Diary Date: Inspirational Wedding Weekend At Dandy Events

September 19th, 2013 | Julia Braime

Well would’ya look at that – this weekend Brides Up North doesn’t have a bridal event planned for you lot!  It’s a very rare weekend off for me and the Brides Up North team and I’ll be spending it celebrating my best friend’s wedding.  Yes, on my days off:  I go to weddings.  It figures, doesn’t it?

Dandy Events Inspirational Wedding Weekend

As I perform my bridesmaid duties for bride to be Victoria (Hello Vic!) – and party up a storm on the dance floor – I didn’t want to leave you high and dry, so I thought I’d pop by this afternoon to tell you about where you can get your wedding planning kicks this weekend.

Brides Up North Featured Supplier and friends at Dandy Events are hosting another of their fabulous weekend  showcase events at their premises on Scotswood Road in Newcastle.  Join Denise and her team of wedding design consultants to see how they can make your styling dreams come true.  Take it from me, I’m not talking about chair covers here – these guys are seriously good.

There’s free bucks fizz, canapés, fantastic discounts and exclusive decor ideas to be had, plus one lucky bride will dinner for two at The Biscuit Factory.

Be there – 10am till 5pm, both Saturday and Sunday, this weekend.  No appointment necessary.

North East Dream Venue: Blackfriars Banquet Hall – Wedding Fair Next Weekend!

April 28th, 2012 | Julia Braime

.

If you are a North East bride to be looking for a special venue for an intimate celebration, look no further than Brides Up North’s latest Featured Supplier, Blackfriars, Newcastle Upon Tyne.

.

.

Blackfriars Banquet Hall

.

.

A brand new North East wedding fair is taking place at Blackfriars’ Banquet Hall next weekend to showcase the venue and to offer brides and grooms lots of inspiration for their big day.  Blackfriars’ Banquet Hall dates back from 1239 when it was the celebrated venue used by King Edward III for receiving royal Scot, Edward Balliol, in 1334.  In 2011 it was restored by the restaurant owner Andy Hook to bring it back to its former glory and it can now cater for weddings for up to 50 people.  The venue has also just been granted its civil license to hold weddings on the premises.

.

The Banquet Hall is decorated with authentic banners, chandeliers, wall coverings and stained-glass windows, and furnishings include large oak communal dining tables and matching chairs. Guests can also enjoy the enclosed courtyard for pre-event Champagne and canapés or they can move across to the restaurant later on in the day if they prefer.

.

.

Blackfriars Restaurant

.

.

Although Blackfriars is a medieval venue, couples can theme the day in any way they prefer.  Andy Hook, owner of Blackfriars, says: “We offers brides and grooms a truly unique setting in which to celebrate their big day in the heart of the city and we hope our first bridal event will showcase all we have to offer. In particular we are taking bookings for this year so if customers fancy a spontaneous engagement and a wedding on the same day we are the ideal place. We also have a dedicated wedding co-ordinator to ensure the day runs smoothly.”

.

The wedding fair will be held on Sunday May 13th from 12 noon to 4pm and visitors will be treated to Champagne and canapés to sample the food on offer at Blackfriars as well as 10% discount on food if they book their wedding on that day. Admission is free.

.

Local companies will be on hand to give help and advice on every aspect of a wedding reception from table decorations to entertainment, flowers, stationery, wedding cakes, jewellery, photography, wedding and bridal outfits as well as live demonstrations and a fashion show from Eve and Adam wedding dress hire.

.

Blackfriars only hosts one wedding reception on a given day and to help ease the pressure on the couple, the venue also has close links with its recommended wedding fair suppliers for flowers, cakes and photographers, some of which will be at the show.

.

.

Blackfriars Terrace

.

.

Exhibitors on the day will include (Brides Up North Featured Suppliers are linked):  Little Town Bakery, Flower-Fever, Dusk till Dawn, Simply Bows and Chair Covers, Finishing Touches, Amaryllis Beauty, Bespoke Jewellery design, Daisy Chain Events, Paul Lytton, Gerald Simblet Photography and  Eve and Adam.

This Crazy Little Thing Called Wedding Blogging

March 19th, 2012 | Julia Braime

.

It seems like this has been here there and everywhere over the past couple of months, whilst still somehow finding the time to share gorgeousness like this, this and this here on the wedding blog.  I’m pleased to report that all this hard work seems to be paying off, as visits to have never been higher than in this first quarter of 2012.  So I guess I’m doing something right!

.

You can’t ride the rollercoaster of starting and developing your own brand and business without the odd pit stop though, or you might go crazy (or more crazy)!  So, weary of mind, body and spirit, I thought it was high time for two things.  Firstly, a little break to have some “real life” fun, hell, just to have a real life!  And secondly, a long over due personal post to recap just some of of what I’ve been up to behind the scenes.

.

.

Brides Up North UK Wedding Blog

.

.

I always find writing my more personal posts slightly more daunting than say, a Real Wedding or fashion feature, but you guys seem to like them and it’s a nice way of reflecting on all my hard work – and proving that bloggers don’t just spend their days on an extended holiday or lazing on the sofa.  Not this one anyway!

.

So here goes.  An insight into the crazy World here at Brides Up North HQ.  Excuse the limited and rather rubbish selection of iPhone pictures, I’m no professional!

.

Let me take you back.  Way back, to a snowy week at the start of February.  We thought that we were home and dry, Winter was over, and then all of a sudden – flurries of the white stuff.  In my previous life as a solicitor, an unexpected snowfall and the very possibility of a snow day would have been met with unprecedented glee – but the week before my very first Brides Up North Wedding Exclusive (and in a fairly remote castle location too?) – No thank you very much.

.

Lets just say that there was a lot of weather forecast watching, prayers being fired upwards left right and centre and a few expletives that week.  But, just as I had accepted that what would be would be, the snow suddenly disappeared as quickly as it had arrived, and we were in the clear!

All ready to go!

The first ever Brides Up North events team!

AKA The hubby and my dad – cheap labour, but a bit too much back chat Winking smile

.

.

The inaugural Brides Up North Wedding Exclusive at Allerton Castle ended up being a roaring success – way beyond my hopes.  Beautifully decorated by our 40 fantastic exhibitors, this stunning venue really came to life and the day saw a record attendance.  I couldn’t have asked for more, and my thanks must go out to each and every exhibitor, visiting bride and the Dine and Allerton teams for making the day so excellent.

Never one to take much of a breather, there was no lie in for me the next day and it was onwards and upwards, as the next Brides Up North Wedding Exclusive – this time at The Mansion in Leeds – followed a very short two weeks afterwards.  One record attendance event in a fortnight would have done it for me, but the turn out at The Mansion exceeded all expectations and it was another truly fabulous day.  Yorkshire, you rock.

.

.

Brides Up North UK Wedding Blog

.

.

And then, the hat trick!  Brides Up North rounded off a very busy three week period with the Brides Up North Super Showcase Wedding Exhibition, this time in the North East, at Ramside Hall Hotel in Durham.  This one was a biggy to say the least – in fact it was the largest free bridal event in the area this Spring – with over 100 exhibitors, two professional fashion shows and nearly 1000 visitors.  Woah mama!  That’s a lot for one gal to coordinate!  Luckily I had a team of fabulous helpers and each and every exhibitor really worked hard to make it a knock your socks off show.  To say that it was a good day is a complete understatement – and this first Super Showcase has to be the highlight of my Brides Up North career thus far.  Thank you to everyone who supported this huge event.  I can’t wait till the next one… and here’s a clue – you might want to save Sunday 9th September in your diaries now!

.

Snaparazzi

A little Snaparazzi action with the boys from AMV

.

After a few glasses of bubbly and a twelve hour sleep, it was time to boogie all my cares away.  In the week following the Super Showcase I moved back into my old bedroom at my parents’ house for a few days and awaited the eagerly anticipated AMV Live Music and Brides Up North Battle of The Wedding Bands at As You Like It Jesmond.  The first event of it’s kind and oh what a night it was!  The whole of the downstairs venue was packed to the rafters with lovely couples looking to book their wedding band whilst six amazing acts performed some classic party hits and more contemporary tunes.  AMV Live Music were flooded with bookings and I just drank some vino, bopped about chatting to brides and grooms and had the time of my life.  It was so much fun to let off some much needed steam but also to take the time to get excited with my readers about their forthcoming weddings.  When can we do it all over again?

It’s been back to the desk since then, catching up on admin – all the boring bits about running your own business – plus planning the next two Brides Up North Wedding Exclusives in Yorkshire in just under a month’s time (have you noticed the new banner at the top of the blog?  You can register for your VIP Goody bags now! GO GO GO!), plotting some really rather fabulous blog content including one SERIOUSLY kick ass competition – coming up very soon – and finalising details for the next set of Brides Up North Tweet Up wedding industry networking events.

.

.

..

.

I’ve also found the time to attend The British Bridal Exhibition in Harrogate, including the twinkling Bridal Buyer Awards where I was thrilled to be part of a panel of “web experts” (who, moi?) judging the Best Retailer Website Award, delivered a webinar and three seminars to the Forward Ladies and The UK Alliance of Wedding Planners on blogging for business and even been nominated for a little award of my own – for Best Wedding Directory at The Bridal Magazine Awards in just under a month.

.

Brides Up North UK Wedding Blog

.

Told you that I’d been busy.

.

So one of the most nerve wracking, exciting, thrilling and dynamic periods of my life was wrapped up beautifully this weekend with a break in London with my hubby, and then joining my family and friends to watch my great friend (and honorary little bro) Nick wipe the floor at the Top Model UK competition – winning both the top prize and the public vote.  Nick’s a Brides Up North model, so I’ve been campaigning hard for votes here on the wedding blog and it seems that your votes really did count!  Thanks to each and every person who voted for all of your support.  I can’t wait to see where his career might go, and we discovered him ladies!

.

.

.

.

There’s been a fair bit of bubbly consumed this weekend, but I’m starting the week fresh and bursting with new ideas.  I’m never one to rest on my laurels for long, so what’s next for Brides Up North?  Well, just you wait and see…

Wedding Fair Season Is Going Strong!

March 17th, 2012 | Julia Braime

.

I’m down in the Smoke this weekend for a family trip to support my friend (and honorary little bro) Nick in the final of the Top Model UK competition.  Nick is a recent Brides Up North model – see him in action here – and we have been massively rooting for him here at Brides Up North HQ.  Come on Nick – bring it home!

.

Alongside some FROW action as we cheer Nick on along the catwalk, I’ll also be finding the time to explore the capital – some shopping, a theatre trip, a trip to the park and a Mother’s Day lunch en masse on Sunday.  Sounds a.w.e.s.o.m.e.

.

Let’s all take a breather and spoil our mums this weekend eh ladies?  It’s time to celebrate, snuggle up and regroup as take it from me, next weekend is such a busy one all over the North with some top quality wedding events for Brides to Be that you just do not want to miss.

.

Here are my three top picks:

.

For North East ladies, pop along to the etc Wedding Show at Rockliffe Hall on Sunday 25th March.  This is a ticket only event and the first 150 callers go completely free (!) so call 0191 501 7114 to make sure that you get yours.

.

This is no ordinary event, as brides-to-be and their families will be given five-star treatment at the wedding show with a glass of champagne on arrival.  There are three time slots for visits to allow you to browse at your leisure.  You will then get to browse the 30+ stands, visualise your wedding ceremony taking place in the elegant Old Hall or glass-roofed Victorian Orangery – which will be set up as if to host a civil wedding – then sit back and relax while etc Magazine puts on a glittering catwalk show.

.

The etc Wedding Show

.

.

For Yorkshire ladies, my friends Lisa and Allison over at The Wedding Affair are hosting their biggest event yet!  You’ll be needing a glass of wine after this one girls! Lisa and Allison have been so supportive of the Brides Up North Wedding Exclusives this season and I wish them all the best with their first – sure to be stunning – two day Wedding For All Seasons event, on Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th March at Newburgh Priory in York.  You can register online here

.

A Wedding for All Seasons

.

.

And last but certainly not least, Brides Up North will be meeting and greeting you lovely North West ladies at an event we’ve been waiting a long time for – that I’m sure will be so good that I have put my name to it as a sponsor – The All Wrapped Up Events Wedding Carnival on Saturday 24th March at the Salford Reds Stadium.  If you saw the shoot these ladies did to promote the big day (you can see it again by clicking here) you will know that this certainly isn’t one to pass on.  Register here for your free goody bag.

.

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, I will see you there!

Did YOU Get Caught On Camera?

March 14th, 2012 | Julia Braime

.

You know back in the day before digital cameras were mainstream, and after a holiday, party, wedding or big night on the tiles you’d head to the chemist to get your film or your disposable “party camera” developed (remember the underwater ones you could get?!), then wait excitedly before crowding round in a group to devour the results and generally the carnage… well, that’s just how I felt upon receiving these fantastic Booth Revolution images following the two record attendance, sell out Brides Up North Wedding Exclusives at Allerton Castle and The Mansion in Yorkshire last month.

.

These retro photo booth images are a huge dose of nostalgia, mixed up with clear imagery and a veritable wardrobe of fun props.  Add some brides, grooms, bridesmaids, kiddies, mothers of the bride, fathers of the bride, grannies, aunties, a few industry suppliers (hello Allison!) and assorted mates and what do you get?

.

This.
