Brides Up North

Hey Princess? It’s The Brides Up North Luxury Wedding Exhibition At Allerton Castle! And It’s THIS SUNDAY!

March 1st, 2014 | Julia Braime

Brides Up North Luxury Wedding Exhibition at Allerton Castle Spring 2014

Here at Brides Up North HQ I really do believe that our independent luxury wedding exhibitions are the very best.  Why?  Because, when putting together the very best exhibitors at the very best venues I put myself in your shoesIf I was getting married all over again, who would I want to be involved in supplying services at my wedding?  Consider these events my very own personal recommendation.  You are welcome!

Last Sunday’s event at Hardwick Hall Hotel really did get the season off to an absolutely cracking start, with over 200 lovely brides and their grooms, bridesmaids, friends and family in attendance (that’s almost 1,000 people through the doors… they’ll be needing new carpets soon)!  The venue was bursting with colour, beauty and wedding inspiration, and our catwalks were fun and fabulous too.

How better to follow that one up than glorious state rooms of the absolutely knock em’ dead venue that is Allerton Castle

Each venue in our handpicked portfolio of events is completely different and entirely special, and I can’t wait to welcome you all to Allerton Castle this coming Sunday 2nd March 2014, 12pm till 4pm, FREE entry, and see what the day holds in store.

Yes, completely free!  Again, no worries!

Real Wedding Recap Summer 2013: Peony Pink! A Real Wedding In Yorkshire – Michelle & Jon

June 18th, 2013 | Julia Braime

.

Its holiday season here on the blog, and as the team take a break until to rest and recharge for the second half of what’s set to be the biggest and best year year yet at Brides Up North HQ, we’ll be leaving you with a reduced blogging schedule so that you still get your daily dose of wedding pretty.

.

Usual service will recommence on 1st July 2013,  but in the meantime watch out for recaps of our favourite Real Weddings so far in 2013, plenty of eye candy, new features that we won’t be able to wait to share, some special supplier showcases and a couple of surprises too!

.

.

Yorkshire Wedding by Damian Hall Photography

.

.

As soon as this beautiful Real Wedding landed in my inbox, courtesy of Brides Up North Featured Supplier Damian Hall Photography, I got to blogging!  First shared back on Valentine’s Day this year, I couldn’t wait to spread the love with the prettiest pink peonies, the finest of details and the widest of smiles which really make this elegant and romantic country house wedding one to write home about.

.

Just blissful.

Michelle says:  We got engaged in July 2010 at the beautiful Great John Street Hotel in Manchester and we were married on Saturday 19th May 2012 at St Oswalds Church in Askrigg, Yorkshire Dales and had our reception at Yorebridge House, Bainbridge, Yorkshire Dales.

As soon as we arrived at Yorebridge House we fell in love with the boutique hotel. The setting is picture perfect with its beautiful and stylish décor, intimate surroundings and amazing food we knew it was perfect. The best thing was having the entire hotel to ourselves from the moment we arrived on the Friday evening till we checked out on the Sunday morning.

.

We chose an elegant and romantic country wedding theme, with a colour scheme of ivory and pale pink.

I chose ‘Susanna’ by Lyn Ashworth from Choola in Eccleshall, Sheffield. My dress was simply beautiful with a strapless lace bodice and a full silk and organza skirt. In the evening I added a sash to my dress that matched my bridesmaid dresses to make it look a little different.  My gorgeous headdress was by HF Couture.

.

.

Damian Hall Photography

.

.

My bridesmaids wore full length Dessy dresses in persian plum from White Lace & Promises in Slaithwaite, West Yorkshire. My flower girl wore an ivory dress from John Lewis.

We travelled in a silver Bentley Continental Flying Spur from Beaus & Belles.  Our favourite part of the day was getting in the wedding car straight after the ceremony and going for some photographs in the most amazing locations, whilst sipping Veuve Clicquot!

.

.

Damian Hall Photography

.

.

My flowers – by Mat at Red Floral Architecture – determined the time of year we got married as my favourite flowers are Peonies. I carried a bouquet full of ivory peonies with crystal and pearl detail and my bridesmaids carried bouquets of pale pink peonies with matching pearl detail. My table decorations were masses of pale pink peonies set on tall candelabras with ivory pearls hanging from the candelabras.

We had a signature board with a picture from our pre wedding shoot (arranged through our photographer) for guests to write messages on instead of using a guest book. We had a wedding wish tree where guests hung their well wishes and advice for us to read. Our sweet shop proved very popular and looked really pretty after collecting different vintage jars from our travels.

My top tip for other would be that feeling relaxed and comfortable with your photographer is paramount as they play such an important role on your wedding day with the planning and organisation needed. Our photographer Damian Hall Photography and his Wife Charlotte were amazing, they really made our day extra special and made us enjoy every minute of our wedding day. Their work really does speak for itself; we have the most amazing Queensbury Album that we will enjoy looking at for years to come.

BEWARE! Did YOU Have A Booth Revolution At Allerton Castle?

February 23rd, 2013 | Julia Braime

Booth Revolution

.

Tell me it isn’t just a week since the fabulous Brides Up North Luxury Wedding Exhibition at Allerton Castle?  The mind boggles! After every one of our events it’s right on to planning the next here at Brides Up North HQ, with barely enough time to pause for breath or a quick cuppa (ok, so we do manage to fit in a few cuppas)!

.

Right now, we are all about tomorrow’s huge North East Bridal Bonanza at Hardwick Hall Hotel – the team are busy filling our VIP Bride-To-Be Goody Bags as we speak, actually – have you registered for yours yet?

.

.

Hardwick Hall Wedding Fair Spring 2013

.

.

But, that’s tomorrow’s fun.  For now, let’s grab one of those cuppas, put our feet up and have a laugh at the poor unsuspecting souls who strayed into the funky and fabulous Booth Revolution photo booth at last week’s event.

.

Were YOU caught on camera?! My readers are the best…

.

See you tomorrow!

The Life & Times Of A Wedding Blogger: Behind The Blog

January 19th, 2013 | Julia Braime

.

Wow.  It’s been an action packed couple of months behind the scenes here at Northern Revolution HQ.  A busy, but fabulous blur, with a blink and you’ll miss it family Christmas.  I’m still catching my breath from 2012 as we forge ahead with our best laid plans (and some exciting new challenges) this month. Have you checked out our action packed Brides Up North Luxury Wedding Exhibition schedule, starting at Allerton Castle on Sunday 17th February?!  Click the big pink banner at the top of the page!

.

As well as the usual action packed writing, work and events schedule, whilst everyone else was hibernating we’ve thrown in the launch of a rather fabulous stately pile and brand new wedding venue at Thorp Perrow in North Yorkshire, styled some beautiful Brides Up North inspiration shoots, submitted a raft of freelance articles for the biggest and best regional and national bridal titles, completed a spot of judging for The Wedding Industry Awards and The Wedding Ideas Magazine Awards, welcomed some fabulous new Featured Suppliers to our Directory, packed up and shipped out for a long overdue huge home and office move to the (currently in a state of drilling, painting and dodgy server disarray) new Brides Up North HQ and the most important job of all: been cooking this brand new baby!

.

Something tells me that the next few months are going to be the most interesting of all… eep! I am so excited.

We survived apocalypse (and Mum’s trifle) – so lets blearily prise open our glitter heavy lids and welcome in this brand New Year with a bang!  Whether you just slipped your sparkler onto that ring finger (Congratulations you!) or are preparing to say I do imminently: it’s all to play for, and I can promise you another – bigger and better – 12 months of gorgeous weddings, helpful features, supplier showcases, diary dates, inspiration galore and of course, some very special collaborations and surprises here on these swirly silver pages.

.

It’s pretty, it’s useful and it’s local to you.  And it’s coming right up.  Welcome to the Northern Revolution!

.

I’ve spent a lovely Christmas break relaxing with friends and family, catching my breath after a whirlwind year (if you are just joining the party then you can read all about a busy 2012 here, find out all about me here and about the wedding blog in general here) and preparing for a fast paced start to 2013.

.

As well as getting ready to welcome our first Brides Up North baby – currently cooking nicely! – welcoming a new member of staff to the team, putting the finishing touches to a raft of freelance bridal features and planning some rather snazzy tweaks to this here website (coming soon!), I’ve been up to my ears in packing boxes as we get ready to ship out to our brand new home and Brides Up North’s sparkly new headquarters in a few days’ time.  Phew.  After all, if you don’t do it all at once, why do it at all?*

.

*Not advised

.

I’ve adored recapping some of my very favourite Real Weddings from 2012 on the wedding blog over the last week or so – there was a whole lot of stunning going on last year!  If you’ve had a break from your computer screens over the last 10 days then why not take some time to catch up.  Inspiration overload!

.

And you know what? I think things are only going to get prettier around these parts in 2013.  I already have an inbox busting with beautiful submissions that I can’t wait to share with you.  Come to think of it, the packing can wait!

.

.

.

.

We are also looking ahead to a full season of Brides Up North bridal events – across three regions this season – at painstakingly selected partner venues packed with the very best of each area’s bridal supplier talents.  What these people and places can add to YOUR big day is unfathomable, and it’s all there and waiting for you.

.

I LOVE meeting our readers in real life – and have so many tips, hints and recommendations up my sleeve to share with you in person – so make sure to diarise at least one of our free entry (yep, you read that right) Luxury Wedding Exhibitions this season and come along to say hello.  If you can’t make an event, make sure to check out our Directory of the regions’ finest too.

I want to share in your day and help to inspire tens of thousands of other brides to be across the North of the UK and the wider web. Click here to see some of the most recent beauties on the blog. Before we say goodbye until tomorrow when the usual twice daily blogging schedule resumes with gusto and I let you get back to whatever you should be doing this first morning back in the office (I know, I’d make planning your wedding a salaried role too, but they just haven’t caught on upstairs yet) make sure that today is the day that you click through and join our community over on Twitter and Facebook.  I can’t always fit all the newest news and offers from my Featured Suppliers into a blog post, so that’s where you’ll find all the hottest gossip first.  Plus plenty of extra pretty, musings and tips.  Go, go, go!

.

I’d also love to encourage even more interactivity here on the blog pages in 2013 too.  Never feel shy to leave a comment on a post, ask a Featured Supplier a question at the end of an interview, tell our real brides exactly what you loved about their wedding, track down where items were sourced from or just say hello.  It’s dead easy and we are all ears.  This is YOUR blog, so get the discussion going!

.

To start you off, why not leave a comment on this post to tell us about your wedding plans in 2013, your perfect proposal or simply say hola!  I’d LOVE to hear from you.

.

Happy New Year!

Real Wedding Recap 2012: New York, North Yorks! A Real Wedding At Allerton Castle, North Yorkshire – Antony & Kristy

December 29th, 2012 | Julia Braime

.

Over the festive period I’ll be recapping some of my very favourite Real Weddings from the last 12 months on the wedding blog. It’s been a tough choice! In true Brides Up North style, each wedding featured on these pages is unique, beautiful and gorgeously personal. It’s been an exceptionally fabulous year! Enjoy…

.

Chris Chambers Photography at Allerton Castle

.

.

If you are in any doubt about why you should visit one of our Brides Up North Luxury Wedding Fairs at Allerton Castle in 2013, then Kristy and Antony’s beautiful Real Wedding by one of our exhibitors, Chris Chambers Photography should make your mind up for you.  Like the venue itself, their big day was simply stunning.

.

Wedding at Allerton Castle by Chris Chambers Photography

Kristy says:  Antony proposed on New Years Day 2011 at the top of the Rockefeller Centre in New York with a jelly sweet ring and we were married on 30th June 2012 at Allerton Castle, North Yorkshire.

.

.

.

We were blown away with the grand presence of the building both inside and out. The moment we saw the grand hall and stunning staircase we knew this was our perfect venue. It actually brought tears to our eyes and we were overwhelmed.  It was an important factor to consider the weather may not be perfect and we knew Allerton Castle could accommodate all weathers.

.

.

Chris Chambers Photography

.

.

We based our theme around New York and the colour was based on a Tiffanys box where my engagement ring came from. We made a conscious effort to bring New York into our day without being NYC over the top.

.

.

Chris Chambers Photography

.

.

Antony was surprised by the NYC Yellow Cab from Hi-Life. He and his groomsmen travelled in style whilst the girls and I got ready at Allerton Castle, with hair and make-up by Debonnesse.

My dress was bespoke; I had very clear ideas of how I wanted the dress to look. Suzanne Neville designed and created my dream dress.

.

The bridesmaids wore Dessy dresses in Spa, with matching shoes. The flower girl and page boy wore ivory to compliment my wedding dress.

.

The groomsmen wore light grey suits from Next with spa ties and handkerchiefs.

.

Antony choose to have a bespoke suit made in total contrast to the groomsmen’s suits. This was made my Michelsberg Tailors.

.

Seeing my father’s reaction when he saw me in my dress for the first time was a memory I will cherish forever. Chris captured this moment perfectly and it brings a tear not only to my eyes but to everyone that sees it.

Antony in particular loves the moment he turned to see me coming down the stairs.

Allerton Castle Wedding Fair

I carried a bouquet of Picasso calla lilies with a matching button hole for Antony.  The bridesmaids wore wrist corsages of roses and the other buttonholes were roses too.  We choose the Picasso calla for our candelabras and service flowers and the deep purple complimented the Tiffany blue perfectly.  All our flowers were by Firenza Floral Design

I chose to wear my grandmother’s wedding ring as my wedding ring. Sadly my grandmother passed away some years ago. The ring was dipped in platinum to match my engagement ring.

We had a mini moon to Sorrento, Italy to relax and reflect our magical day.  Our honeymoon is to Los Angeles, San Francisco, Las Vegas and New York.

.

.

My top tip for other Brides Up North would be to relax on the day, enjoy every second of it together and take in as much as possible.  Do not get stressed, if things go wrong laugh about it. Remember the reason you are there it’s about two people who love each other and want to get married sharing their day with friends and family. Nobody is bothered if things go wrong after all we are all human!

.

Nothing can spoil your day not even the bad British weather. The crazy weather we experienced was actually a plus and delivered the most amazing photos we could never have dreamt of by our brilliant photographer Chris Chambers Photography.

Congratulations Kristy & Antony!
