Back To Nature. Claire Pettibone For A Styled Bridal Shoot At The Alnwick Garden, Northumberland

February 24th, 2014 | Julia Braime

Adamskii Photography for Kathryn S Trueman at The Alnwick Garden

This season, I am told by those who really know, it’s all about “the back”.

One someone who certainly knows these things is Kathryn at Kathryn S Trueman Bridal & Occasions in Morpeth, Northumberland, and today she’s here on the wedding blog to show off the latest collection from the newest designer to be stocked in her lovely boutique (and one of my personal favourites!) Claire Pettibone.

With ethereal imagery by the fabulous Adamskii Photography, and shot on location at Brides Up North Luxury Wedding Exhibition venue, The Alnwick Garden, this is one beautiful way to start the week.

Kathryn says:  Claire Pettibone are an L.A. based design house best known for their intimate, feminine and couture styling. Claire describes herself as a ‘true romantic’ and her vintage, yet modern dresses certainly have that “je ne sais quoi”!  .

"When I design a collection I strive to make a woman feel as special as the delicate creation she is wearing; take her to an enchanted time and place where women are princesses and magnificent goddesses. In today’s modern world we need to pause and indulge in beauty." Claire Pettibone

My team at Kathryn S Trueman Bridal decided to celebrate becoming the only stockist of Claire Pettibone in the North East of England by having an exclusive photo shoot of the dresses at the exquisite Alnwick Garden in January this year.

We wanted to find a setting that mirrored the Claire Pettibone styling, and where better than on our own doorstep, at the Alnwick Garden and it’s magnificent Treehouse Restaurant?

The photographs were taken by Adamskii Photography, who share the building with our boutique, at 42 Bridge Street Weddings – the recently launched ‘Wedding Department Store’ in Morpeth.  42 Bridge Street Weddings also houses Demoiselle Lingerie, K Beautique Makeup, Wiggle & Gilbert Menswear, Black Stripe Events, Hummingbird Jones Wedding Stationers and the Adamskii Photobooth!  With 42 Bridge Street Weddings we have created the ‘Harvey Nicks’ of the Wedding Industry, offering eight top quality wedding services under one roof.

Back in January, Alnwick Garden was closed to the public, yet we were granted access for this shoot. We started off around the magnificent Fountains and the Poison Garden, before moving over to the Treehouse – somewhere that Adam has wanted to use for a fashion shoot for years – and finally ending up in the Walled Gardens. The dresses made the shoot, and the models were fantastic – we wanted a certain ethereal innocence to shine through; ‘Alice In Wonderland meets Narnia’!

42 Bridge Street Weddings will be exhibiting collectively at The Brides Up North Luxury & Vintage Wedding Exhibition at The Alnwick Garden on Sunday 18th May 2014. A beautiful, excusive event in an extraordinary setting.  Closing our spring season for 2014, it’s set to be a magical day.  Be inspired! Other wedding fairs?  Pah!  What’s the point?! And yes, you read that right, the events are FREE ENTRY.  Cos I love ya, baby.

Girl’s World. Supplier Showcase: Abbie Sizer Photography

February 21st, 2014 | Julia Braime

Abbie Sizer Photography

Happy Friday Brides Up North!  Enjoy that hey-it’s-Friday-the-inbox-can-wait cuppa you’ve got there and take some time out to catch up here on these pages.  It’s been an action packed week with lots of exhibitor introductions to make planning your big day that little bit easier, but this weekend the goings on doesn’t stop there.

We’re gearing up to open our season with a very big and very beautiful Brides Up North Bridal Bonanza Grand Wedding Exhibition at Hardwick Hall Hotel this Sunday 23rd February 2014, 12pm till 4pm, Free Entry, and can’t wait to see you there.  This is going to be good.  We’ve professional catwalks, 60 + luxury exhibitors and two (huge) hotel suites filled with wedding inspiration and we’re raring to go!

One lady who will be joining us on Sunday is Brides Up North Featured Supplier Abbie of Abbie Sizer Photography, so whilst I finish stuffing 250 VIP Bride To Be Goody Bags, I thought I’d let her say hello here first!  I’ll leave you with Abbie and see you on Sunday!

Abbie Sizer Photography

Hello Abbie, would you like to introduce yourself?

Hi, I’m Abbie and I’m a professional freelance wedding photographer. I have had an interest in photography for as long as I can remember but it was at the age of 17 whilst at college that I began to study photography at a professional level. I finished Cleveland college of Art and Design with two A Levels in photography and a BTEC National Diploma in media moving image. I then studied photography at Honours degree level and graduated from University in 2010. Since then I have worked alongside numerous wedding and family portraiture photography companies and established Abbie Sizer Photography in early 2011.

Abbie Sizer Photography

Abbie Sizer Photography

Why wedding photography specifically?

I love wedding photography. I love the romance, the individual creativity and the magic of each couple’s special day. Weddings allow me to be creative and to try new techniques and ideas. No wedding is the ever the same therefore my job is forever changing, challenging and exciting.

Abbie Sizer Photography

What is your favourite thing about being a wedding photographer?

I get ‘front row seats’ to lots of lovely weddings! In particular I like the wedding morning. Most brides invite me to spend the morning photographing the bridal preparations; I get to see the nervousness, the last minute preparations and the build up of the excitement.

Abbie Sizer Photography

Abbie Sizer Photography

Abbie Sizer Photography

How do you get couples to relax on the day?

My wedding day photography package includes a pre-wedding photo-shoot. This can be an engagement shoot, a family photo-shoot or even a pet photo-shoot! I use this as an opportunity to get to know the couple, find out their likes and dislikes, what style of photographs they like and how they prefer to work. The most important thing and the main aim of the pre-wedding photo-shoot is for the couple to feel comfortable in front of myself and the camera.

Abbie Sizer Photography

Any really memorable weddings that you have captured?

Last year I photographed a wedding which took place in a marquee on a family farm on the North Yorkshire Moors. The wedding was simple and perfect. Everything was lovingly handmade, even the bunting that ran the full length of the huge marquee. The happy couple had provided their guests with wellies ready for the outside dancing under the fairy lights and stars. The evening showcased a live local band and the whole day felt magical.

Abbie Sizer Photography

Abbie Sizer Photography

Abbie Sizer Photography

What sets you apart from other wedding photographers?

I like to spend time getting to know you before your big day. We head out on a separate engagement photo-shoot session, we work together on your ‘essential photo-list’ and we discuss photography likes and dislikes.

Each part of your wedding day is as important as the other, from bridal preparations into the evening celebrations, I will start when you want me start and finish when you want me to finish.

I bring a female photographer’s perspective to your day. You can guarantee that I will not miss those diamond earrings or your Jimmy Choos. I will photograph the extra lace detailing on your bouquet and your something borrowed and blue.

Abbie Sizer Photography

Abbie Sizer Photography

What can a couple who book you expect on the day?

Couples who book with me can expect quality, attention to detail, reliability and a happy, memorable, wedding day photography experience.

What is included in your "package"?

Here at Abbie Sizer Photography we have just one wedding day photography package. This package includes all the ins and outs and there are absolutely no hidden extras.

· On your wedding day I will arrive when you ask me to arrive and finish when you ask me to finish, whether that be joining you early morning for those very first preparations or staying into the evening until your first dance.

· Two fully qualified photographers to capture your wedding day from all angles. Photographing all those special moments and those natural, off camera, so easily missed moments.

· A pre-wedding consultation where we can get to know each other, discuss ideas and put together your ‘essentials photo list’.

· A bonus engagement photo-shoot. A brilliant idea for discovering how each other works, your preferred style of photography and to have you feeling at ease in front of me and the camera.

· Full professional processing work on all of your images with a mixture of colour, black & white and sepia imagery.

· Every image will be then presented to you on copyright free, presonalised DVD’s inside beautifully handcrafted presentation cases.

· You will be able to print from your disc at your leisure and use on the Internet without watermarks.

· New in 2014 your very own ‘Bellissimo Lifestyle’ wedding album.

Can you give us an idea on price?

Our full day wedding photography package is priced at £990.

Anything else we should know?

I work closely with Strike A Pose Wedding Videography. Although a photograph speaks a thousand words, there are some moments of your wedding day that even a photograph can’t capture as well as a video.

Your vows are a moment that you will want to relive, as are your speeches and maybe even your first dance! Strike A Pose Wedding Videography are a team of videographers that creative beautiful wedding day movies for bride and grooms. They’re unobtrusive in their filming and they have a talent for helping guests feel at ease in front of the camera. Their wedding movies typically last around 30 minutes, are edited to the couples’ very own soundtrack and portray all the emotions, excitement and laughter of the wedding day perfectly.

Abbie Sizer Photography and Strike A Pose Wedding Videography offer a combined photography and movie package so that you can have the best of both worlds.  They will be exhibiting together at The Brides Up North Bridal Bonanza Grand Wedding Exhibition at Hardwick Hall Hotel this Sunday 23rd February 2014.  Click here to reserve your VIP Bride To Be Goody Bag.

A Classic Romance. Pink & Grey For A Traditional Real Wedding At Rockliffe Hall – Claire & Chris

September 23rd, 2013 | Julia Braime

© jamie penfold photography 2013 - www.memoriesandemotions.co.uk

Welcome to a new week folks!  After a rare weekend off here at Brides Up North HQ – topped off by an X Factor and Downton Abbey marathon (hell yeah!) -  I’m back and bursting to get going.

I’ve so much wedding pretty to share with you between now and our Bridal Bonanza Grand Wedding Exhibition at Hardwick Hall Hotel this weekend that I’m going to jump right in.  We’re in the North East this morning, as we share in Claire and Chris’ utterly elegant celebration at the ever stunning Rockliffe Hall. Timeless, traditional and totally gorgeous.

Claire says:  We got engaged on Christmas morning 2011 – Chris surprised me with a ring as we opened Christmas presents in front of the tree. We had already been together over ten years but I still wasn’t expecting it!

It was the first place we visited as we had heard very good things about it, and we were blown away by the gorgeous venue! The staff were so helpful and friendly from our first meeting, and they couldn’t do enough for us from start to finish. We viewed a few other places after that, but we couldn’t get Rockliffe out of our heads, nowhere else compared for us! Becci and Colin made sure everything ran smoothly and we felt like we were in safe hands. The toastmaster, Robert Leeming was completely charming and really made the day extra special.

We didn’t have a theme; we just wanted the wedding to be quite traditional and classic, with a colour scheme of pale pinks and greys.

I chose a strapless fishtail dress embellished with crystals from I Do in Bill Quay. I also got my jewellery, hair band and veil from there.  My bridesmaids Ashleigh and Samantha wore short pink Dessy dresses, also from I Do.

Our hair was done by Elaine Rea from Tribeca Boldon and make up by Amy Askew from Aatiqah Boutique Spa. The girls worked wonders on us all!

Our bouquets included pink roses, white freesias, white veronica and eucalyptus, made by Cinnamon Rose. They also supplied the centrepieces of candelabras and roses.

We travelled in a Bentley S2 from Fearon’s, we loved the classic shape and colour of the car.

Our videographer Steve Spowart from Gibside Video Service was brilliant.

Jamie Penfold was our photographer and he was fab. We couldn’t be happier with the photos from the day!

The invitations, orders of service and other stationery were designed by Noble Fine Art. Julia and Charlotte did a fantastic job and were so organised, which took a lot of stress out of it for me!

Gemma of Love Lily Cakes made our four tier cake, and it was delicious! We chose a bottom tier of carrot cake, followed by vanilla sponge, chocolate and fruit cake. She handcrafted flowers to imitate those in my bouquet and she did an amazing job.

Chris’ cousin Caroline made a slideshow of photos of us both, as babies, through our teenage years up to the present day. It was shown just before our first dance and it was a lovely surprise for us, however there were some extremely questionable photos included!

We went to Dance City and had a few lessons with a dance teacher, Sue, who choreographed a first dance routine for us. Although it didn’t go quite as planned on the night, as we didn’t have time to practise in the lead-up to the wedding, we had such a lot of fun doing it and our guests seemed to enjoy us looking silly too!

Jason Isaacs entertained us all and got everyone people dancing early on! He was superb. We then had a DJ from Prime Entertainment, who had us all dancing until the early hours.

For our honeymoon we spent two weeks in El Dorado Casitas in Mexico and it was fabulous – we didn’t want to come home!

My top tip for other Brides Up North would be to take it easy on the morning of the wedding.  I’m so glad I got Elaine and Amy to come to my house. There was a really chilled atmosphere as there was no rushing around and we could just relax and be pampered in our PJs!

Congratulations Claire & Chris!

This is a super special event, as not only is it kicking off our Autumn season in style, but it’s also in one of the prettiest settings I know – the extraordinary contemporary gardens, atriums and vintage marquee at The Alnwick Garden.

Roses & Thistles: Maggie Sottero For A Real Wedding At The Alnwick Garden, Northumberland – Samantha & Kenny

August 6th, 2013 | Julia Braime

Sean Elliott Photography

I’m such a tease aren’t I?!  After pressing publish on Monday morning’s blog post, I knew that it would be cruel not to share the rest of the gorgeous shots from Sam and Kenny’s beautiful Real Wedding at The Alnwick Garden on the blog.  After all, it’s one of the prettiest days I’ve seen.  Could these two be any more photogenic?

So, the purpose of yesterday’s post was to alert you to a very special event coming up very, very soon – opening our autumn season, in fact – The Brides Up North Luxury & Vintage Wedding Exhibition at The Alnwick Garden on Sunday 1st September 2013.  To get the full lowdown and register for completely free VIP Bride To Be entry and your goody bag, click here

Once you’ve been there, done that, some back to share the rest of Sam and Kenny’s big day.  With images by the ever talented Sean Elliott Photography (who’ll be joining us on September 1st too), this is one to remember.

Sam says:  We got engaged in Dubai, in September 2009. Kenny wrote ‘Marry me?’ in rose petals on the bed whilst I was at the pool sunbathing… quite the romantic!

Sean Elliott Photography

We tied the knot in June at The Alnwick Garden in the Pavilion Room.  We felt that the Garden was somewhere different, with stunning grounds for the perfect photos.  It’s also a memorable venue for people who hadn’t been before – the grand cascade as the main viewpoint throughout the ceremony, the rose garden, bamboo maze, the tree house and all of the water features gave guests that little something extra, over and above a wedding in a hotel or stately home.

We didn’t have a theme, we just wanted to keep it simple and relaxed – a bit like us!  We chose a colour scheme of black and white with pinks and whites in the bouquets and button holes adding a splash of colour.

I wore the Maggie Sottero “Reece” dress from Blush Bridal Boutique in Uppermill, Saddleworth and Kenny wore a kilt, in Morrison Clan tartan… sticking to family tradition.  He had it hand-made at Nicholson Kiltmakers in Edinburgh.

Sean Elliott Photography

The groomsmen wore kilts in Blackwatch tartan (hired from Slaters), sticking to the groom’s Scottish roots and the bridesmaids wore simple black floor length dresses from Monsoon.

Sean Elliott Photography

The bridesmaids and I had peony rose bouquets with a mix of pinks and some white roses and Kenny had a  pink peony buttonhole (to match my bouquet) with Scottish thistles.

Getting ready with my mum and the bridesmaids was great fun, very relaxed and involved quite a lot of champagne!

Sean Elliott Photography

Guests were taken to the venue by Dreadnought Coaches in the 1952 Leyland Titan.   The guests and groomsmen travelled in more style than the bridal party!  When boarding the bus, the groom, best man and ushers gave everyone a glass of fizz to get the celebrations started. I think it’s fair to say the journey for the guests was a real social event!

Arco String Quartet played some beautiful music for our guests’ arrival, my entrance, signing the register and at end of the ceremony – including Elbow – One Day Like This – and The Beatles – All You Need Is Love.

Kenny’s father made all of the ladies’ favours by hand – strawberry and champagne preserve, with little poem on the labels: “A spoonful of sugar and two sweet kisses, now Kenny and Sam are Mr and Mrs”.

The best man’s speech was  brilliant, one of the best I’ve ever seen. He used a video to really take the mick out of Kenny and had everyone in fits of laughter. ‘Mr Lover Man, Shabba’ was the song of choice for the video… very entertaining!  It was also great to have all of our nearest and dearest in one room together as it doesn’t happen all that often!

A friend of ours, DJ James Cummings provided the evening entertainment.  We had a small part of the night dedicated to a ceilidh too, which went down really well and Sean Elliott got some great action shots!

After the wedding we did a road trip through California – Vegas, San Francisco, Route 1 with various stop offs including Santa Barbara and Carmel, finishing off in LA, going to the Standard Hotel for their famous rooftop party on the last night of our honeymoon… the perfect end!

My top tips for other Brides Up North would be: don’t get stressed, don’t have massively high expectations that you may find impossible to meet, make sure your wedding reflects you as a couple, no-one else (i.e. don’t try to imitate anyone else, or do something just because you think your guests will like it – if you don’t), and just relax and enjoy every single moment, from planning, right through to sending out your thank you cards!

Sean Elliott Photography

Congratulations Sam & Kenny!

Get the date in your diaries – I might have mentioned it a few times (too many?) but our opening event of the season – The Brides Up North Luxury & Vintage Wedding Exhibition at The Alnwick Garden is on Sunday 1st September 2013 from 11am till 4pm.  Pre register now for free entry and your VIP Bride To Be Goody Bag!

Frosted Romance At Thorp Perrow: A Beautiful Brides Up North Wedding Inspiration Shoot

April 30th, 2013 | Julia Braime

Thorp Perrow by Joe Dodsworth Photography

.

Now, you now I’m not really a fan of a repost (and I shared this winter glamour bridal inspiration shoot with you following the Brides Up North Christmas party) but I’ve got a really rather lovely Brides Up North Luxury Wedding Exhibition coming up at this absolutely stunning stately home and gardens – Thorp Perrow, a new, authentic and exclusive private wedding venue in the heart of Bedale –  and wanted to remind you why you need to be there on Sunday 12th May!

The venue was the stunning house at Thorp Perrow, where I was lucky enough to host the Brides Up North Christmas Party just a day later (click here for a full catch up and photographs from that sparkling event).

On May 12th, you’ll get to see this venue in all it’s blooming Summer glory (more on that soon), but to illustrate it’s beauty in Winter too we chose an almost frozen look, working with natural winter light, the pale pastel decor of the venue and the almost ethereal beauty of our two models, Ruth Sturdy and Alexandra Ellis.

I was thinking Russian princesses, a wintery Marie Antoinette, the Snow Queen’s court, Faberge egg colours and gilding and er, Kylie Minogue in January’s Elle Magazine. One thing’s for sure – it worked!

We were also joined on site by the talent of Deborah of Love On Location, who was responsible for the amazing hair styling, the fabulous team at Curvy Bridal who provided all the breath taking gowns, accessories, shoes and head pieces (as well as working like troopers all day) and the supremely talented Jo of Twisted Willow Floristry, who dressed the venue with her floral creations ready for the following evening’s party while we styled things up.

So first, a peep behind the scenes (and yes, we DID keep our coats on…to keep the venue cool for those lovely flowers) and then to some rather fine art photography.  I’m thinking that Vogue is calling…
