Makin’ Rainbows. A Cute & Colourful Styled Wedding Shoot In Northumberland

February 28th, 2014 | Julia Braime

Adamskii Photography for Emma Bunting at Alnwick Garden

On Monday I featured an ethereal and romantic styled shoot showing off the gorgeous designs of Claire Pettibone at The Alnwick Garden (want to see? Click here to catch up).  Now it seems that the team involved are so skilled that they had time to turn the day on it’s head and produce a second shoot – something completely different – to show off Brides Up North Featured Supplier Emma Bunting’s skills (she makes beautiful bunting, like her name suggests)!

Bright, bold, a little whimsical and a lot of colourful.  I talk about talent all the time here at Brides Up North, but it just goes to show that whatever your style, these wedding professionals have it covered.

Let’s infuse this Friday morning with rainbows!

Emma says:  I was given permission to use The Alnwick Garden whilst it was closed to the public to shoot Emma Bunting’s new Rainbow range. I wanted a fun and slightly offbeat look for a relaxed bride and groom – I think we achieved that with the look of our models and the quirky style.

I hope you like our colourful creations and pick up some bright and beautiful ideas for your own big day.

Emma Bunting and her team will be exhibiting at The Brides Up North Luxury & Vintage Wedding Exhibition at The Alnwick Garden on Sunday 18th May 2014. A beautiful, excusive event in an extraordinary setting.  Closing our spring season for 2014, it’s set to be a magical day.  Be inspired! The Wedding That Rocked! A Real Wedding At The Alnwick Garden – Sarah & Dave

August 19th, 2013 | Julia Braime

Alnwick Garden Luxury Wedding Exhibition September 2013

It’s insanely busy at Brides Up North HQ at the moment as we finalise plans for our autumn season of Luxury Wedding Exhibitions.  We’ve got eight marvellous shows coming up this time around, and right across three regions too.  Make sure to put one of these in your diary.

We start the season in under a fortnight’s time (I’ve blinked and missed the Summer) at the extraordinary venue that is The Alnwick Garden, Northumberland.  I first became aware of this gorgeous and unique spot via submissions to the blog, and it was when I first blogged this Real Wedding back in 2012 that I knew this venue was something special.  When they invited me to work with them earlier on this year, I couldn’t start planning fast enough!  I’m not really into reposting (we keep things fresh here at Brides Up North) but it’s beautiful, it’s timely and aren’t the best things in life always worth a reprise?

You can pre-register for FREE entry and your VIP Bride To Be Welcome Pack on Sunday 1st September 2013 by clicking here.

I’m recovering this morning after an absolutely fabulous first Brides Up North event of the season at the gorgeous Allerton Castle yesterday.  Thank you so much to all our wonderful suppliers for making the day so, so special (you really are Yorkshire’s finest) and to all you beautiful brides to be who came along en gorgeous masse to soak up the inspiration, see the stunning venue and say hello!

.

I think I love you.

If you missed it, click here to see a list of our upcoming events.  Don’t miss out.

In fact, there’s a lorra lorra love in the air this week post Valentine’s day (hello new readers, and welcome! I’ll drop the Cilla Black, I promise!), and as usual the wedding blog is just bursting with it (love, not Cilla impressions).  Today we join Brides Up North reader Natalie and her new husband David at the lovely Alnwick Garden in Northumberland, for a pretty vintage influenced Christmas wedding that brought the outdoors in.  And would you check out that DIY cake?!  Impressive stuff.

Natalie says:  We got engaged on the 18th December 2008 in New York. After going for a helicopter ride we decided to go ice skating by the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree. With Christmas music playing, we stood by the tree, he began telling me how he will always love me, and he got down on one knee.

We were married on 8th December 2012 on our six year anniversary at Alnwick Garden.  From being a little girl I had always wanted to marry in a secret garden – somewhere full of magic and true beauty. Alnwick Garden is the magical venue I’d always dreamt of: flowers growing, twinkled lights, a treehouse, a castle, a place where the beauty of outside was visible from within.  We chose a vintage theme with just a hint of Christmas, with a colour scheme of minks, pinks, ivories and browns.

I had two dresses for my wedding. My day time dress was purchased from The Wedding Wardrobe in Chester-le-Street and it was a sweetheart neckline, lace, fish tail, Farage dress. My second dress was a bespoke vintage tea length, v neck, lace wedding dress.

I carried a mixture of vintage toned roses, white poppies, frosty foliage and pinecones by Bels Flowers.

My bridesmaid dresses were from M&S and the flower girls wore dresses from Monsoon.

From the whole day my favourite part was arriving at the venue, I walked down the aisle with my dad, and David had his back to me. The moment when he turned around to see me with tears in his eyes, it truly was the best moment in my entire life. To know that even though we were in a room full of people, it felt like no one else was there, we were in our own, confessing our love for one another.

Since we got engaged by a Christmas tree in New York it seemed only appropriate that we would marry by the huge tree in the Gardens. On our engagement holiday in New York we purchased a beautiful red bauble which opened up on a clasp. I decided to line the bauble inside, place our rings inside and hang it from the tree on our wedding day.  As we reached out together to get our rings, I felt it signified that we would go on in our journey in life together, full of joy, and many many surprises.

I choose a vintage style cake to go along with our theme. It was made up of vintage coloured roses, ivory ribbons and lace.  I made the cake myself.

We’re going on our honeymoon in June. We’re going to Canada for five nights, then flying to San Francisco for two nights, driving to Monetary Bay and staying for three nights, then back to our engagement destination in New York. It should be a real adventure.

My top tip for other Brides Up North would be to take a moment to take in all the special moments from the day. For example, the way you looked at one another, the words of wisdom from your friends, the hugs and kisses you had the night before because you knew you wouldn’t see each other until the next day. All in all it’s the special moments in life and your love for one another that really counts.

Congratulations Natalie & David!

Real Wedding Recap 2012: The Wedding That Rocked! A Real Wedding In The North East – Sarah & Dave

December 28th, 2012 | Julia Braime

.

Over the festive period I’ll be recapping some of my very favourite Real Weddings from the last 12 months on the wedding blog. It’s been a tough choice! In true Brides Up North style, each wedding featured on these pages is unique, beautiful and gorgeously personal. It’s been an exceptionally fabulous year! Enjoy…

Now, I know I say this a lot (pretty much every time I open my inbox), but today’s Real Wedding sent to me by North East Wedding photographer Phil Smith Photography and real bride Sarah has to be one of the most gorgeous big days that I. HAVE . EVER. SEEN.  I just love it all, from the vinyl table names to the heart shaped balloons to the bride’s beautiful birdcage veil.

.

Sarah and Dave: your wedding truly rocked.

Sarah says:  We got engaged on 27th July 2010. Dave took me out for my birthday for a meal but had booked a suite in a nice hotel on the Quayside in Newcastle Upon Tyne as a surprise. He tried to get me to go for a walk so he could propose on one of the bridges after the meal but I had eaten too much and just wanted to lie down, ha ha!

.

Luckily he had booked a suite which had a full glass wall overlooking the whole Quayside so he got down on one knee in front of the view and I was so excited, it was totally unexpected. I said yes immediately and cried!

We were married on 29th June 2012 at The Alnwick Garden in Northumberland.  Neither of us had been before and we had gone to look at the Castle as a possible venue and they told us we could get married in the gardens too if we wanted to have a look while we were there so we did. As soon as we walked in we both turned to each other and said “this is it!”.

.

We chose a bright garden theme to match the venue and incorporated our love of music. Very muted greys and ivory outfits but then really bright exotic flowers and décor to set them off.

I chose a wedding dress called Lizana by La Sposa from Darcy’s in Morpeth.  It was strapless with a fitted long bodice and a mermaid kick out at the bottom, no bling just nice fabric detail and a little edgy like me!  I had emerald green shoes with custom made shoe brooches under my dress.

.

My bridesmaids wore strapless floor length gunmetal grey dresses from Debenhams.

.

Our necklaces, my veil, jewelled hair combs, shoe brooches, and wish box were all custom made by Kathryn Russell.

Our friend Ben (the singer in Dave’s band) sang an acoustic version of “Grow Old With You” from The Wedding Singer during our ceremony.

.

.

.

.

We wrote our own vows and didn’t show each other so they would be a surprise on the day. Dave totally blew me away with the emotion he showed and his words were perfect despite having to pause a few times to compose himself. He had the whole room in tears and he made me feel like marrying me meant the world to him as he is not usually an emotional guy.

.

.

Phil Smith Photography

.

.

We decorated the venue ourselves using giant flowers that used to be part of the NewLook summer window display!  I went round all the North East NewLook stores to ask if I could have them the year before and they were donated to the gardens after the wedding to use for charity event.

We had music themed table names on vinyls and made badges which were put onto handmade rosettes which said “This Wedding Rocks” and were used as napkin ties.

We also had a remembrance table with candles to remember those who couldn’t be with us (especially my Dad) – my Mum gave me away.

Our friend’s band – The Monologues – were amazing and kept us entertained all night long!  We made our own playlists for ceremony, wedding breakfast and in between band sets.

.

We learned a special dance and had a few lessons prior to the wedding to make our first dance perfect.

.

In the evening we also had Pop Up Studios, with props and blackboards for our guests to write messages on for us to go into a guestbook album.

.

.

Phil Smith Photography

.

.

After the wedding we jetted off to Thailand: Bangkok three nights, Chaing Mai five nights and Koh Phi Phi Island for the last ten! Amazing!

.

.

Phil Smith Photography

.

.

My top tips for other Brides Up North would be don’t get hung up on the little things, if there is something you cant afford to do or a piece of décor you cant get hold of no-one will know it isn’t there except you! Also try to steal away some time to spend with your husband after the ceremony, it’s a big deal and you should reflect and share the special moments of the day together away from the crowds. Because of our venue our photographer had lots of places to take us around the site for photos and because of his unobtrusive and relaxed style he did a lot of the shots at a distance which gave me and Dave the chance to chat and take it all in away from everyone else. We really treasure this time we had together.

.

.

Congratulations Sarah & Dave!
