in a luxurious rural setting. Being nestled in 2,500 acres with stunning views across to the Ilkley moor, we really are spoilt with some of the best views in Yorkshire. The building has been beautifully restored to mirror its original style and retain its unique character. Tell us about the ceremony and reception areas at Denton Hall…
With three stunning rooms within the hall licensed for civil ceremonies and the local church just a stone’s throw away in the village of Denton, getting married here could not be easier. Typically, we use the front terrace of the Hall, which has sweeping views across to the Ilkley moor for your drinks reception – as well as our newly refurbished reception area and bar, before moving through into the elegant dining room. After dinner, its back to the bar and reception area to dance the night away until the small hours with our late licence. We can host up to 100 guests for the day reception and then 160 for the evening.
What makes Denton Hall a special wedding venue and sets it apart from others?

Ourselves and the catering managers from Box Tree Events always ensure that the bridal party are aware of who we are and that they can come to us with anything they need, plus we are on hand for you both all day too.
Can you tell us about the accommodation at the venue?
Our couples can make a full weekend out of the exclusive use of the hall, we have 24 guest bedrooms plus our luxury bridal suite and lodge suites. We don’t book our rooms out to anyone other than the wedding party and get the bride and groom to allocate the bedrooms – that way you can make sure that those who definitely need a room have one.
Tell us about your catering services and what makes them special?
One thing we are immensely proud of here at Denton is our catering. We have worked exclusively with the amazing and fabulous team at Box Tree Events for the past seven years, who will delight and excite couples with their wonderful wedding menus and choices.
What is the feedback like from couples about Denton Hall?
One of the bets parts of the wedding weekend for us is seeing just how happy our couples are. The joy just beams out of their faces. We often get feedback which thanks us for being part of the whole journey, from the first show around until check out on the Sunday morning. Working with Box Tree Events also ensures the food is just sensational. There are always comments from our couples and their friends and family on just how delicious the entire wedding breakfast was.

Today’s real wedding is all about the fun factor, with newlyweds, Jen and Leigh, making sure this was one of their top priorities when planning their special day. From the ceremony and decorations to the food and music, they also injected a personal touch across every aspect of their nuptials and the celebrations after. And we’re completely smitten with the results.
The gorgeous Grade II listed Mansion in Roundhay Park, Leeds – a Brides Up North Sponsor venue, no less – provided the luxurious backdrop to the couple’s November wedding.
Jen and Leigh looked to the wintry season for inspiration, with gorgeous berry and navy tones and a touch of gold, as well as ‘wild’ floral arrangements and a hearty wedding breakfast. Other little details to look out for include gold prosecco bottles for their centrepieces and corks as place setting holders – simple yet beautiful, and an idea we think we’ll be borrowing!
DIARY DATE: We will be holding a Brides Up North Luxury Wedding Fair at The Mansion on Sunday 25th February 2018, 11am to 2pm, FREE ENTRY. Be sure to join us to see more of this fabulous venue and to meet a handpicked selection of top suppliers from the area.

jen says: We got engaged on Christmas Day 2016. We had spent a couple of years renovating our house and Leigh suggested that it might be nice to have Christmas in our own home for the first time ever. We woke up on Christmas morning and opened what I thought were silly stocking presents. At the very bottom of mine was a beautifully wrapped box and when I looked up, Leigh was on one knee asking me to marry him! It was just perfect, very private and romantic with the twinkly lights on the tree. My family came over for Christmas dinner and it was so exciting to be able to celebrate with them on such a special day.
We got married on 11th November 2017. We had been together for 11 years at that point and once we had decided to get married, we didn’t want to hang around! We love this time of year, particularly crisp autumn days with all the beautiful colours on the trees and the gorgeous low light.
We tied the knot at The Mansion in Roundhay Park, and were able to have both our ceremony and reception there. As soon as we arrived, we knew that it would be the place for us. Roundhay Park is beautiful and has a wonderful family feel to it. The Mansion itself is a gorgeous old house, which is decorated in a contemporary style and is incredibly warm and inviting. It has two main rooms, so we were able to have our ceremony and reception in different places and it was big enough that, had the weather been poor, our guests could comfortably spend all day inside. From our first meeting, Dine (who run the venue) were incredibly friendly and professional, nothing seemed to be too much trouble.
We didn’t have a theme as such but wanted the whole day to feel relaxed and cosy. We decorated the building with photos of our friends and family and used candles everywhere to create a romantic mood.
We had a combination of warm berry and navy tones to reflect the time of year and our centrepieces were gold to match the colours of the building’s interior.
I wore a floor-length Essense of Australia dress from Ava Rose Hamilton in Silsden, West Yorkshire. I knew that I wanted something lacy and fitted but this dress went beyond my original expectations, with beautiful beading detail and a long train. The back of the dress was particularly intricate, so I went for a sheer veil in the same length as my train. I loved my dress and wish I could wear it again!
My hair and makeup artist, Anna Stephenson was amazing. She was able to replicate the images that I had shown to her as well as make suggestions.
