soft romance: an autumn wedding shoot in the lake district

November 2nd, 2016 | Rachel Parry

This afternoon we’re treating you to more stunning seasonal inspiration in the form of this dreamy styled shoot.

Put together as part of a training course, North West based photographer Hannah Joy, was challenged to capture gorgeous portrait couple images whilst also documenting all the little details included on the styled set, from metallic-dipped fruits, plants and leaves, to elegant calligraphy and props.

All in all we think Hannah did a splendid job with both the couple and the details captured beautifully in the peaceful, rustic surroundings. Now to fill us in on how the styled shoot was brought to life, we’ll hand over the blogging reins to snapper Hannah…

hannah says: It was an absolute pleasure to photograph this stunning styled shoot during a workshop I recently attended, which was held by Aspire Photography, in the Lake District, Cumbria.

The styling of the shoot allowed for a soft romantic feel with a touch of rustic autumnal loveliness. A colour palette of soft blush mixed with rich metallic hues of gold, silver and copper helped to create the rustic yet soft and romantic theme.

The little details of green bottles and foliage added a botanical feel alongside the golden leaves, mini pumpkins and fruit, which kept the look in line with the current season.

The dreamy flowers, provided by Made In Flowers, and the beautiful stationery by Calligraphy For Weddings, followed the theme, as did the and hairstyling makeup by the talented Lucy Pearson. With the addition of the beautiful setting of Hipping Hall, in Kirby Lonsdale, the images produced have a beautifully soft and whimsical look to them.

The styled shoot ran really smoothly from beginning to end. We had two gorgeous models who were just recently married and very much in love, which brought true feelings and emotions to the shoot that I think comes across well in the images. I think the couple enjoyed the fact that they could put on their wedding outfits once again and relive their special day, not to mention the added bonus of having some more gorgeous images to keep forever!

October 28th, 2016 | Rachel Parry

Although the days are getting shorter and the temperatures are getting lower, we can’t help but love autumn for its beautiful colours and clear and crisp weather. We can therefore see why the season is a popular choice with wedding couples, particularly those who crave a cosy setting, hearty food, vibrant blooms and oodles of romantic candle light.

Here to help inspire autumn brides’ choice of confetti to complete their seasonal celebration is our fabulous Sponsor, Shropshire Petals.

With an unbelievable amount of fabulous hues to choose from, couples can pick one of Shropshire Petal’s readymade mixes for their all-important confetti-shot moment, or alternatively create their own using the online ‘pick and mix’ tool to put a personal touch on their petals.

To get those creative cogs turning, Shropshire Petals are today sharing their top six colourful autumn mixes:

fall in love. pumpkins & lace for a seasonal wedding at arley hall – heather & steve

August 15th, 2016 | Rachel Parry

An Autumnal Wedding at Arley Hall (c) Jessica O'Shaughnessy (21)

We’re kicking off your week with an exceptionally beautiful real wedding that started with a rather impressive proposal (top marks Steve!)

Taking place at Arley Hall in Cheshire, Heather and Steve’s big day features simple yet striking details, inspired by the cosy autumn season.

Cue pumpkin centrepieces, bright bouquets and a totally swoon-worthy lace dress…

heather says: We got engaged on 8th September 2014, while at El Matador Beach, Malibu. After our first full day of our two-week holiday travelling around California, Steve told me to be ready for 5pm but wouldn’t say what the plan was. When ready, we proceeded to walk downstairs to the foyer of our hotel on Sunset Boulevard. The receptionist giggled, and we were met by a driver who took us to a limo. We were driven to El Matador Beach and Steve told me we were going for a picnic. We walked around looking for a perfect place to watch the sun set when Steve knelt down and popped the question. He handed me a round, white box with a purple ribbon and within side it was purple cookie with “will you marry me” on it. Naturally, I said yes. We turned around and there was a photographer Steve had booked to capture the moment. It was perfect.

We set the date for October 17th 2015, as we wanted an autumnal wedding and also for it to be on a Saturday.

Our chosen setting was Arley Hall in Northwich, Cheshire. The hall had the option of a separate evening venue, which is something we wanted so evening guests felt completely part of the wedding and not thrown into the chaos from the day’s events. The hall and the grounds are gorgeous, and the history of the house makes it a fabulous backdrop for photographs.

As a nod to the season we had an autumnal “Fall in Love” theme, which included pumpkins, hessian and wood. There was no definite colour theme as we wanted a mixture of different hues.

I didn’t have much luck when looking for dresses but after a day’s searching I found the one in the n the last shop we visited, Wedding Belles in Frodsham. When we arrived there was an Intuzuri event on that we were unaware of. We got there at 4.30pm and the event stopped at 5pm with the dresses being packed up as we looked so I couldn’t believe when I came across a dress that I had previously ripped out of a magazine and put in my wedding scrap book. The dress was floor length with a train, very fitted with lace full length sleeves. It was full Chantilly lace and had a low back to it. I also had a Chantilly, elbow length veil to match.

autumnal bliss. maggie sottero for a seasonal wedding in the north west – katie & damian

April 25th, 2016 | Julia Braime

An Autumn Wedding at Alma Inn (c) Arusha's Images (44)

Today’s real wedding couple decided to let the season in which they tied the knot provide the inspiration for their styling and colour scheme.

The result is a rich & warming autumnal wedding complete with pretty rustic décor and striking seasonal blooms.

katie says: We got engaged at Christmas. Damian took me for a walk at somewhere we love locally called Wycoller, it is really beautiful with an old ruin and a little stream. It was such a surprise when he proposed. I was so excited! We actually chose to have our engagement shoot with our photographer Arusha at Wycoller too, and it was lovely to go back there.

We set the date for October 25th, because we love autumn and so we had a wedding full of autumnal gorgeousness!

We had a nuptial mass at Damian’s RC church, Sacred Heart Church, which was really important to him and his family, and was beautiful. Our reception was nearby, in the Lancashire countryside at one of our favourite places to eat, The Alma Inn in Laneshawbridge. It has a gorgeous view of Pendle Hill, and was such a perfect venue for our rustic autumn wedding, and the big open fires kept everyone warm.

The theme of the wedding was rustic, romantic and autumnal. The Alma itself already suited our theme down to a tee. I only added decorations as a personal choice. The log fires we asked to be lit on the day added to the personal and cosy feel of the venue. The pumpkins used as table centrepieces also proved to be a low cost, but effective way, to enhance our autumnal theme.

To suit the season we went with autumnal colours for the scheme, made up of oranges, browns and then some brighter whites. The bridesmaids wore black which really made their bouquets stand out.

love is golden: a pretty seasonal styled shoot

February 24th, 2016 | Rachel Parry

Autumn Styled Shoot at Froyle Park (c) Ilaria Petrucci (25)

Here at Brides Up North we may have mentioned one, or two (hundred) times that we absolutely love the autumn season. As such, when this stunning styled shoot inspired by the time of the year when the days shorten and golden leaves fall from the trees landed in our inbox, we just had to share it with you, our lovely readers.

Providing perfect inspiration for those of you planning an autumnal wedding later this year or next, this shoot, organised by Ilaria of Ilaria Petrucci Photography, features beautiful ideas for décor, floral designs and attire, using warming colours and textures that work in harmony with the season.

To explain why it’s so easy to fall for an autumn wedding, and to fill us in on details of the shoot, we’ll hand over to the lady behind the lens…

ilaria says: I love autumn. Perhaps because I was born in October, so I like to think of myself as a fall-child. The light, the colors, the atmosphere, everything about it is absolutely gorgeous!

That said, a lot of people dislike this season as they see it as a dark and grey time of year, when everything is dying back. I don’t see it that way though, instead I see a burst colour and energy, change, new opportunities and growth.

I will admit that I’m not a huge fan of the dark days that come with the season though, and so this was in part the inspiration for the shoot. I wanted to bring softness to slightly dim the strong, bright colours of yellow and red often associated with the season, whilst also brightening up the darkness of the shorter days with light.

When it came to picking a photographer for the shoot, there was nobody else I would ask other than Mark, who is the other half to me and our business. With his fashion and commercial background and his natural wedding photography style, he was perfect for what I wanted to achieve.
