Silver Streets: A Real Wedding In The North West – Becci & Mark

February 7th, 2013 | Julia Braime

Brides Up North reader Becci upped the fashion stakes on her big day by choosing shades of silver for her simple, chic wedding in the style capital of the North. Throw in some great food and grand settings and this gorgeous celebration, with images by Brides Up North Featured Supplier Richard Milnes Photography, carries some real city slicker class.

Becci says:  We got engaged in Zell Am See, Austria, under the town’s giant Christmas tree whilst it was snowing in January 2012.  It was the evening of my 30th birthday.

We were married on 26th January 2013 at Manchester Town Hall, with our reception at Stock Restaurant in the old Manchester Stock Exchange. We love the architecture of both buildings and think the food and service at Stock is amazing.

Our theme was “Dinner with friends” and we chose a colour scheme of pink, purple and silver.

I chose a bespoke dress made by Agape in a silvery, pink purple silk dupion.  The groomsmen wore

Pronuptia morning suits and my bridesmaid wore a full length deep purple dress from Coast.

We travelled by black cab to the town hall and by foot between the two venues, which was a lovely chance for some photographs of just the two of us.

The marriage ceremony itself was my favourite part of the day.  It was really emotional and meaningful to say our vows in front of all of our family and friends.

I carried a bouquet of roses, thistles, steel berries, orchids, and other small flowers and silvery foliage focusing on texture and interest made up for me by The Didsbury Flower Lounge.

We chose a ceilidh for post meal entertainment (the Flaxmere Ceilidh Band) and then loaded our iPod with indie and cheese anthems. We had photos we had taken over the years of all our guests being shown on a large TV screen.

Originally we were not going to have a cake but a friend offered to make one as a practise for her sister’s wedding. We were then amazed on the day when we saw an awesome three tiered cake made with handcrafted flowers!

After the wedding we honeymooned in the Lake District for a few days to unwind. We are off to Thailand for the main event at the end of the year and can’t wait!

Blue Sky Dreaming! A Real Marquee Wedding In Cheshire – Rebecca & Stephen

August 28th, 2012 | Julia Braime

.

Cheshire Wedding by Neil Redfern

.

.

I promised you a whole day of Real Wedding pretty, and that’s exactly what you are going to get.

.

I’m rounding things off in style this afternoon with a beautiful marquee wedding in Cheshire, sent to me by the wonderful Andrea of Brides Up North Featured Supplier and wedding planning wonder Fabulous Day, Neil Redfern Photography and real bride Rebecca.

.

Now wasn’t this the sort of weather we were meant to have for the bank holiday?  Let’s hope Rebecca and Stephen’s gorgeous big day spreads some sunshine this Tuesday afternoon!

.

.

Becky & Stephen's wedding by Neil Redfern

.

.

Rebecca says:  We got engaged in May 2011 in Mexico, Mayan Riviera. Stephen took me for a walk one evening after dinner to the beach where there was nobody but us, he sat me down on a beach bed and asked me to marry him under the stars.

.

.

Becky & Stephen's wedding by Neil Redfern

.

.

We were married on 30th June 2012 at my parents’ home in Tarporley, Cheshire. We had a marquee on their meadow for the reception and the ceremony took place in the main garden.

.

We couldn’t think of a more intimate place to get married than my family home. My parents have the space and it was a dream of mine to get married there so we made it happen. Every time I visit now it reminds me of my wedding day.

it was a typically English country garden wedding with vintage crockery, afternoon tea style wedding breakfast, old school garden games, sweet peas and lavender everywhere, using a colour palette of lavender and spring green.

I found my dress in Agape in Knutsford, it was a Watters & Watters Dress. It was the first shop I visited, and I had a completely different style in mind than the dress I choose. The second I put it on I just knew I loved it and that my initial ideas had been all wrong.

.

It was vintage lace bodice with a sweetheart neckline and then it went out at the waist with layers of organza and lace detail.

My bridesmaids wore a beautiful strapless knee length dress in Midori green, made by Watters & Watters (again from Agape in Knutsford) and the groomsmen hired their mid grey tails from Moss Bros, they wore lavender coloured ties to go with the colour scheme.

I carried a beautiful bouquet of mostly English flowers and wild grasses including a vintage rose. My bridesmaids had a smaller version of the same bouquet by Fletcher & Foley.

.

.

Becky & Stephen's wedding by Neil Redfern

.

.

I loved every single second but I think the ceremony was my favourite part of the day; it was so personal, we had written our own vows so they mean so much to us. Plus we said our vows to each other on my parents lawn in front of our closest friends and family, it was the best moment of my entire life!

We had a string quartet (Strelitza) who played for three hours before and after the ceremony while the guests drank champagne and ate canapés on the lawn. Then in the evening we had a DJ playing mostly 90’s classics.

To add a personal touch we gave our guests gifts of handmade favours (Jam and honey), made by the mother of the bride and mother of the groom and laid out vintage garden games  like quoits, croquet and boules.

My brother Richard made my cake, it was better than I ever could have imagined. It was three tiers of carrot cake (my favourite) with a cream cheese frosting. It was devoured in the evening with nothing left by all the guests.

If you are planning a marquee wedding at home then I would really recommend a wedding planner, there is so much more to do and organise than a venue wedding.  I do not know what we would have done without our wedding planner Andrea (Fabulous Day) , she made the day what it was… perfect! In fact I would hire her for any type of wedding, she removed all of the stress and let us enjoy the run up and the day.

In the afternoon we were in for a huge treat – an aerobatics display, organised by father of the groom, a total surprise to us but thoroughly enjoyed by all guests and surrounding neighbours of Tarporley who have been talking about it ever since!

After the wedding we went to Bangkok and then Koh Samui in Thailand, where we stayed at the Six Senses resort. Absolute paradise!

My top tip for other Brides Up North would be to remember that you are marrying the love of your life and nothing else matters.  If little things go wrong no one even notices, relax and enjoy because it goes by in a flash.

In An English Country Garden: A Real Wedding In The North West – Vikki & Rob

July 4th, 2012 | Julia Braime

.

A Real Wedding At Arley Hall by Adam Riley Photography

.

.

I’ve a treat for you to mark the middle of a busy week – a double header of Real Wedding gorgeousness!  Today’s first comes to us from the North West courtesy of Brides Up North Featured Supplier Adam Riley Photography and beautiful real bride Vikki.  And it’s an absolute stunner!

.

One of my favourite bits about editing the Real Wedding features for Brides Up North (apart from the wedding dress lust) is seeing the raw emotion of a wedding day come across in the images.  This wedding doesn’t disappoint… and I reckon we’ve got a fellow Daddy’s girl on our hands here!  Nice to know that I’m not alone (*waves* hello Dad!).

.

.

.

.

Vikki says:  We got engaged in November 2010 at Lumley Castle – I thought Rob had arranged a weekend away at a B&B near Durham but he had secretly booked a room at Lumley Castle, I had no idea what was going on until he got down on one knee!

We were married on 5th May 2012 at married Norcliffe Chapel, Styal and the reception was at Arley Hall, Northwich.  I grew up in Styal and my parents live five minutes from the Chapel, so it meant a lot to me to get married there. We chose Arley Hall for our reception because it’s a beautiful English country house, which is full of character and charm and the staff were so friendly and professional. It was exactly what we were looking for, and we fell in love with it straight away!

Our theme was ‘English Country Garden’, sort of ‘bringing the outside in’, with an ivory and sky blue colour scheme.

.

.

.

.

Steph Baker who has a salon in Wilmslow did all the bridesmaids and my nails on the Friday night and mine and my mums makeup on the day and Kate and Maria from David Anthony’s did all of our hair.

.

.

We booked a vintage Beauford Tourer from Horgans Cars to travel to the Church and the Venue.

.

.

A Real Wedding At Arley Hall by Adam Riley Photography

.

.

My dress was from Lancashire Bridal Gallery in Tarleton and was an end of season Sophia Tolli design, so I got it for a great price! I felt that the dress complimented the venue perfectly!

.

My bridesmaids were in Sky Blue Jasmine B2 dresses from Agape in Knutsford. As long as they were all in the same colour, I didn’t mind if they all wore different styles, but it turned out they all wanted the same dress!

.

.

A Real Wedding At Arley Hall by Adam Riley Photography

.

.

I was really emotional at the church, it was so amazing to have all our friends and family watch us get married, so I think that was my most favourite part of the day, but to be honest I loved it all!

.

.

A Real Wedding At Arley Hall by Adam Riley Photography

.

.

Janet from Croftland Nursery in Styal did the flowers in the church, the button holes and the bouquets. I gave her a vague description that I wanted ivory and blue ‘wild flowers’ tied together with string – I was overwhelmed with the final product, it was exactly what I had in my head!

I made all my own table decorations and table plan from lots of twigs, jam jars, string and wild flowers picked from my Mum’s garden the day before.

We also made Super Top Trump cards for all the guests as a bit of banter during the wedding breakfast!

Amy James did the chair covers for the wedding breakfast and RW Bespoke did all the catering at Arley Hall.

The very talented Leanne Holmes from ‘Bake Me I’m Yours’ made me a cake of cupcakes. She did four different designs which all followed our colour scheme and our ‘English Country Garden’ theme.

A string quartet from Thackeray Music set the tone for our Pimms reception at Arley Hall, and

David Lee was the DJ for the evening reception. He played an excellent mix of music, which kept the dance floor full all night!

We had an amazing honeymoon which started with five days of relaxation in the Seychelles, followed by four days in Rwanda, trekking to see the mountain gorillas and finished with seven days on Safari in the Serengeti.
