from arley hall with love: bond girl glamour for an opulent north west wedding – arlene & simon

November 16th, 2017 | Aislinn Thompson

An Opulent Wedding at Arley Hall (c) Cris Matthews (25)

Yes, we have a dress crush. Today’s bride Arlene wanted to look like a Bond girl on her big day and we reckon she absolutely nailed it in a gorgeous, backless Rosa Clará number with a graceful silhouette and divine vintage detailing on the shoulders and down the back. We also have garden envy, because the grounds at today’s venue, Arley Hall, would give any National Trust property a run for its money: deep borders bursting with colour and texture are juxtaposed with crisp topiary and rich red brickwork. The photographs offer up a visual feast.

In a colour scheme of navy and dusky pink, Arlene and Simon went for an elegant, regal feel with a touch of femininity to complement the glorious Elizabethan-style Victorian country house. With its opulent interiors, who could fail to feel a little bit Bond-esque?

arlene says: Simon proposed to me at home on August bank holiday in 2015, after more than six years together with bubbles, Bob Marley playing and a display of photographs of us on our fabulous holidays. We then went to Gaucho in Manchester for steak dinner and he had organised a surprise party with our close friends at Epernay. The next day I was whisked off to Moddershall Oaks for an overnight spa break.

We got married on Saturday 29th July 2017. We wanted a summer day and a weekend, as we have a lot of teacher friends. My dad flew over from Panama to walk me down the aisle and the date also worked well for my 11-year-old stepsister and her school holidays in Panama.

Our chosen venue was Arley Hall & Gardens, Cheshire. We had our ceremony in the drawing room, the wedding breakfast in the gallery and the reception at Olympia Barn on site. I visited the venue one afternoon with some friends, as it’s open to visitors. I fell in love instantly – butterflies! Simon loved it as much as I did. Arlene driving up Arley Road to marry at Arley Hall – it was meant to be!

We also liked the venue as it was local and had a good mix of rooms to use and stunning gardens. Plus, I liked the idea of having a more informal area for the evening guests to party.

An Opulent Wedding at Arley Hall (c) Cris Matthews (29)

I wanted a fairly simple, elegant, classy style for the day. The venue is so opulent that I didn’t want to take away from/spoil its beauty. We would definitely recommend the venue: as well as it being utterly gorgeous, the staff were professional and friendly and we felt reassured the day would run smoothly.

My gown was from Knutsford Wedding Gallery. I am quite particular with my style and wanted a unique dress. After searching bridal websites and magazines, I decided I liked Rosa Clará gowns and booked an appointment as I knew they were stocked there. I was very keen on a backless, slinky dress. My spec was I wanted to look and feel like a Bond girl! When I tried it on first I knew it was the one, but that didn’t stop me from trying on 29 more dresses. Milking the moment!

My hair and makeup artist was Make-up By Sophie, based in Oldham. She followed my Bond girl spec –my bridesmaids and I felt very glam.

roses & lace. pronovias for a timeless wedding at arley hall – charlotte & ross

October 25th, 2016 | Julia Braime

an-elegant-wedding-at-arley-hall-c-katie-sidell-photography-34

Charlotte and Ross (who was a great teenage friend of mine *waves!*) decided to go with a classic and traditional big day, complete with a church ceremony, black tie suits and a gorgeous lace gown (we approve Mr W!).

Roses were the flower of the day in elegant tones of cream and pink, which made up super pretty bouquets and adorned the pew ends and cake.

The result is an utterly gorgeous celebration that will certainly stand the test of time.

charlotte says: We got engaged in Central Park in New York. Ross proposed while we ice skating. I was so shocked but over the moon! We set the date of the wedding for 21st May 2016. We had our ceremony at the beautiful Great Budworth Church. Alec there was a fantastic vicar and made the ceremony so special! We then had our reception at Arley Hall & Gardens, Cheshire.

We went with a traditional look for the wedding with Ross wearing black tie and my dress was lace, which I wore with a cathedral style veil. I loved the look of the black and the ivory outfits together. Our flowers were all pastel colours and we love roses so they were the main flower.

Ross’s suit was a tailored Moss Bros black tie suit with matching black waistcoat and tie. The groomsmen wore tailored Ted Baker black tie suits.

fall in love. pumpkins & lace for a seasonal wedding at arley hall – heather & steve

August 15th, 2016 | Rachel Parry

An Autumnal Wedding at Arley Hall (c) Jessica O'Shaughnessy (21)

We’re kicking off your week with an exceptionally beautiful real wedding that started with a rather impressive proposal (top marks Steve!)

Taking place at Arley Hall in Cheshire, Heather and Steve’s big day features simple yet striking details, inspired by the cosy autumn season.

Cue pumpkin centrepieces, bright bouquets and a totally swoon-worthy lace dress…

With images by Jessica O’Shaughnessy Photography.

heather says: We got engaged on 8th September 2014, while at El Matador Beach, Malibu. After our first full day of our two-week holiday travelling around California, Steve told me to be ready for 5pm but wouldn’t say what the plan was. When ready, we proceeded to walk downstairs to the foyer of our hotel on Sunset Boulevard. The receptionist giggled, and we were met by a driver who took us to a limo. We were driven to El Matador Beach and Steve told me we were going for a picnic. We walked around looking for a perfect place to watch the sun set when Steve knelt down and popped the question. He handed me a round, white box with a purple ribbon and within side it was purple cookie with “will you marry me” on it. Naturally, I said yes. We turned around and there was a photographer Steve had booked to capture the moment. It was perfect.

We set the date for October 17th 2015, as we wanted an autumnal wedding and also for it to be on a Saturday.

An Autumnal Wedding at Arley Hall (c) Jessica O'Shaughnessy (27)

Our chosen setting was Arley Hall in Northwich, Cheshire. The hall had the option of a separate evening venue, which is something we wanted so evening guests felt completely part of the wedding and not thrown into the chaos from the day’s events. The hall and the grounds are gorgeous, and the history of the house makes it a fabulous backdrop for photographs.

As a nod to the season we had an autumnal “Fall in Love” theme, which included pumpkins, hessian and wood. There was no definite colour theme as we wanted a mixture of different hues.

An Autumnal Wedding at Arley Hall (c) Jessica O'Shaughnessy (19)

I didn’t have much luck when looking for dresses but after a day’s searching I found the one in the n the last shop we visited, Wedding Belles in Frodsham. When we arrived there was an Intuzuri event on that we were unaware of. We got there at 4.30pm and the event stopped at 5pm with the dresses being packed up as we looked so I couldn’t believe when I came across a dress that I had previously ripped out of a magazine and put in my wedding scrap book. The dress was floor length with a train, very fitted with lace full length sleeves. It was full Chantilly lace and had a low back to it. I also had a Chantilly, elbow length veil to match.

What’s On This Weekend? Quite A Lot Actually!

October 12th, 2012 | Julia Braime

.

Get ready for another bumper weekend of wedding inspiration people!  There are absolutely LOADS of bridal events across the regions this weekend, but  I have a few special shout outs this morning for some great bridal events brought to you by lovely people that I love to work with.

.

Even though I run my own branded (and rather brilliant, even if I do say so myself) wedding exhibitions, I still like to support my industry friends and colleagues who do the same for me – and plus, I get to bring you news of all the shows that you need to see.

.

First up, brand new Brides Up North Featured Supplier are holding a wedding fair this very Sunday 14th October at their lovely hotel in County Durham from 11am – 4pm, and it’s free entry too.  If you are still on a venue hunt, make sure to pop in and say hello to the team.

.

After that – hop in the car and hot foot it across to Belle Bridal Magazine’s White Wedding Wonder Show – at Sunderland AFC from 12pm – 4pm.  With 100 exhibitors, some fab goody bags (with Green & Blacks, Choccards, Paul Mitchell, Gosh Cosmetics and organza filled sweeties from Love is Sweet Company) and an opera themed fashion show – this is well worth the £2 entry fee!

.

.

.

.

My friend Karen at Belle Bridal Magazine has also been telling me about their £1,000 beauty box to raffle for Breast Cancer UK with prizes from Chez Bec, Euphoria and Aruna Seth plus bouquets, cakes and other fabulous jewellery pieces.  Stick it in the diaries now ladies!

.

Mentions should also go to the Darlington Weddings Bridal Fayre being held at The Bannatyne Hotel in Darlington from 12 – 4pm, with free goody bags, and By Gina’s Explore Wedding Fayre at Woodhorn Museum, Ashington from 12 – 3:30pm.

In An English Country Garden: A Real Wedding In The North West – Vikki & Rob

July 4th, 2012 | Julia Braime

.

A Real Wedding At Arley Hall by Adam Riley Photography

.

.

I’ve a treat for you to mark the middle of a busy week – a double header of Real Wedding gorgeousness!  Today’s first comes to us from the North West courtesy of Brides Up North Featured Supplier Adam Riley Photography and beautiful real bride Vikki.  And it’s an absolute stunner!

.

One of my favourite bits about editing the Real Wedding features for Brides Up North (apart from the wedding dress lust) is seeing the raw emotion of a wedding day come across in the images.  This wedding doesn’t disappoint… and I reckon we’ve got a fellow Daddy’s girl on our hands here!  Nice to know that I’m not alone (*waves* hello Dad!).

.

.

.

.

Vikki says:  We got engaged in November 2010 at Lumley Castle – I thought Rob had arranged a weekend away at a B&B near Durham but he had secretly booked a room at Lumley Castle, I had no idea what was going on until he got down on one knee!

We were married on 5th May 2012 at married Norcliffe Chapel, Styal and the reception was at Arley Hall, Northwich.  I grew up in Styal and my parents live five minutes from the Chapel, so it meant a lot to me to get married there. We chose Arley Hall for our reception because it’s a beautiful English country house, which is full of character and charm and the staff were so friendly and professional. It was exactly what we were looking for, and we fell in love with it straight away!

Our theme was ‘English Country Garden’, sort of ‘bringing the outside in’, with an ivory and sky blue colour scheme.

.

Steph Baker who has a salon in Wilmslow did all the bridesmaids and my nails on the Friday night and mine and my mums makeup on the day and Kate and Maria from David Anthony’s did all of our hair.

We booked a vintage Beauford Tourer from Horgans Cars to travel to the Church and the Venue.

.

.

.

My dress was from Lancashire Bridal Gallery in Tarleton and was an end of season Sophia Tolli design, so I got it for a great price! I felt that the dress complimented the venue perfectly!

.

My bridesmaids were in Sky Blue Jasmine B2 dresses from Agape in Knutsford. As long as they were all in the same colour, I didn’t mind if they all wore different styles, but it turned out they all wanted the same dress!

.

.

.

.

I was really emotional at the church, it was so amazing to have all our friends and family watch us get married, so I think that was my most favourite part of the day, but to be honest I loved it all!

.

.

A Real Wedding At Arley Hall by Adam Riley Photography

.

.

Janet from Croftland Nursery in Styal did the flowers in the church, the button holes and the bouquets. I gave her a vague description that I wanted ivory and blue ‘wild flowers’ tied together with string – I was overwhelmed with the final product, it was exactly what I had in my head!

I made all my own table decorations and table plan from lots of twigs, jam jars, string and wild flowers picked from my Mum’s garden the day before.

We also made Super Top Trump cards for all the guests as a bit of banter during the wedding breakfast!

Amy James did the chair covers for the wedding breakfast and RW Bespoke did all the catering at Arley Hall.

The very talented Leanne Holmes from ‘Bake Me I’m Yours’ made me a cake of cupcakes. She did four different designs which all followed our colour scheme and our ‘English Country Garden’ theme.

A string quartet from Thackeray Music set the tone for our Pimms reception at Arley Hall, and

New Year’s Newlyweds! A Real Wedding In The North West – Sarah & Nick

April 20th, 2012 | Julia Braime

.

A Real Wedding At Arley Hall - Martin Hambleton Photography

.

.

What better way to end the week than another gorgeous Real Wedding, this time from the North West and sent to me by photographer Martin Hambleton and real bride Sarah.  Sarah and Nick actually chose a similar colour scheme to that I picked for my own wedding, so I was always going to love the classic elegance of their wedding styling – topped off with a stunning venue to boot!

Over to Sarah:  Nick asked me to marry him in July 2009 in Paris and we were married on New Year’s Eve – 31st December 2011 at Arley Hall in Cheshire

.

We chose the venue because it’s a beautiful place, but what sold it to us was how friendly the staff were. They had us feel at home immediately. Everyone did a fantastic job of looking after us from the first show round right the way through to the day of the wedding.

We opted for a classic colour scheme of ivory and charcoal grey. My dress was an Essence dress from Chester Bridal Gallery. Very plain, but perfect!

.

My six bridesmaids wore long strapless dresses from Monsoon. They were a bargain in the January sale last year and then we just paid to get them altered for a perfect fit.

I was already at the venue so we didn’t have wedding cars, but we did have a wedding bus to transport our guests from a nearby hotel though!

RW Bespoke did our catering. They are the preferred supplier of the venue and were equally brilliant. We’ve had so many great comments about the food!

.

We opted for a traditional fruit cake made by my Auntie.  Instead of favours we had a sweetie table at the evening reception with personalised labels and traditional stripped bags in our wedding colours.

We had a harpist, Nerys Hewitt who played during the ceremony and reception and then a brilliant band called The Indie Killers in the evening.  We had a confetti machine at midnight! At the strike of 12 o’clock a shower of silver and ivory paper flakes fell from the ceiling!

Obviously the ceremony and the actual getting married part was great, but the surprise appearance of all Nick’s friends dressed in Top Gun flight suits coming on to the dance floor to serenade me with Take My Breath Away after our first dance is a moment I will never forget.

My top tip for other Brides Up North would be to get organised! Keep a wedding file to store all correspondence and ideas and write all key dates on a wall chart – dress fittings, supplier meetings, payments dates etc.  You’ll be glad that you did!

.

Congratulations Sarah & Nick!
