Before you head down, make sure you visit the fair’s website to familiarise yourself with the show, the features and all of our exhibitors, and then be sure to follow our top tips for your first visit!

Start your day at the Catwalk Show
the wedding fairs say: There’s no better place to see a wide variety of beautiful wedding dresses than live on the runway. Large scale shows will always have a fantastic runway, with top bridal boutiques showcasing the year’s most sought after designs and elegant classics, in a choreographed showcase that shows you a wide variety of dresses. Grab a glass of bubbly and watch as models run the catwalk in beautiful gowns and elegant footwear, bridesmaids and occasion wear, often joined onstage by male models showcasing tailored suits. It’s the perfect way to start your day and get you inspired to start hunting. We run 3 catwalks a day out at The North East Wedding Fair.
Find your wedding dress
Having seen the dresses on the catwalk, take note of your favourites and head to the boutiques and designers to try them on. At The North East Wedding Fair, we have a plenty of bridal designers and boutiques where you’ll be able to try on the gowns you’ve just seen on the runway, as well as hundreds more. With a huge selection of dresses, experts are always on hand at any fair to assist you in looking for your perfect dress and guide you in the right direction to make sure you feel and look your best on your big day.
Take your time
At our Newcastle show we over 100 exhibitors, so make sure you arrive with plenty of time to make your way around the fair. Exhibitors at any fair are experts in their respective fields and are dedicated to making your day the absolute best it can be, so be sure to speak to them about your wedding, ask as many questions as you need and let them know all about your special day.

Grab a show guide
You’ve found the perfect venue – beautiful but fun, you know your guests will love it and you can’t picture your day being anywhere else, but, you’ve forgotten the name now you’re home and you’ve googled everything you can think of to find it with no luck. We try to make it as easy as possible to find the people you’ve met at The Wedding Fairs. We have an online exhibitor list but our printed show guide is free, so be sure to grab one at the entrance to make note of the people you need to contact once you’re home! If you can’t find one, be sure to ask staff at the fair and a member of staff will be more than happy to assist!
Celebrate your engagement in style
The planning process comes only second to the big day itself in terms of excitement, so why not treat yourself and your party to extra special visit to the fair with Silver or Gold afternoon tea tickets with SHOW Beauty. The elegant wedding of Stefanie and Jason took place at the incredibly stunning, exclusive-use venue that is Lartington Hall, a beautiful country manor in the Teesdale countryside. As you can see from Stefanie and Jason’s wedding, beautifully captured by photographer Helen Russell, this is a first class venue for a first class big day!

stefanie says: We got engaged on 8th May 2015, which was exactly six years to the day since we met. Jason had booked a surprise trip away to New York, and I only found out where we were going once we arrived at the airport. It was such an emotional moment when I found out!
On the second afternoon there Jason had booked me a surprise massage in the hotel spa. When I returned to the room he was nowhere to be seen! He had left me a note saying I had to be ready for 7pm as a driver would be waiting for me at the hotel reception. The driver took me to a mystery location which turned out to be a private rooftop overlooking Manhattan. Jason was there waiting for me with a bouquet of red roses and his hand behind his back! He then got down on one knee! We celebrated with a bottle of champagne on the rooftop, before heading to a lovely little restaurant nestled underneath Brooklyn Bridge with a view of Manhattan, to continue the celebrations. It really was like fairy tale!
We got married on 8th October 2016. We chose this date as the venue we had fallen in love with – Lartington Hall – was fully booked up for every Saturday until this date!
Lartington Hall is a beautiful country manor in the Teesdale countryside. We got a good feeling as soon as we drove up to the venue, along the long gravel track through a field of curious sheep! We instantly fell in love when we saw how stunning all the rooms were, it certainly had the wow factor we were looking for. We also loved that the venue offered exclusive use of the hall and gardens for the weekend. Knowing it was just our friends and family there certainly gave it a more intimate feel.
We didn’t have a theme as such however we wanted to create a stylish and luxurious feel that tied in with the style of the venue.
The colour scheme was pale grey/blue with lots of whites/creams and a hint of blush. We also incorporated a lot of gold as Lartington Hall has lots of gold detailing throughout the venue. For example we added gold beaded charger plates from The Whole Sch-bang, to complement the gold chairs and the gold mirrors/candelabras in the dining room where we had our wedding breakfast.
My wedding dress was a Moroccan silk and lace fitted gown by Martina Liana from Ava Rose Hamilton, in Silsden. The top half of the dress was made from guipure lace, with illusion sleeves and an illusion back. There were buttons right the way down the back of the dress from the top to the bottom of the skirt. I visited a few wedding dress shops first but nowhere seemed to have the style of dress I was after. I then spent hours searching the internet trying to find this style of dress, but struggled to find one that had all the aspects I envisioned! When I finally came across this Martina Liana gown, it was the only dress I got shivers over, I knew it was the one before I even tried it on! Ava Rose Hamilton ordered a sample dress into store for me to try and it was everything I imagined. Terri (the seamstress) did an incredible job at making sure the dress fitted perfectly – it fitted like a glove!
On the morning of the wedding, Lisa Cameron did the hair for the bridal party and Heather-Francesca did our makeup. We would highly recommend both, they were brilliant to have around on the morning and a calming presence as I was extremely nervous the whole morning.
Jason and his groomsmen wore navy blue suits from Marks & Spencer. Jason originally wanted to go for a designer suit, however with five groomsmen it was getting rather pricey! In the end we came across a really good quality suit in M&S. Jason also wore a Thomas Pink shirt, a navy spotted tie and a grey waistcoat. He completed his look with Ted Baker shoes, Mulberry cufflinks and a Mulberry tie clip.

2016 is by far our busiest and most exciting year yet (the team have like, one Sunday off each out of 52) and we’d love to help you and your #bridesquad get your wedding inspo on and see you at one of our very special wedding shows this autumn.

For those Brides Up North readers who are new around these parts, we have a loyal and local following both on these pretty pages and off, and have hosted over 80 gorgeous wedding exhibitions and soirees since 2012! We’ve amassed
a fair bit a ridiculous amount of experience in this time, and are always tweaking our events and offering (every single event at every single one of our beautiful partner venues is completely bespoke and meticulously planned from scratch each season, we’re fussy like that). We generally hate blowing our own trumpet (modest? us? noooo!) but we really do think that our shows are the very best in the business, and pride ourselves on delivering an amazing and inspiring experience to both our visiting brides and exhibitors alike.
Watch out for new features (like our amazing WHITEHOT designer catwalks at Ramside Hall, tipi village at Hardwick Hall and debuting the brand new Orangery at Newby Hall), plus all the Brides Up North magic and sparkle and sensational exhibitor mix that comes as standard.
We’re also looking ahead to 2018, when we’ll be hosting a designer wedding experience for brides UK wide in collaboration with glossy Unveiled Magazine. brides/UNVEILED, The Luxury Wedding Show For The North, will now debut spring 2018 at Harrogate International Centre. As an immersive luxury bridal experience spanning two days in this celebrated, accessible exhibition space in the heart of the UK, brides/UNVEILED will aim to bring the stylish pages of our popular media products to life. With bespoke spaces, creative concepts and luxe visual displays like no other, this high end consumer bridal event aims to connect the inspiration gathering process with the professionals who can deliver sensational results. We are fortunate to hold our Luxury Wedding Exhibitions at some of the finest venues in the north, from historic castles and fascinating manor houses to gorgeous boutique hotels, which means we’re pretty clued up when it comes to finding the perfect place to say those all-important ‘I dos’.
One such venue that features highly on our list is the stunning Middleton Lodge tucked away in the beautiful North Yorkshire countryside. With a magnificent manor house, stylish accommodation, heavenly Treatment Rooms and to-die-for-food, this is one of those venues that has something to offer to all. Shh! We’ve also heard that there may be a few very limited, select dates still available at the venue in 2016 – info that you might be wanting to keep to yourselves!
On Sunday 10th April 2016, we will be staging one of our fabulous Brides Up North Luxury Wedding Exhibitions at this super chic venue giving brides and grooms the opportunity to see its amazing big day offering for themselves, but in the meantime we’ve asked Anna Russell, Middleton Lodge’s wedding and events manager, to give us a taste of what couples can expect…
Where is Middleton Lodge located?
anna says: Middleton Lodge is situated in a stunning location just on the outskirts of Richmond in North Yorkshire. It’s a gorgeous Georgian country estate, nestled within 200 acres of grounds, with views across the Yorkshire Dales and Cleveland Hills.
Tell Brides Up North about the venue, what is its history?
Middleton Lodge was built for Leonard Hartley, a local mining family, in 1780 and designed by renowned architect John Carr of York.
The main house remains a family home and is available for exclusive private hire, whilst the Coach House is an award-winning restaurant with rooms.
The house has a stunning main atrium and reception rooms with vistas across parkland towards the North Yorkshire Moors. There are 17 guest bedrooms along with a snooker room, library bar, drawing room, dining room, guest kitchen and cellar bar.
The Allison family bought the estate in 1980 and over the last 30 years have sensitively restored the estate to its former glory. Couples now have the choice of the beautiful 17th century reception rooms in the main house, with space for up to 80 guests, or for those looking for something bigger we have our marquee. This canvas can hold up to 200 guests, providing a large space to decorate with your own spectacular touches, creating an event that is truly personal and unique to your wedding.
Launched in 2014, The Coach House at Middleton Lodge is located in the 200 acres grounds of Middleton Lodge. The boutique hotel and restaurant is a fresh take on a country retreat, offering an authentic and contemporary setting for guests to relax and enjoy.
Full of original character, The Coach House has been sensitively restored to create an original space, with 14 bedrooms altogether, five of which are part of the Scandinavian inspired Farmhouse, all located only a few footsteps from the bar and restaurant.
Each bedroom has been personalised and designed to reflect the style and spirit of the restaurant and hotel. Carefully selected quirky antiques and unique pieces from local craftsman create a unique ambience for each room.
Does Middleton Lodge cater for weddings?
Yes. Couples have the chance to host family and friends in their own private mansion for their exclusive wedding, with personal staff, private chefs, 17 bedrooms and the freedom to have the day exactly the way they want it.
Guests can hide away late into the evening in the atmospheric Cellar Bar at Middleton Lodge. With exposed bricks and vaulted ceilings, you can dance the night away, enjoy the late license bar or relax and toast the morning sunrise across the stunning hills that surround the country estate.
Is Middleton Lodge licensed for civil ceremonies?
Yes, we are fully licensed in three different areas of the Lodge. The Inner Hall, which seats up to 75 and up to 130 additional guests standing on the balcony. The Drawing Room, which seats up to 75, and the Outside Pavilion (weather dependent) which is available for 100 seated on gravel area, more if lawn is dry.
The Treatment Rooms are a recent addition to Middleton Lodge, can you tell us about the facilities?
The Treatment Rooms offer a variety of facials and massages, using the most organic and natural products from exclusive brands REN and VOYA. Derived from plants and minerals, REN’s core principle focus on purity, pleasure and high performance. VOYA is a completely organic seaweed based product range that’s hand harvested in Ireland by the same family-run business.
Located just footsteps from the main house, the therapists at The Treatment Room offer everything from wedding make up to blissful massages and luxurious manicures, all perfect for the bridal party and guests to indulge and relax ahead of the big day.
