The Editorials: Va-Va-Groom!

February 18th, 2013 | Brides Up North: UK Wedding Blog

.

Wedding Magazine

.

.

In this new blog series, The Editorials, I share my pre-published offline content, online.  I write on a freelance basis for numerous regional and National glossies, and rather than be relegated to being rather posh chip paper, I thought that my words might be useful to my online readers who didn’t manage to pick up a print copy of my features.  Double the pretty!

.

.

Wedding Magazine

.

.

The second instalment in this series (click here to see the first, focussing on the trend for all white weddings) catches up on a column I wrote for Wedding Magazine before Christmas, all about giving your groom some va-va-voom!

.

.

Wedding Magazine

.

.

I wrote: The days of identikit grooms are long gone. You might be preoccupied with selecting the perfect wedding gown, but you can bet that your other half is also giving some careful thought to his own wedding day look. For him too, this is a day where he wants raise the style stakes and feel that little bit special.

Luckily, there has never been more of a sartorial selection for a groom to choose from. Whether he is a traditionalist looking for a classically cut morning suit or an individual wanting to cut a dash with quirky accessories, it’s now acceptable for the groom to look beyond a hired waistcoat and cravat. Whilst it’s true that his choice of attire should complement the overall style of the bridal party, some of my favourite wedding day images are those where the personality of the groom shines through.

Top man

If he wants to keep his look classic, help him to stand out from the rest of the wedding party by choosing a different colour of tie or more elaborate buttonhole.

The cravat caveat

.

Rather than sticking to the status quo, encourage your man to mix things up with by adding a special touch. How about a colourful bow tie, socks, braces, sharp shoes or a neckerchief?

Keep it comfortable

.

For a relaxed celebration or destination wedding he needn’t be trussed up like a turkey. Work with the style of his surroundings and opt for light fabrics and a pale colour palette.

A man in uniform

If he’s decorated, this is his chance to show it off. I also love to see a groom in national dress: kilts at the ready boys, it’s time to show some leg!

Indulge him! If he has a need for speed, why not hire a cool car or vintage scooter to get him to the church on time and in style.

.

Brides Up North fabulous photographer Andrew Ward Photographer sure knows how to pack a punch of pure real wedding gorgeousness.  If you haven’t got this lovely man on your wedding photographer shopping list, you should be having a serious word with yourself.

.

Knocking this wedding blogger for six once again, with his follow up to Linzi and Kirk’s beautiful engagement shoot, today on the wedding blog he shares their Real Wedding.  A bit of a masterpiece, wouldn’t you agree?

.

.

Brides Up North Wedding Blog: Andrew Ward Photographer

.

.

Over to Andrew: A couple of weeks ago I had a great time photographing Kirk and Linzi’s fabulous
wedding.

.
The morning with Linzi was very calm until Linzi’s bridesmaids turned up, all eight of them, and things then began to change! Being a man I’m not really an expert on ladies shoes, however Linzi’s shoes looked awesome, and her dress was amazing, see for yourself!

Kirk and his entourage were getting ready a few minutes away and were all surprised when a vintage bus arrived to take them to the Salvation Army for the ceremony. This was a huge surprise, but was topped by Linzi’s parents arranging a Horse and Carriage for Linzi to be taken to the ceremony in style.

After the ceremony we all headed over to the Ricoh Arena, home of Kirk’s beloved Coventry City. We were even allowed to take a few shots on the hallowed turf.

Fabulous Photographer: Andrew Ward Photographer (Plus an Amazing Special Offer for the First 10 Brides Up North to Book!)

June 7th, 2011 | Brides Up North: UK Wedding Blog

.

This Brides Up North Featured Supplier was so busy sending me beautiful real weddings to feature on the the blog, that he almost forgot to chat to me too!  This friendly guy is all about the images.  It certainly shows in his work.

.

.

Andrew Ward Photography 2

.

.

I finally pinned the amazing Andrew Ward Photographer down to find out why wedding photography is his passion.

.

.

Andrew Ward Photographer 1

.

.

How did you get into wedding photography?

.

I have always loved photography. When I was little my first camera was one of those brick shaped Hanimex things that used 110 film (I even had a disc camera?!). I drove my parents mad filling up film with all kinds of random stuff!

.

I started out doing only studio portrait photography, you know the white background thing. Clients then started asking me if I would photograph their weddings and the rest as they say is history…

.

.

Andrew Ward Photography 3

.

.

Andrew Ward Photography 4

.

.

Why wedding photography?

.

It’s such a great thing to do, capturing through images the story of a couples’ special day. It’s such a privilege to be a part of it all!

.

.

Andrew Ward Photography 6

.

.

What is your favourite thing about being a wedding photographer?

.

From the initial meeting right through to them viewing their images for the first time, I love it all!

.

.

Andrew Ward Photography 7

.

.

Andrew Ward Photography 10

.

.

How do you get them relax on the day?

.

I meet with all of my couples several times before the wedding, to chat about the day. We really become like friends! The engagement shoot also helps, as it gives the couple a chance to see how I work and me a chance to see how they interact with each other.

.

.

Andrew Ward Photography 12

.

.

I have a calm and relaxed personality and hopefully this transfers in some way to my couples. On the big day they aren’t concerned about the camera, and come the time to shoot some lovely portraits of them together, they are really relaxed, which in turn gives such natural expressions. It’s great!

.

.

Andrew Ward Photography 16

.

.

What sort of make-up would you advise?

.

Whatever makes you comfortable. If you usually wear natural tones then go with that, if you wear stronger make up, go with that – just be you!

.

.

Andrew Ward Photography 5

.

.

What is your must have shot?

.

For me it’s the bride walking down the aisle, that is always a special moment. I also love to see the groom’s reaction when he sees his bride for the first time.

.

.

Andrew Ward Photography 9

.

.

What would you say to brides who don’t like having their photo taken?

.

Talk to me about it, and discuss what it is you don’t like. I will always work with you to ensue you look your very best. As I said before the engagement shoot is really good for building confidence. Some people are fine with looking into the lens others prefer to look at their new husband or wife. Whatever you prefer, we will work together to get the right images for you!

.

.

Andrew Ward Photography 24

.

.

Are you married?

.

Yes, I am married. I have been married to Helen for 13 years this year, and we have two brilliant boys, Thomas 7, and Samuel 2.

.

We got married at Holy Trinity Church in Coventry and our reception was at the wonderful Coombe Abbey.

Our photos were really good, we spent a lot of time looking for our photographer, one of the most important things for us, apart from liking the images was that we got on with the photographer, it made things so much easier on the day. We had a great day!

.

.

What sets you apart from other photographers?

.

I have a very calm and relaxed personality, and I hope this passes on to my clients. I strive to make my couples feel relaxed, which makes for photos that are full of natural expression and emotion.

I work really hard for my couples to make sure the images they receive are a fantastic record of their special day.

.

.

Andrew Ward Photography 23

.

.

Andrew Ward Photography 21

.

.

What can couples expect from you on the day?

.

I am there from getting ready through to the first dance. I will give 100% to make sure their day is captured beautifully. They will receive a set of fantastic images to treasure forever and when they look back on them they will relive every moment of their day.

.

.
