This morning’s real wedding takes place at Saltmarshe Hall in Yorkshire, a stunning venue at which we host our Luxury Wedding Shows, so if you like what you see, pencil in Sunday 9th April to view this beautiful building for yourselves during our next event.
But for now, let’s enjoy reliving the gorgeous big day of Mark and Nicola, which featured a pretty pink, lavender and antique cream colour scheme, elegant shabby chic touches and incredibly dreamy floral arrangements.

nicola says: Mark proposed to me at our favourite restaurant, Winteringham Fields, when I was eight months pregnant. It’s a fine dining restaurant, where he organised a private room and we stayed in a suite. The ring came out under a cloche during a nine-course tasting menu, which was amazing food. Mark got on one knee and proposed, I said yes but the kitchen staff who were watching on a CCTV camera were unsure whether I had, and dare not come back in the room, which was quite funny.
We married on the 24th June 2016. We chose the date as it we wanted to marry early summer and hoped for some nice weather, which we got!
Our venue was an amazing privately-owned stately Georgian home called Saltmarshe Hall in East Yorkshire. It is quite a new venue; the family have just finished renovating it and actually live there during the week. We chose the venue as the grounds and house were amazing and we literally fell in love with it and didn’t look anywhere else.
We were married by a registrar but then the vicar from our local village, who is a family friend, gave us a religious blessing in the gardens after we formally married, which was nice.
We didn’t have a specific theme for the wedding, we just went for a classic and traditional style with our own personal touches. Our colour scheme was soft shades of pink/lavender and antique cream.
My wedding dress was from It’s Bliss Bridal & Prom Wear in Doncaster. The design was a classic style with corset bodice, organza skirt with pearl and crystal detailing, which I wore with a full-length veil.

It’s time to forget about the cold and miserable weather that we’ve been having as we brighten up your Friday morning with this fun and fabulous styled shoot.
Captured by Yorkshire-based photographer Chloé Grayson of Fox & Owl Photography, the shoot provides perfect inspiration for any laid-back and boho brides out there who crave a vibrant outdoor wedding in natural, rustic surroundings.
We love the lively tropical hints and bold splashes of colour showing how bright hues can be incorporated into a wedding in a beautiful, rather than brash way.
Here with all the details on the styling and the full team behind the shoot is photographer Chloé…

chloe says: We teamed up with a bunch of very inspirational local vendors for this shoot, who all worked incredibly hard organising and carrying out preparations. As a group, we wanted to put together a styled shoot that was bold, full of colour and a lot of fun – we quickly opted for a summery ‘fiesta in the woods’ theme that would provide the perfect inspiration for any laid-back brides out there.
With an intimate three acres of woodland in Leeds, unique venue Applewood Weddings provided us with the perfect backdrop for this outdoor wedding shoot. We made the most of the venue’s woodland walks, ceremony area, cocktail shed and decking. The way-finding signage pictured throughout the shoot was also the perfect way for us to tell the ’story’ of the day in a more coherent manner.
The fiesta look is quite laid-back and is the perfect theme for adding splashes of bright primary colours amongst more traditional and neutral tones. Stylists, Whimsical Events adorned the trees with festive crepe streamers and hand-made tissue paper pom-poms that bounced around excitedly in the wind.
Applewood’s cocktail shed and decking area were dressed up with more of these pom-poms as well as fruity paper pineapples. Little details were important too. A string of pink Flamingo fairy lights injected some light-hearted fun into back of the shed. Both the bar and tables were decorated with vibrant food objects and party cocktails.
Not for the traditional, our three-tier cake boasted every colour of the rainbow. The eccentric base, which looked like it had been caught in the middle of a paint party, juxtaposed with an elegant top tier arrangement of icing flowers and ribbons. Taking on bespoke projects to match clients’ personalities, Debbie Gillespie Cake Design is no stranger to unconventional requests and here is the evidence.
Our woodland fiesta was further beautified by the wildly romantic British flowers; locally grown, cut and arranged by Owl House Flowers. Organic, colourful and relaxed in style, the bouquet and arrangements fit in with the theme just perfectly.

Today’s real wedding takes place at the gorgeous The Black Swan hotel, one of our beautiful Brides Up North Sponsor venues, and so when Andrea talks about it being an amazing venue, we know exactly what she means.
To fit in with their roots and the idyllic setting for their big day, Andrea and Steve chose to have a pretty garden themed wedding, complete with a simple white and green colour scheme.
We love the relaxed drinks reception in the hotel’s pretty gardens and the gorgeous shots of the newlyweds in the surrounding countryside, which ties the whole day together beautifully.
Oh, and if you want to see more of The Black Swan, watch out for a stunning styled shoot at the hotel, coming up on the wedding blog this afternoon.

andrea says: Steve popped the question on the evening of 29th November 2014. We had tickets to see Passenger at the O2 Academy that night and had gone for a pre-gig drink in a champagne bar in Leeds called Epernay on Great George Street. An unforgettable evening!
We got married on 23rd May 2015. After narrowing down our venues it was a case of what availability they had, we couldn’t believe our luck when the bank holiday weekend was still available so we plumped for that. As we were having the ceremony and reception under the one roof and it wasn’t our hometown, the bank holiday gave our guests a chance to make a weekend of it with us.
Our wedding venue was The Black Swan in Helmsley, North Yorkshire. It is just amazing! The staff, the area, the food, the accommodation and just the general feeling and atmosphere of the place. We can’t thank the staff enough, they were exceptional and looked after us all so well.
The theme just evolved. As Steve is from Lancashire and I’m from Yorkshire the roses seemed an obvious choice, although my white rose seemed to prevail over the red of Lancashire! Steve designed our logo that was printed on all the stationary and favours. The Black Swan has a great garden area to the rear and the wedding room is called the Garden Room so I suppose all in all it was a garden theme if any.
In keeping with the theme we had a simple colour scheme of white and green.
My dress was from Alison Jane Bridal in Mirfield, West Yorkshire. It was a Grecian style gown by Alexia Designs, with crystal detailing. Steve loves my back, so a backless dress was a design I chose.
We chose Georgina Brewster Photography, based in Skipton, North Yorkshire, to capture our day and we love our photos! We’ve had so many comments from our friends about them too. Georgina really captured every element so well, she is so personable and really went that extra mile by whisking us away at sunset to a location she had spotted on her drive over. We would highly recommend Georgina to any couple tying the knot. Amazing!
In terms of flowers on the day we had avalanche roses, freshias and vintage roses, which were all from Busy Liz’s Floral Design in Kirbymoorside.
Our favours were napkins with our guests’ names embroidered on the corner. We also gave raspberry and Chambord jam by Woody’s Preserves in Yorkshire.
Jo’s Cakes in Honley created our gorgeous three tiered iced cake of vanilla and chocolate sponge.
For entertainment we hired a pianist called Joseph Barton, to perform. The venue’s recommended musician wasn’t available that day and Joe was mentioned to us. We are so glad we chose him.
To add to the evening reception, we also hired some giant illuminated ‘love’ letters, which we placed in the garden. They were supplied by Fabulously Finished, near York.
We would most definitely recommend The Black Swan to other brides and grooms-to-be. They provide such great service and hospitality with a relaxed atmosphere. The food is exceptional too!
I can’t pin point one particular aspect of the day as my favourite as I loved all of it! It was so magical from start to finish.
For our honeymoon we travelled to Iceland, a place we were both keen to explore. We share a great love for the outdoors and when time allows we participate in triathlons to test ourselves. We had a wonderful time.
My top tip to other Brides Up North would be simply to relax and enjoy every minute. The day really does go by so fast.
