English Vintage. Augusta Jones For A Real Wedding At Beamish Hall – Aylsa & Martin

July 23rd, 2013 | Julia Braime

If you like pretty – and I know that you do – you are going to love today’s Real Wedding.  Aylsa and Martin’s big day at dream venue Beamish Hall is a sugar spun confection, whilst staying on the right side of classy.  Sweet and lovely.

Aylsa says:  We got engaged Christmas Day 2009. I was pregnant with our little girl Isla at the time and I was still living at home with my parents. Martin had been planning it behind my back with my parents. He had arranged to arrive early on Christmas morning. The doorbell rang and everyone ignored it so I had to get up. I answered it to Martin holding up place cards like the Keira Knightly scene in the film Love Actually. There was even a soundtrack of Silent Night.

We got married on Saturday 29th December 2012 at St Catherine’s church and our reception was at Beamish Hall.  We had been to weddings at Beamish Hall before and knew how much of a beautiful venue it was. It was the first venue we looked at and knew it was the right place for our wedding. It has a cosy atmosphere and the grounds are very picturesque.

We chose an English Vintage theme, with a colour scheme of ivory and pastel pink.

My dress was Augusta Jones ‘Ali’ dress which is a full lace fitted dress with round neck and long train. It was one of the first dresses I tried on in Lily White Bridal Boutique in Jesmond. I did not even go to any other shops as I knew this was the dress for me.

My bridesmaids all had champagne and gold dresses from Monsoon. The groomsmen wore black dinner suits from Slaters in Newcastle.

I designed my bridal bouquet and my daughter’s bouquet which were matching pink and cream fabric and brooch bouquets. I have since set up Love is Vintage where I design and handcraft fabric, brooch and button bouquets. My two older bridesmaids carried pink and ivory roses by Adam Prest.  Adam is a fantastic florist.  I have never seen work like this before and the flowers fit in so well with our theme.

The vows were the most emotional part but something that stood out to both of us was the first time were alone together without any guests when getting photographs taken at Wharton Park, Durham City. The view of the cathedral was breath-taking and to be there as husband and wife was very special.

Brooklands Wedding Cars provided us with a 1930s Beauford and a 1920s Regent car.

Our wedding photographer was Helen Russell Photography.  We cannot thank her enough for giving us such beautiful wedding photos. I have never seen photos of this quality before by any other photographer and we would highly recommend her to anybody getting married. She is truly talented!

We bought most of our vintage decor from Country Baskets. Beamish Extras provided us with a lot of vintage decor including the old style camera centre piece and ink well centre piece.

.

.

Helen Russell Photography

.

.

Our cake was made by Caramel Bobs and we chose a traditional fruit cake for the top tier and the remaining tiers were vanilla cupcakes with ivory and lace detail. The cake not only looked amazing but tasted sensational.

.

.

.

We used old fashioned photos of family members from their wedding days on a family table. This included photographs of some members of family who had passed away, this added sentimental value.

We had a string quartet, Aurora Strings at the church and Hip Operation provided our evening entertainment.

For our honeymoon we spent three nights in New York and the remaining seven nights in Riviera Maya, Mexico.

My top tip for other Brides Up North would be not to get hung up on the small details, everything will come together on the day. Enjoy every second of your big day as it goes over so quickly.

Peaches & Cream! A Real Wedding In The North East – Cheryl & Peter

April 2nd, 2013 | Julia Braime

.

Beamish Hall Wedding by David E Williams

.

.

It’s rubbish being back at work after the long weekend isn’t it?!  And yes, it’s still rubbish even if you get to look at beautiful weddings all day long like I do – there’s always admin and invoicing to do in any business people… and let’s got even touch on VAT returns!

.

So, it’s safe to say that we’ll all probably be in need of a pick-me-up.  Right about now.

.

Lucky for us, Cheryl and Peter’s gorgeous Real Wedding in the North East is a little ray of sunshine with pretty smiles, a pretty venue, pretty styling, and, well, just about pretty everything really.  So let’s prettify our Tuesday afternoon, and be inspired!

.

And go on, why not reach for the biscuit tin too? After the sugar fest that is the Easter weekend, surely more chocolate can’t really hurt us?!

.

.

Beamish Hall Wedding by David E Williams

.

.

Cheryl says:  Peter asked me to marry him on 4th September 2011 at my parents’ home (it was my parents’ wedding anniversary).  We were married on 7th October 2012 at Beamish Hall in County Durham.

.

We chose the venue as we loved the grand appearance from the outside and the traditional yet modern features of the inside. The big bay windows and the beautiful chandeliers won us over.  In keeping with the venue, we opted for a modern vintage theme, with a simple yet pretty colour scheme of ivory with pearls and lace and antique rose bridesmaid dresses.

.

.

I chose a dress by Madeline Gardner New York for Mori Lee from Brides Dream.  It was an understated lace dress with a modern twist.  My gorgeous headpiece was by What Katy Did Next.

.

The bridesmaids’ dresses were from Purely Bridesmaids and our groomsmen hired suits from Gavin Scott Menswear.

I carried a mixture of roses in ivory and creams and a touch of vintage pink to match the bridesmaids by Nature’s Gift.  The bouquet was kept very neat and feminine with stalks on show with a mix of hessian and lace as a bow.

The ceremony was also held at the Hall and we chose to have a candle ceremony where there are three candles, two lit from the beginning to represent the two families and the our mothers were asked to light the centre candle which represented the families coming together.

We had a harpist – Clare Bakewell -  to play ‘When You Wish Upon A Star’ for the bridesmaids/groomsmen to enter to and then ‘Halo’ for my entrance. She stayed and played outside throughout the drinks reception too.

We hand made our table names using wooden plaques with pearl bows – and each table was a different Walt Disney quotation.

.

.

We chose a gorgeous four tier wedding cake with two layers of fruit, a layer of sponge and a layer of chocolate (we couldn’t decide)!  The cake was iced in ivory with pearl drops and an edible vintage rose oversized bow on the top.  We also chose cake pop wedding favours from Olipops.

.

.

We had unique bespoke ‘peg’ dolls made to stand by the cake and these actually looked like us! These were made by What Katy Did Next who also created our ring cushion.

For the evening entertainment we had a swing band – Jeff Dingle & the Moodswing Trio – who were amazing and I danced to ‘My Girl’ with my step-dad and our first dance was Paolo Nutini’s “Loving you”.

What’s On This Weekend? Quite A Lot Actually!

October 12th, 2012 | Julia Braime

.

Get ready for another bumper weekend of wedding inspiration people!  There are absolutely LOADS of bridal events across the regions this weekend, but  I have a few special shout outs this morning for some great bridal events brought to you by lovely people that I love to work with.

.

Even though I run my own branded (and rather brilliant, even if I do say so myself) wedding exhibitions, I still like to support my industry friends and colleagues who do the same for me – and plus, I get to bring you news of all the shows that you need to see.

.

First up, brand new Brides Up North Featured Supplier are holding a wedding fair this very Sunday 14th October at their lovely hotel in County Durham from 11am – 4pm, and it’s free entry too.  If you are still on a venue hunt, make sure to pop in and say hello to the team.

.

After that – hop in the car and hot foot it across to Belle Bridal Magazine’s White Wedding Wonder Show – at Sunderland AFC from 12pm – 4pm.  With 100 exhibitors, some fab goody bags (with Green & Blacks, Choccards, Paul Mitchell, Gosh Cosmetics and organza filled sweeties from Love is Sweet Company) and an opera themed fashion show – this is well worth the £2 entry fee!

.

.

Wedding Wonder Show

.

.

My friend Karen at Belle Bridal Magazine has also been telling me about their £1,000 beauty box to raffle for Breast Cancer UK with prizes from Chez Bec, Euphoria and Aruna Seth plus bouquets, cakes and other fabulous jewellery pieces.  Stick it in the diaries now ladies!

.

Mentions should also go to the Darlington Weddings Bridal Fayre being held at The Bannatyne Hotel in Darlington from 12 – 4pm, with free goody bags, and By Gina’s Explore Wedding Fayre at Woodhorn Museum, Ashington from 12 – 3:30pm.

.

.

.

.

Over in the North West, don’t miss the Wedding Link show at Arley Hall in Northwich – the show is open from 11am – 3pm and is free entry. Wahoo!

.

Have a good one! And don’t forget the last Brides Up North show of the season at Sarah Beeny’s Rise Hall next weekend (as if I’d let you do that)!

Ruffles & Blooms: A Real Wedding In The North East – Jemma & Anthony

April 23rd, 2012 | Julia Braime

.

A Real Wedding In The North East at Beamish Hall - Torcross Photography

.

.

I’m currently in recovery from the last Brides Up North Wedding Exclusive of the Spring season at Sarah Beeny’s Rise Hall.  What a way to finish a great run of shows!  All of the Wedding Exclusives (and the even larger Brides Up North Super Showcase) have been record attendances for the beautiful venues that I work with but this one was an especially brilliant day, with 290 brides (!) and their families coming to see the Hall and our amazing exhibitors.  More on that later.  Watch out for more shows in your area this Autumn.  Exhibitors can contact julia@bridesupnorth.co.uk for details.

.

So, onwards and upwards as always, lets kick start the week with some pretty!  This gorgeous North East wedding was sent to me by wedding blog reader and Real Bride Jemma and with some of my favourite North East suppliers on her team, it was always going to be a cracker!

.

.

.

.

I proposed to Anthony in November 2009 at the cinema. I set it all up on the big screen before the film along with his favourite music. Although he was a little startled he did say yes!

.

.

A Real Wedding In The North East at Beamish Hall - Torcross Photography

.

.

We tied the knot at Beamish Hall on 16th March 2012 with family and friends travelling from all over the world to be with us which made the day even more special.

.

We chose Beamish Hall as from our first visit here we knew this was our special place and where we could see ourselves getting married. It is so magical here and beautiful that no where else was as perfect for us.

.

.

Pale pinks and greens were our colour choices. I wanted to keep it very simple yet vintage looking with pearls, fringed tulips that looked like lace and selections of various vases for the flowers provided by our florist Adam Prest and plenty of candle light.

I chose a very simple yet fairy tale like dress by Morilee from Wedding Secrets. I accompanied this with a ivory sash with pearls and crystals from YAP Bridal to tie in a big bow at the back.

.

My bouquet was a mixture of roses, peonies and many other beautiful assortments. I have never had such beautiful flowers and we were amazed at how much care and detail had gone into each display. We have even sent my bouquet off to be preserved in a special frame as it was that beautiful at Precious Petals. Thank you Adam for all your care and attention that went into making our day even more spectacular!

.

My bridesmaid wore a long flowing pale pink dress from Debenhams which she chose herself. Our little flower girl wore a silver green dress by Monsoon embellished with detail around the waist which matched in with my dress.  The boy’s suits were by The Wedding Wardrobe

I spent the night before the wedding at Beamish Hall with my mum and got ready there on the morning. Anthony travelled with my dad, his brother and dad to the venue. I did miss him overnight and ended up not being able to sleep with such excitement.

.

We had a string trio, The North East Soiree for the ceremony who played absolutely beautiful. It made the day that much more perfect. Thank you Gordon for playing even tunes by Morrissey for our special day.

Its so hard to choose a favourite part of the day as it was all so beautiful and perfect. I have to say though seeing Anthony at the end of the aisle made everything else just fade into the background and I realised what I had been waiting for all along

We chose our friend Dave Knaggs of Torcross Photography to take our photos. We wanted to have someone who we felt comfortable with and who we were able to enjoy taking photos with. He did an excellent job, thank you Dave!

We chose a 3 tier butter sponge with plain icing from Marks and Spencer which tasted absolutely yummy. Our florist decorated this then with an array of flowers to match in with the table centres.

For the favours we ordered French macaroons in various colours from Fenwick’s Bakery and tied up each bundle with ribbon and a cute tag of our names and wedding date.

We hired a magician, Paul Lytton who kept guests thoroughly entertained in the gap between the day and night. I still don’t know how he does any of his tricks! We were all amazed.

For the evening we chose the resident DJ at Beamish Hall to host our first dance and disco. They catered for every piece of music we asked for and more and I never stopped dancing. We hadn’t prepared a first dance but once the music started for ‘it had to be you’ we ran on and it all came naturally. Turned into quite a cheesy dance but it really was one of the best parts of the day.

For our honeymoon we went to a little island called Meeru for 2 weeks in the Maldives. This was just paradise.

My top tip for other Brides Up North would be to just try to get as much sleep as you can the night before as I only got an hour’s sleep!  Also remember it is your day and your day alone. Do all that makes you happy and it will all be perfect on the day.

.

Congratulations Jemma & Anthony!

Lace & Lilies: A Real Wedding In The North East – Leanne & Chris

January 16th, 2012 | Julia Braime

.

Helen Russell Photography

.

.

Welcoming in a frosty week on the wedding blog with a seasonal winter wonderland wedding in the North East, sent to me by my friend  – the fabulous – Helen Russell Photography.  With lace, lilies and just the right amount of sparkle, this Real Wedding is a whole lot of lovely!

.

.

Helen Russell Photography

.

.

Over to Leanne:   We got engaged in New York in November 2010. It was all very romantic in front of a burning log fire with rose petals and champagne. Chris had reserved an old library type room with very high ceilings and character and had arranged for champagne and flowers to be placed in front of the burning fire and then when we arrived he sat me down and popped the question!

We were married on 16 December 2011 at St Wilfrids RC Church in Bishop Auckland for the service and then Beamish Hall for our reception.  We both love the building and grounds at Beamish Hall as it has a lovely feel to it. We also think the rooms at Beamish are very warm and intimate with perfect scenery.  We went for a Christmas winter wonderland vibe with lots of white, silver and crystals, chair covers by Posh Chair Covers & Bows, plus plenty of candles and fairy lights.

I chose a vintage style dress by the amazing Ian Stuart.  To compliment this, my chief bridesmaid wore a long gun metal grey dress and the youngest bridesmaid wore an ivory flower girl’s dress. Both bridesmaids had grey fur shrugs and vintage brooches too.  I carried a simple Lily of The Valley bouquet by The Funky Flower Company
