Today’s real wedding is all about the fun factor, with newlyweds, Jen and Leigh, making sure this was one of their top priorities when planning their special day. From the ceremony and decorations to the food and music, they also injected a personal touch across every aspect of their nuptials and the celebrations after. And we’re completely smitten with the results.

The gorgeous Grade II listed Mansion in Roundhay Park, Leeds – a Brides Up North Sponsor venue, no less – provided the luxurious backdrop to the couple’s November wedding.

Jen and Leigh looked to the wintry season for inspiration, with gorgeous berry and navy tones and a touch of gold, as well as ‘wild’ floral arrangements and a hearty wedding breakfast. Other little details to look out for include gold prosecco bottles for their centrepieces and corks as place setting holders – simple yet beautiful, and an idea we think we’ll be borrowing!

DIARY DATE: We will be holding a Brides Up North Luxury Wedding Fair at The Mansion on Sunday 25th February 2018, 11am to 2pm, FREE ENTRY. Be sure to join us to see more of this fabulous venue and to meet a handpicked selection of top suppliers from the area.

jen says: We got engaged on Christmas Day 2016. We had spent a couple of years renovating our house and Leigh suggested that it might be nice to have Christmas in our own home for the first time ever. We woke up on Christmas morning and opened what I thought were silly stocking presents. At the very bottom of mine was a beautifully wrapped box and when I looked up, Leigh was on one knee asking me to marry him! It was just perfect, very private and romantic with the twinkly lights on the tree. My family came over for Christmas dinner and it was so exciting to be able to celebrate with them on such a special day.

We got married on 11th November 2017. We had been together for 11 years at that point and once we had decided to get married, we didn’t want to hang around! We love this time of year, particularly crisp autumn days with all the beautiful colours on the trees and the gorgeous low light.

We tied the knot at The Mansion in Roundhay Park, and were able to have both our ceremony and reception there. As soon as we arrived, we knew that it would be the place for us. Roundhay Park is beautiful and has a wonderful family feel to it. The Mansion itself is a gorgeous old house, which is decorated in a contemporary style and is incredibly warm and inviting. It has two main rooms, so we were able to have our ceremony and reception in different places and it was big enough that, had the weather been poor, our guests could comfortably spend all day inside. From our first meeting, Dine (who run the venue) were incredibly friendly and professional, nothing seemed to be too much trouble.

We didn’t have a theme as such but wanted the whole day to feel relaxed and cosy. We decorated the building with photos of our friends and family and used candles everywhere to create a romantic mood.

We had a combination of warm berry and navy tones to reflect the time of year and our centrepieces were gold to match the colours of the building’s interior.

I wore a floor-length Essense of Australia dress from Ava Rose Hamilton in Silsden, West Yorkshire. I knew that I wanted something lacy and fitted but this dress went beyond my original expectations, with beautiful beading detail and a long train. The back of the dress was particularly intricate, so I went for a sheer veil in the same length as my train. I loved my dress and wish I could wear it again!

My hair and makeup artist, Anna Stephenson was amazing. She was able to replicate the images that I had shown to her as well as make suggestions.

real wedding recap 2017: a luxe woodland wedding in west yorkshire – rosie & ben

December 29th, 2017 | Alexis Forsyth

A Glam Woodland Wedding (c) A Little Picture (27)

It’s holiday season here on the blog, and as the editorial team take a short break, we’ll be leaving you with a reduced blogging schedule so that you still get your daily dose of wedding lovely. Usual service will recommence on Monday 8th January 2018 (we’re hoping we’ll be over the hangover by then, right?) but in the meantime watch out for recaps of some of our favourite Real Weddings from last 6 months.

Drop in every day for the very prettiest, most unique wedding inspiration and – if you are a Brides Up North bride – to see if your real wedding was one of our top picks.

If your morning caffeine hit hasn’t managed to fully wake you up, we’re pretty sure this stunning real wedding will open your eyes – and possibly cause them to pop out of your head – as this is an outdoor celebration with a difference! We’re talking chandeliers, sofas, mirrors and all kinds of opulent details that you wouldn’t expect in this woodland setting.

Opting for Applewood and Blossom Barn Weddings on the outskirts of Leeds, this backdrop was everything they could wish for, giving them free rein over the décor, entertainment and catering for their special day. The transparent marquee offering stunning views of the tree canopies above sounds positively dreamy, and as for the cocktail shack – this is the kind of bar we’d just love to stumble upon in the forest!

Here, Rosie tells us more about how they brought their original and boldly imaginative theme – The Ritz in the Woodland – to life…

rosie says: We got engaged on 10th of December 2015, in Lake Bled, Slovenia. Every year we go away for a short break during the festive period and we had decided on Lake Bled for its fairytale, picturesque landscape. On our first day, whilst we were walking round the lake, I stopped to take a photo to send to friends, when I turned around Ben was on one knee! We continued the walk together knowing it was only the two of us who knew, and stopped for lunch and champagne to celebrate!

We got married on 19th August 2017. We didn’t choose the date for any particular reason. We knew we didn’t want a traditional reception venue, such as a manor house, and I came across Applewood and Blossom Barn Weddings. They had only done one wedding before and we knew we could make it our own. They had two dates left for 2017 – so the 19th August it was!

We held our service at St Mary’s Church, Mirfield, which is our local church and happens to be stunning, and then the reception at Applewood and Blossom Barn Weddings on the outskirts of Leeds. We knew we wanted a traditional church service and a different reception venue. We have been to a lot of weddings and though each was beautiful, we wanted something different. At Applewood you can do whatever you want (within reason), so we could pick the decoration, food, music, drinks, entertainment, cake – everything!

The theme for our wedding was ‘The Ritz in the Woodland’. We wanted to create a complete juxtaposition between what people would traditionally expect of a woodland wedding (bunting, wellies, burlap, hay bales) and instead create drama with chandeliers in the trees, plush sofas, mirrors, texture, all white flowers and minimal greenery.

We had a three-course meal, including steak and wine on white table linen with champagne velvet table runners. We had a transparent marquee so people could sit in luxury and see the trees, and walk through the woodland and see elegance and opulence every step of the way.

Our colour scheme was simply ink blue and white. We wanted to keep it classy and elegant.

White flowers with a focus on peonies, roses and hydrangea stood out from the dramatic woodland background – the concept was to use flowers that you wouldn’t find in a woodland setting. We had white table linen and white flowers on mirrored centrepieces.
