Welcome to Tuesday Brides Up North!  No “it’s only the middle of the month and the overdraft is maxed on wedding paraphernalia” dreariness here!  No way Jose!

.

Only the stunningly beautiful Real Wedding of North East couple Stephanie & Martin, with images by Andrew Billington Photography.  Crisp, cool and romantic, Stephanie and Martin’s big day is contemporary, fresh and oh so lovely

Stephanie says:  We stayed at a romantic farm cottage in Hexham on New Years Eve 2010 – Martin proposed outside of the cottage before we went out for the evening.

We were married on 23rd August 2012 at Eshott Hall, Northumberland.  It was exactly what I had imagined for us. It’s a period building with lots of character but intimate and smaller than other Halls I had been to. It felt very special.

We opted for a simple colour scheme of ivory, pink and white.  I chose a lace over tulle San Patrick wedding dress with spaghetti straps and a heart shaped bust, from Wendy Coles Bridal in Monkwearmouth.

.

My bridesmaids wore coral rose coloured full length strapless dresses from Coast and the boys wore suits from French Connection

My sister, Lisa McNamara, who is a hairdresser based in Boldon did my ‘do.

I carried a hand tied bouquet of roses in dusty pink and ivory by Jan Watters, East Boldon.

Aurora Strings played during the day on the lawn and we chose Jason Issacs – a fabulous swing singer – to sing in the evening.

We had a very special guest – an RAF Sea King helicopter!  It was a flyover from RAF Boulmer as Martin is a Search & Rescue helicopter pilot.

The food at Eshott was fabulous, and I loved getting married on the stairs below the stained glass window – it felt really special and different to any wedding I had been to.

Our cake was a combination of two tiers of fruit & one sponge decorated with pink icing roses, made by Martins grandparents who are (handily!) retired bakers.  We also chose a cake of cheese – bought from Fenwick’s food hall, Newcastle.

Martin made flight tickets for the guests and the destinations were places we had either been or were going to on our honeymoon, and they were the names of the tables.

.

We also left postcards of the places on the tables so that people could write us a special message and the beers on the table matched the table names – e.g. Phuket table had Chang beer & the Barcelona table had San Miguel beer etc!

There were a few favourite moments for me.  Martin did a rhyming speech which was hilarious and Martin’s brother sang during the ceremony which was really special.

After the wedding we took a long honeymoon and travelled around Thailand for three weeks.

My top tip for other Brides Up North would be to stay true to what you originally want for your wedding – don’t be swayed by expensive stuff and extras that you don’t really need.

Strip The Willow! A Real Wedding – Suhaine & Malcolm

August 19th, 2011 | Julia Braime

.

Grab your partners , for friend of the wedding blog Andrew Billington Photography has sent in this sunshine smiles, detail filled, ceilidh dancing .  And there are men in kilts.  ‘nuff said.

.

As a side note, Suhaine made all the bouquets, button holes and decorated the venue herself on the morning of her wedding…WOW! Wonder Woman or what?! She probably deserves to be putting her feet up in this first shot…

Andrew Billington Photography talks us through it: Suhaine and Malcolm got married in July at the Hexham Winter Gardens.  It was the venue that made it for me. Being a school everything had that slightly worn look which tied in perfectly with the vintagey theme of the day. I’m told the venue was a Spa Hotel at some point in it’s past and the wedding breakfast took place in what was the Solarium – beautiful wooden floors with massive windows allowing it to flood with light.  Suhaine is an event organiser in her day job and had organised the decoration of the Winter Gardens with military precision – bunting was flown, fairy lights threaded around the room to twinkle in the evening, handmade table plans and flower decorations set up.

The previous day Suhaine had been to the flower market and bought boxes of flowers so she could decorate the tables and venue – plus she spent part of the wedding morning making the button holes, bridesmaids bouquets and her own bouquet (with no signs of any panic I might add).

Suhaine and Malcolm wanted a very family orientated and relaxed wedding day which is probably why they chose me to photograph it – I like the day to flow and spend more time capturing the day as it unfolds rather than creating generic wedding images and lining people up.

Birds Of A Feather, A Real Wedding – Andy & Sally

July 26th, 2011 | Julia Braime

.

Brides Up North Wedding Blog: Andrew Billington Photography

.

.

As I said just this Saturday on the wedding blog, I am all for featuring all different kinds of weddings in these pages and refuse to be shoe-horned into one genre.  Today’s Real Wedding is Brides Up North Featured Supplier Andy Pickard Peacock Pix’s own, and would probably fall into the “offbeat” category.  However, when I came to blog this Andy’s wedding I realised that there was nothing offbeat about it.  In fact, it was so “onbeat” with Andy’s fun and kooky personality, it was untrue.

.

This wedding is quirky, it’s fun and it’s beautiful.  There’s a whole lot of peacock feathers, a whole load of inflatable guitars and a whole lorra love in these two amazing settings!  Fandabydosy!

Over to the groom: What  does a wedding photographer do when it’s comes to the point of realisation that they can’t shoot their own wedding?  Sally and I spent many hours searching the internet looking for that special person, someone who had the flair and romantic style to capture our unique peacock inspired wedding.  Andrew Billington Photography stood head and shoulders above all contenders with his fabulous eye and unmistakable style. Andy managed to capture every emotion filled moment with the decadent grandeur we envisioned when planning our once in a lifetime celebration.

We had planned a truly spectacular day from the pink Cadillac to the live rock band (Wild Turkey – Halifax’s premier party band)  and 100 inflatable guitars for all the budding air guitarists at our evening hog roast reception.

Sally designed her dress, made the bridesmaids’ jewellery, cake bands, table centres, hand fasting tie and also hand-embellished the invitations as well as sourcing many one of a kind hand crafted details such as her tiara, her bouquet of leather roses & peacock feathers, the Lego couple for the wedding cake and my wedding coat.

The two part ceremony – civil plus Pagan hand fasting – took place at Newstead Abbey, ancestral home of poet and playboy Lord Byron resplendent with with gothic architecture, sweeping grounds, lakes and (of course!) peacocks.

The venue also inspired our choice of wedding attire with velvet frock coat and frills for myself and Sally’s bespoke silk corseted dress featuring over 100 peacock feathers.

Forever Green Restaurant in Sherwood Forest supplied a magical secluded woodland setting for the hog roast reception and the party rocked on well into the night!
