If you like pretty – and I know that you do – you are going to love today’s Real Wedding.  Aylsa and Martin’s big day at dream venue Beamish Hall is a sugar spun confection, whilst staying on the right side of classy.  Sweet and lovely.

Aylsa says:  We got engaged Christmas Day 2009. I was pregnant with our little girl Isla at the time and I was still living at home with my parents. Martin had been planning it behind my back with my parents. He had arranged to arrive early on Christmas morning. The doorbell rang and everyone ignored it so I had to get up. I answered it to Martin holding up place cards like the Keira Knightly scene in the film Love Actually. There was even a soundtrack of Silent Night.

We got married on Saturday 29th December 2012 at St Catherine’s church and our reception was at Beamish Hall.  We had been to weddings at Beamish Hall before and knew how much of a beautiful venue it was. It was the first venue we looked at and knew it was the right place for our wedding. It has a cosy atmosphere and the grounds are very picturesque.

We chose an English Vintage theme, with a colour scheme of ivory and pastel pink.

My dress was Augusta Jones ‘Ali’ dress which is a full lace fitted dress with round neck and long train. It was one of the first dresses I tried on in Lily White Bridal Boutique in Jesmond. I did not even go to any other shops as I knew this was the dress for me.

My bridesmaids all had champagne and gold dresses from Monsoon. The groomsmen wore black dinner suits from Slaters in Newcastle.

I designed my bridal bouquet and my daughter’s bouquet which were matching pink and cream fabric and brooch bouquets. I have since set up Love is Vintage where I design and handcraft fabric, brooch and button bouquets. My two older bridesmaids carried pink and ivory roses by Adam Prest.  Adam is a fantastic florist.  I have never seen work like this before and the flowers fit in so well with our theme.

The vows were the most emotional part but something that stood out to both of us was the first time were alone together without any guests when getting photographs taken at Wharton Park, Durham City. The view of the cathedral was breath-taking and to be there as husband and wife was very special.

Brooklands Wedding Cars provided us with a 1930s Beauford and a 1920s Regent car.

Our wedding photographer was Helen Russell Photography.  We cannot thank her enough for giving us such beautiful wedding photos. I have never seen photos of this quality before by any other photographer and we would highly recommend her to anybody getting married. She is truly talented!

We bought most of our vintage decor from Country Baskets. Beamish Extras provided us with a lot of vintage decor including the old style camera centre piece and ink well centre piece.

Our cake was made by Caramel Bobs and we chose a traditional fruit cake for the top tier and the remaining tiers were vanilla cupcakes with ivory and lace detail. The cake not only looked amazing but tasted sensational.

We used old fashioned photos of family members from their wedding days on a family table. This included photographs of some members of family who had passed away, this added sentimental value.

We had a string quartet, Aurora Strings at the church and Hip Operation provided our evening entertainment.

For our honeymoon we spent three nights in New York and the remaining seven nights in Riviera Maya, Mexico.

My top tip for other Brides Up North would be not to get hung up on the small details, everything will come together on the day. Enjoy every second of your big day as it goes over so quickly.

Congratulations Aylsa & Martin!

Exuberance! Augusta Jones For An Italian Spirited Real Wedding In Southport – Charlotte & Roger

June 13th, 2013 | Julia Braime

.

Today’s Real Wedding is an absolute knockout.  A beautifully styled day filled with Italian exuberance, true love and plenty of spirit.  These images by Alan Law Photography make me want to climb inside and relive it all with vibrant bride Charlotte, new husband Roger and their large and boisterous family.

Charlotte says:  We got engaged in Loch Lomond in Scotland. It was a beautiful spring day and Roger wanted to go for a walk. After ten minutes of trekking up a hill, I started to moan that I had had enough and the view was lovely from where we were. He insisted we carry on. Grumbling, I continued up the hill until we found a quiet rock to sit on. Bird spotter that he is, he pointed to the skies. When I looked back down, he was on one knee.

We got married on Friday 5th April 2013 at Meols Hall Tithe Barn in Churchtown near Southport.  I had known for a while that I wanted to get married in a converted barn, I just love the mixture of brickwork and wood. The candles and fairy lights create such a romantic venue. After many hours researching on the internet, I found the barn in Churchtown. The moment I walked in, I knew this was the place I wanted to get married.

I became slightly obsessed with some lovely birdcages I had found. It was the weekend after Easter so the theme was built around this. Roger, being an art teacher, made some amazing birdcage invitations. The place cards were birds and his extremely talented (and committed) mum crocheted a hundred little chicks as favours.  As it was a spring wedding, the colours were pastels.

I chose a beautiful dress by Augusta Jones named Ali which I got from Cheadle Brides. I knew I wanted lace and it had a vintage, classic feel to it which I adored.

The bridesmaids wore mink dresses from Monsoon. The cream lace detailing matched my dress perfectly. The groomsmen wore classic, black dinner suits. I really wanted a simple, smart look to go with the lace of my dress and the pastel colour scheme.

I carried a beautiful bouquet of pastel flowers by Irene and Mary, who were recommended by Meols Hall. Their beautiful flowers surpassed all of my expectations.

We both wrote an addition to the vows which made them all the more special and emotional. I still get goosebumps when I think of the beautiful words Roger wrote for me. They were perfect.

My cousin Sam is a talented musician. He arranged for the band Honeyfeet to play between the ceremony and reception. He also joined in on the double bass, which made it extra special. Their acoustic music created the perfect atmosphere for the coach house and pre-reception drinks.

.

Roger also wanted a magician. He is half-Italian and wanted to make sure that the entertainment could be enjoyed with no language barrier. We chose Stephen Williams

Roger’s Italian family shouted bacio (kiss) at every available opportunity made the day such fun. Their exuberance added to the fun of the day which is reflected in the photos. I seem to be laughing in every single one!

After the wedding we went on a ‘mini-moon’ to the Lakes. A log cabin on a river, with a hot tub and no phone signal was just what we needed to unwind. We are currently in the process of planning our main honeymoon to Costa Rica in August.

I felt like treating you this afternoon, so it’s a double whammy of wedding blog content this Sunday with this beautiful spring Real Wedding sent to me by Pixies In The Cellar and real bride Kristen.

.

Kristen and Carl’s fresh and colourful classic wedding is a breath of fresh air.  Enjoy (and watch out for a stunning Real Wedding instalment coming up bright and early tomorrow too!).

Kirsten says:  Carl asked me to marry him at home on 26th March 2011 and we were married on 24th March 2012 at The Villa Country House Hotel, Wrea Green.

We chose The Villa as it was a very relaxed and accommodating venue where we could have a get together with close friends and family the night before and everyone could stay over.

We didn’t really have a theme, but ‘Springtime’ very much featured in the flowers, stationery and cake we chose.  Colour wise, we opted for a background of navy blue with lots of different spring colours in our flowers.

My wedding dress was ‘Ali’ by Augusta Jones, quite a vintage style with lots of lace and a diamante belt, from a boutique shop in Shropshire.  I accessorised with a bunch of colourful spring flowers from Rolands in Rawtenstall.

.

The bridesmaids chose long navy blue flowing dresses from Debenhams which we customised with brooch detail where the dress gathered at the front.
