We’re getting your Tuesday off to fine start with this styled shoot which features ones of the dreamiest colour palettes for the time of year. Rich berry and golden tones turn up the heat at the opulent Soughton Hall, a Georgian country house in North Wales that once was a bishop’s palace.
Award-winning make-up artist Cathryn Kerwin-Rawlinson engineered the shoot, having witnessed a dramatic change in the interior style of the venue since it changed ownership in the last couple of years. Here she shares her story behind the shoot and introduces us to the talented suppliers who assisted her in achieving her vision…

cathryn says: I regularly work and exhibit at Soughton Hall, which is close to Chester in the North Wales countryside. I love the details outside the property and the décor inside and wanted to create a rich and romantic look to complement the high-end venue.
As a wedding venue, it is my personal favourite and I thought it was a great place to do an autumn/winter styled shoot, so I spoke to friends and contacts in the industry to see if they were interested in a collaboration. Everyone I asked was interested in the shoot and venue and wanted to take part. The theme we chose was romantic styling with rich berry and autumnal tones.
The interior décor of the main room at Soughton is navy blue and gold, so we wanted to pick up on the colours of the room but use rich colours to complement. We opted for a colour scheme of gold, navy, deep reds and burgundy. A Pinterest board was created and everyone knew that the look and feel for the shoot was opulence and richness.
For the table decorations, Vikki Sweeney from Sapphire Bespoke Events went for very rich golds and jewel colours, while the flowers by Carol Anne’s were a mix of deep reds, again taking inspiration from the Pinterest board we all created before the shoot. Lindsey Devlin of Devlin Designs created invitations and table cards, again picking up on the chosen colour scheme.
In the summer, I did a wedding for a bride who wore an Essense of Australia gown from Bellissima Brides and I rated it my top dress for 2017. And so, when Carol Ellis-Thompson, our hair stylist, contacted Bellissima to see if they would like to take part, we asked them to bring some of their Essence gowns along. Our model, Gaby, suited these gowns perfectly and they fitted her like a glove!

Stunning seasonal inspiration is rife in today’s real wedding which centred around the beauty of autumn.
From gorgeous elements of nature – including leaves, pine cones and pumpkins – to a deep, jewel toned palette of aubergine and pinks, bride and groom Suzanne and Dale absolutely aced it!
Their rustic choice of venue and fine finishing touches brought the whole look and feel of the season together perfectly for an atmospheric celebration, complete with romantic candle light.
We’re also going all heart-eyed over that stunning trailing bouquet, cute Pug Max, and that stack of Krispy Kremes!

suzanne says: We got engaged in September 2015, while we were on holiday in Turkey. Looking back now, I don’t know how I didn’t click that Dale was going to propose, but I didn’t – it was completely out of the blue! I cried a lot and nearly dropped the ring down the gaps in the jetty. Dale had to prompt me again “so is that a yes?” as I was too busy crying.
We got married on 21st October 2016 at East Riddlesden Hall, West Yorkshire. We chose our venue after attending a wedding fair there and absolutely falling in love. We loved the romantic cosy feel the barn had and thought it was perfect for the intimate wedding we wanted.
Our theme was ‘autumnal’. We had dried leaves, spray-painted gold leaves, pine cones, pumpkins, lanterns and candles, and fairly lights everywhere to give it that cosy autumnal theme.
Our colour scheme was aubergine. We felt this was a really nice autumnal colour. We had mini pumpkins that were sprayed this colour and it was weaved into my bouquet and my bridesmaids’ bouquets.
I chose a beautiful lace wedding dress from Ava Rose Hamilton. I knew it was the one as soon as I tried it on! It was so comfy as well – letting me dance the night away.
My bridesmaids were in aubergine dresses with ruffles around the neck.

The unpredictability of the British weather means that couples are looking beyond the key wedding season for their big day, opting for an autumn or winter date instead.
Low lighting, cosy venues and warm comfort food, can make celebrations at these times of the year more appealing to some brides and grooms, despite the shorter days and lower temperatures. So, as we head towards the end of summer (or what was supposed to be!), we thought it was high-time for some autumnal wedding inspiration, which comes courtesy of our fabulous Sponsor, award-winning hospitality and event management company Dine.

For this afternoon’s post, we’re welcoming Dine’s Managing Director, Matt Jones, to the blog to share some of his top tips for planning a wedding at the most colourful turning of the seasons.
Matt says: With the right forward planning, marquees can be a great year-round alternative to an indoor venue. With cooler weather in prospect, your event planner will include heating and flooring in your marquee to ensure you and your guests are warm and comfortable, even if the weather isn’t ideal. While Dine boasts spectacular sites for a marquee, an at-home wedding can be the perfect option to enjoy an intimate and relaxed day.
With a marquee being the ultimate blank canvas, an at-home wedding often feels more informal and rustic and vintage themes can be used to create an even more welcoming atmosphere. Encouraging your guests to get involved and create decorations or provide flowers can also make your day, and venue, feel even more special.
With the leaves turning red and gold, an indoor venue might not feel like the right space to take advantage of the gorgeous colourful backdrop. However, choose a venue set in acres of parkland with large picture windows and you have the perfect compromise between taking the guesswork out of the weather and making the most of spectacular views and autumnal scenery.
With extensive views across the 700 acres of Leeds’ Roundhay Park, photo opportunities at Dine venue, The Mansion are in abundance. The Greek Palladian style, Grade II listed building offers several ceremony and reception rooms, all with large windows offering fantastic vistas over the park. The private terrace is the ultimate spot for the bride and groom to steal a few minutes together and take in the autumnal colours.
Autumn menus are all about taste and satisfaction. Warming, layered flavours incorporating plentiful seasonal ingredients are fundamental to ensure your guests are left feeling satisfied. This is even more important as the weather turns colder.
If you’d like to carry the autumnal theme through to your menu dishes, seasonal British produce is at its best just now and an autumn wedding is the perfect opportunity to showcase the very best in the larder. Rich meats like venison, duck and beef are versatile and readily available. Try them in a terrine of duck confit to start, and beef wellington or roasted fillet of venison for a hearty, seasonal main that are sure to delight your guests.
British fruit and vegetables are also in abundance in autumn, fantastic for a side to your flavoursome main or as the star of a dish. Perfect with strong cheeses, apples can be used in any course. For a twist, why not incorporate this classic British fruit into your starters with a Yorkshire blue and leek terrine with a Granny Smith jelly. Or if you’re looking for a richer vegetarian dish, why not take advantage of the abundance of mushrooms available in the UK and treat your guests to a brioche of creamed wild mushrooms with a garlic and shallot hollandaise.
Although often overlooked, cocktails can be a wonderful way to incorporate seasonal flavours. Hot, mulled apple ciders, sloe gin and whisky sampling take the chill off, while nut-based liqueurs like amaretto provide a seasonal base for autumnal cocktails.

Katie and Josh’s special day had us gooey from the word go. Their colour choices – rich raspberries, sumptuous burgundies, deep earthy browns and rose gold accents – light up the lens and have us longing for autumn’s open fires (and maybe a glass of red…you know, just to be sociable).
And while Katie and Josh were looking to their future together, they also made sure they didn’t forget the past. The bride’s bouquet was fastened together with her late grandfather’s tie and family photographs and a memorial plaque were dotted around the reception venue. Stylish, poignant, perfect.
So, settle in for a good ‘un; the rustic details from this joyous day are to-die-for, not to mention the bride’s strapless, full-skirted number.

katie says: We got engaged at the Manchester Christmas Markets on 5th December 2015. We were there for the day with some close friends and decided to get a drink in the main chalet. Later, we asked a man if he could take a picture of us with the giant illuminated Santa behind us. He took the picture – but then Josh asked him for another and, at that moment, got down on one knee and proposed in front of all our friends and everyone in the chalet! I was completely gobsmacked and couldn’t say yes quickly enough! Everyone cheered and clapped and we celebrated the rest of the day in Manchester.
Our wedding was booked for 3rd November 2016. We chose the date as we wanted an autumn wedding but we couldn’t afford weekend prices.
We had our ceremony and reception at Browsholme Hall and Tithe Barn, in Clitheroe. It was unlike anything we had seen in the area: very rustic, the scenery was stunning and it was everything we wanted.
We went with a kind of rustic autumn feel. We wanted the day to feel relaxed and not too formal.
We chose a deep raspberry/burgundy colour for the bridesmaids and dark brown for the groomsmen and woman. We chose these colours as we felt that they’d look great with the natural autumnal colours from the scenery and fit in well with the season.
I chose a fitted, strapless, drop-waist bridal gown. It was an ivory colour with ruching around the body and beading for detail. The skirt was rather full and had some appliques for detailing. I wore a plain, simple ivory veil with matching flowers from my bouquet in my hair. I also wore some vintage looking sparkly earrings and champagne heels.

If you’re contemplating an autumn date for your special day, then this afternoon’s real wedding will have you falling head over heels for this beautiful time of the year. Think rich jewelled tones, café au lait dahlias and a picture-perfect sunset, and you’ll get a fair idea of what to expect.
Our couple, Catherine and Frazer, tied the knot at Whirlowbrook Hall, a gorgeous manor house set within 39 acres of landscaped gardens. Plumping for a navy blue and pewter colour scheme, their elegant vintage-inspired theme works beautifully with the venue’s classic backdrop.
As you’ll see, there are so many Pinterest-worthy highlights from their special day – the stunning four-tiered cake (complete with edible sequins) is a favourite, and I just love the bride’s statement blue shoes!

catherine says: We got engaged on our seven-year anniversary, at home, on 27th December 2014, on what was a lovely crisp wintery morning. I had been dropping not so subtle hints about getting married for about a year but Frazer kept saying I’d have to wait and see as our anniversary was coming up.
The day dawned and he made me breakfast. He called me through for my sausage sandwich. I put the ketchup on and flipped the top slice of bread onto the sandwich. Neatly carved into the bread was “will you marry me?”. I think I actually said, “Oh go on then!”. Because of the snow we were unable to visit our families to share the good news for about a week!
We got married on 16th October 2016. We always knew we wanted an autumn wedding, as we love autumnal colours. Plus a sunny autumn day can be so beautiful. As it turned out, it rained heavily until about an hour before the ceremony and then stayed sunny and dry. We got some fabulous photos with the autumn sunset too.
We hosted our ceremony and reception at Whirlowbrook Hall in Sheffield. We hadn’t intended to go and see Whirlowbrook, as my sister had always wanted to get married there and I didn’t want to copy. We had gone to two wedding fairs nearby, and heard that Whirlowbrook was also holding one. We thought we’d go and see the suppliers rather than the venue, but as soon as we walked in, we knew we’d get married there! The atmosphere was so special, the staff were friendly and attentive, and the Hall and grounds are stunning. We also liked the fact that we’d get exclusive use of the venue for the day, and it was small enough to be intimate, yet still had enough space for everyone.
We didn’t have a theme as such, but we went for an autumnal vintage elegance feel. Hopefully we captured the richness of the season and matched the grandeur of the hall with classic decorations, but still managed to do things a bit differently.
We opted for a navy blue and pewter/silver colour scheme. We wanted jewel tones for that rich autumnal feel and settled on navy as a colour which would be easy to co-ordinate. We didn’t want bright silver so settled on a darker more antique silver/pewter for our metallic accents. We also incorporated cream and ivory to lighten the overall look.
I got my dress – the Alfred Angelo 216 Cinderella gown – in a sample sale. I knew I wanted a mermaid/fishtail style, but something a bit different. As soon as I put the dress on, I knew it was ‘the one’. My seamstress, Bride by Katie-Lou Designs, handmade a bolero and matched the lace to the detail on the bodice of the dress, it was perfect! I also wore a long one-tier veil.
My lovely bridesmaid Adele let me wear her antique pearl necklace as my something borrowed. Pearl is also my birthstone, which tied in nicely.
I chose bright blue Irregular Choice shoes for a pop of colour, they were fabulous and I got so many compliments.

Today’s real wedding is a stunner, with plenty of personal details in the planning. The beautiful bride tried on her dress for the first time in her mum’s bedroom, ordered her bouquet from the florist where she had a Saturday job as a teenager and incorporated lots of wood as a nod to Jay’s work as a carpenter.
Aiming for modern timelessness? Look no further than Rachael’s chiffon beaded Monsoon gown. Love neutrals? This subtle grey and lilac colour scheme is elegant, modern and fresh. Rachael gives us all the pretty details…

rachael says: We got engaged on 21st June 2012 – I was visiting Jay in London where he was working for the weekend. He’d booked a sunset champagne ride on the London Eye where he planned to pop the question, but somebody else in the pod proposed to his partner and stole Jay’s thunder! He ended up proposing at the Oxo Tower restaurant where we ate later.
We were married on 2nd October 2016. We booked the wedding almost a year to the day beforehand – we sat outside with a glass of wine on an unusually warm day in October 2015, and hoped the weather would repeat itself a year later. It did!
We had our civil ceremony and reception at Peak Edge Hotel at The Red Lion in Derbyshire. I had seen the venue’s lovely website and brochure when we first got engaged, but didn’t go to see it until we got around to planning in 2015. The venue is gorgeous – a country pub meets luxury hotel. It’s modern and fresh, the wedding team and all the staff were lovely and it just felt perfect for us. We were really keen to have the whole day in one place and the venue allowed us to do exactly that.
We didn’t really plan to have a theme, however lots of wood crept into the day. I made our invitations and they featured a woodgrain design and our centrepieces were decorated logs. Jay is a carpenter so that was quite nice, really! We decided to name our tables after superheroes – Jay is a big kid at heart (and my hero!), and I spray-painted little superhero figures to sit on each centrepiece. Jay’s mum, Tina, helped us to turn them into gorgeous features with her creative flair.
The colour-scheme was all a bit grey! Our home is decorated very neutrally and neither of us are fans of bold colours. We chose lavender and lilac as accompanying colours for ties, flowers etc.
I loved my dress! It was a long, chiffon beaded dress and was from the high street – Monsoon, in fact. I went to lots of local boutiques and loved the experience but didn’t find any dresses I really loved. I wanted something that was definitely a wedding dress, but a simple shape, without much of a train. I saw this one online, ordered it and took it round to my mum’s to try on in her bedroom! The shopping experience was a little different (no bucks fizz!), but when I tried it on, I absolutely loved it.
