Wedding Belle! A Real Wedding In The North West – Rosie & Nick

January 3rd, 2013 | Julia Braime

Belle Epoque Wedding by Jonny Draper Photography

.

.

And so to our very first Real Wedding of 2013! Where better to start than over in Knutsford, Cheshire at the stunning Belle Epoque (the location for the last Brides Up North Tweet Up North West no less!) and join Rosie and Nick for a stunning celebration of their marriage.

.

There’s snow globes, gorgeous gowns (check out those bridesmaids, and that David Fielden) and erm, Morris dancers a plenty.  With images by the ever talented Jonny Draper Photography

Rosie says:  We got engaged in December 2010 at Gilpin Lodge in the Lake District.  I had taken Nick away for his 30th birthday and he proposed in the hot tub!  I thought the ring box was a Pandora charm!

Knutsford Wedding by Jonny Draper Photography

.

.

We were married on 25th November 2012 at Belle Epoque, Knutsford.  We have lived in Knutsford for four years and absolutely love it. The Belle Epoque was everything we wanted, intimate, romantic and a different feel to many other weddings we’d been to. We wanted to do something from the norm and were keen not to have it feel overly traditional.

Dress wise, I was keen to have something out of the ordinary. My first visit to Amy Louise Bridal in Nantwich was like a child in a sweetie shop! I liked at least 10 dresses! Several bridesmaids’ visits later and it had been whittled down to two. Everyone who saw the David Fielden number felt that it was the one and suited my figure. A number of bridal shops later and it was the one I compared every one to. And so it was chosen! Kirsten at Amy Louise was amazing and so very friendly and helpful from start to finish.

.

My bridal jewellery and headwear was by Halo and Co.

The stunning Bridesmaids’ dresses were Debut at Debenhams. We didn’t go for morning suits for the groomsmen and ushers (again not wanting too much of a traditional feel). They all wore what they wanted. Nick had his three piece suit and shirt made at Papas Tailoring in Knutsford.

My full name is Rosemary so it was only natural that I would have roses as the bouquet. There were also a few sprigs of rosemary hidden in the bridal bouquet. The roses were carefully matched to the bridesmaids dresses – this was not easy as their colour was quite unusual. Amnesia and metalina roses matched quite well. The bridal bouquet had crystals added to some of the roses and wrapped in lace to match the sleeves of the bridal gown.

During the ceremony a friend of my daughter, an upcoming artist, 15 year old Molly Pye played acoustically on her guitar. She sang Three Little Birds’ Don’t worry as I walked down the aisle. I am prone to worrying! During the ceremony she played Somewhere Over The Rainbow, and the we exited the ceremony to Wonderwall.

We had an interpreter for the deaf who signed throughout the day as my parents and a number of my immediate family are profoundly deaf.  Immediately after the ceremony, the Dee Sign Choir from Chester signed along to three songs we had chosen. A tear jerking time for all our family who had been kept in the dark about this. It was our surprise to them.

We didn’t set off with a theme, it came together gradually. Once we found out the Christmas decorations would be up in time for the wedding we decided to put a Christmas edge to it.  I would be Santa’s elf if I could so it was only natural to have a festive feel to the day.   We didn’t really have a colour scheme, we found bridesmaids dresses we liked and matched flowers to this. The rest we wanted to tie in with the colour scheme at the Belle Epoque so we used purples and brown paper.  It was also a bit of a mismatch really but it came together and worked!

.

All our stationery was by the fabulous Betsy Button

We chose amazingly delicious cupcakes provided by The Dish Ran Away with the Spoon, Didsbury in four  flavours with a lemon cake on top.  Yummy!

I made Christmas baubles as favours for the ladies using photo baubles but inserting our own inserts. One side saying ‘Merry Christmas’  and a painstakingly decorated Christmas tree image with tiny purple and gold decorations. The reverse side was a testament to our wedding.

After the wedding breakfast, neither of us particularly wanted a first dance. However, Nicks favourite day of the whole year is Knutsford Royal May Day which is generally a very good knees up with friends! Nick always gets particularly excited as the Morris men approach so this is where we got an idea for evening entertainment. Leyland Morris Men were more than obliging and it truly was such fun to have them there. Not only did they perform but got the audience up and involved in several different dances.  We finished with a DJ called Roy Stone.

After the wedding we spent an amazing five and a half weeks travelling around Thailand, Cambodia and Malaysia.

My top tip for other Brides Up North would be to relax, enjoy and soak up every second … and don’t forget to leave plenty of money afterwards to treat yourselves to a fabulous honeymoon.  You will need it! We also felt that spending on a great photographer and entertainment was money very well spent.

Congratulations Rosie & Nick!

Nice To Tweet You – The Official Photographs From The Brides Up North Tweet Up North West!

June 28th, 2012 | Julia Braime

.

Martin Hambleton Photography for Brides Up North UK Wedding Blog

.

.

So, this time last week, the very next day after the excellent Brides Up North Tweet Up Yorkshire (see all the official images from that event by clicking here), I was back on the road again in a North Westerly direction to throw a little party for all my North West wedding industry colleagues at The Belle Époque in the beautiful town of Knutsford.

.

The bunting was flying on arrival, and after even more heavy lifting than the day before, decorating galore and a swift makeover in the ladies’ toilets, I was ready to rock and roll.

.

.

Martin Hambleton Photography for Brides Up North UK Wedding Blog

.

.

For those of you who are new readers of Brides Up North (and you are gathering in your thousands month on month – hello there!) I explained in my post about my Yorkshire event exactly what a Tweet Up is and why they are important, so I’ll keep it brief this afternoon.  Basically these events are a chance for me to say a huge thank you to all the wedding industry friends and colleagues who have supported the growth of Brides Up North so wholeheartedly and have allowed me to keep bringing the wedding pretty your way twice a day as well as hosting the larger Brides Up North events especially for everyone out there sporting a sparkler on their ring finger.

.

These not for profit events are a chance for the industry (many of whom are individuals working hard – and sometimes holding down another job too – from their kitchen table) to get together, exchange connections and boost their business – meaning bigger and better things for the Northern wedding industry at large and ultimately for the most important people of all: the bride and groom.  That means you.

This event wouldn’t have been possible without the help of my amazing team of wedding industry wonders, so lets have a few snaps for them today.

.

.

.

.

First up, a big thank you to Collette from The Belle Époque for letting me use her beautiful venue for the event.  The rooms, staff and cute Knutsford setting are just perfect.  If you are looking for an individual venue that adds a touch of glamour and has an intimate feel, The Belle Époque, with its beautiful rooms, cool bar and pretty roof garden is an excellent choice.

Marvellous North West wedding photographer Martin Hambleton Photography captured the whole event on camera.  Thank you so much to Martin not only for such a brilliant record of the evening and turning the photographs round so bloomin’ quickly, but also for holding a camera all night when everyone else was sloshing back the vino.  I’m sure he snuck a cheeky glass or two in though, right Martin?

Sugar based treats in the form of the most beautiful occasion cake with pink and purple peonies and the loveliest cupcake displays were provided by the wonderful Francesca at The Cheshire Cat Cake Company and EmmyLou at LilyBud Cupcakes respectively.  You gals are amazing at what you do, and will always find a way to my heart by plying me with cake.  Huge thanks too to Pretty Little Trio for supplying their gorgeous vintage cake stands for EmmyLou’s display.

I don’t know what I’d do without my great friends Kelly and Colette at All Wrapped Up Events.  These chicks not only brought their amazing vintage sweetie cabinet along with them, but lent me a whole host of props and goodies for venue dressing and a foto fun area. These two are true professionals who will always go that extra mile for their client.  Get them booked.

Stunning floral displays from Laura at Laurel Weddings twinkling with crystals and hanging gems brought the outside in, so even though it was pouring down outside we had an indoor paradise of pink and purple blooms.  I am always stunned at the talents of my Featured Suppliers.  You can find Laurel Weddings on the Florists page in my Directory.

.

Jo from Simply Bows & Chair Covers also gave her own time (between dashing to other set ups) to bring my brand colours to life using glorious sashes and table runners.  Thank you so much Jo!

And last but not least a big thank you to Wedding Ideas Magazine for supporting my concept from the outset, lending their support to these events and letting every guest take home a copy of their brand new issue!  Hopefully a good hangover read…

Fuchsia Fantastic! A Real Wedding In The North West – Emma & Gary

March 18th, 2012 | Julia Braime

.

McAvoy Weddings

.

.

Oooooh! I do love it when I get to feature the Real Wedding of a couple whose engagement shoot I featured on these very pages a couple of months before, and such is the case with today’s lovebirds – Emma and Gary.  We first met these two when McAvoy Weddings captured them surrounded by drills and paint cans in their new home, indulging in a spot of DIY.  You can see the shoot by clicking here

.

Thankfully, they left the ripped jeans at home on their gorgeous wedding day in Knutsford.

.

.

McAvoy Weddings   McAvoy Weddings

.

.

Over to Emma:  We got engaged on 1 December 2010. The ring was hidden in the first box of the advent calendar but unfortunately by the time I opened it Gary had gone to London for work & I was in Manchester!

.

We were married on 17 December 2011 at Belle Epoque, Knutsford.  We wanted an intimate wedding & the venue was perfectly suited to this.

We didn’t have a theme as such, but the mood of the wedding was centred around a classic & opulent look, with fuchsia accents.

.

.

.

.

.

.

I chose a classis, fitted style of wedding dress called Tatum by Victoria Jane for Ronald Joyce from Broadbents in Middleton, Manchester and carried a hand tied bouquet of David Austin Emily roses with

Astilbe, Claret astrantia and eucalyptus foliage by Jemma Holmes.

For a personal touch, we made the favours ourselves with retro sweets (from A Quarter Of) which all the adults loved. The kids also had personalised party bags which we again made ourselves and kept them occupied & happy during the speeches.

We chose a three tiered wedding cake with fruit, vanilla sponge and carrot cake. Topped with a gingerbread bride and groom!

Entertainment wise we kept it simple – a DJ to get the dance floor filled!  It worked!

After the wedding we jetted off on honeymoon for a Christmas break in Berlin.

My top tip for other Brides Up North would be when planning the day, try not to lose sight of the fact that it’s actually about pledging your commitment to each other and at the end of the day it doesn’t matter how many bridesmaids you have, whether you have a chocolate fountain or who sits next to each other in the seating plan!

Hollywood Vogue – Issue #7 – Jean Harlow

December 15th, 2011 | Julia Braime

.

Brides Up North UK Wedding Blog: Jean Harlow via doctormacro.com

.

.

Our daily dose of Hollywood glamour draws to a close today, with the final instalment in the Hollywood Vogue series by Jenny & Keith McAvoy Wedding Photographers.  I’ve gotten kind of used to all this slinky fabulous, haven’t you dahlings?  I guess its time to shrug off my sable and go back to blogging in my PJs… but not before we enjoy today’s copy of Hollywood Vogue.

.

.

Brides Up North UK Wedding Blog: McAvoy Weddings

.

.

Jenny McAvoy says: The original vamps of Hollywood began as dark haired vixens, ready to attack for whatever they wanted, be it a man, money or respect. Good girls were always blonde until Jean Harlow entered the scene. She was sexy, funny and ultimately one of the brightest shining stars on the Silver Screen.

Inspired by Jean’s magnetic sex appeal and strong screen presence, we created these scenes featuring Alex Outhwaite in a divine 30s style Jenny Packham dress, and marabou feather shrug provided by Aphrodite Bridalwear and to complete the picture. Greg McAvoy played her leading man in these embraces.  These shots was taken against the exquisite backdrop of the brasserie of Belle Epoque, Knutsford. Hollywood Vogue – Issue #6 – Rita Hayworth

December 14th, 2011 | Julia Braime

.

"After all, a girl is . . . well, a girl. It’s nice to be told you’re successful at it."

.

.

Brides Up North UK Wedding Blog: Rita Hayworth via freeinfosociety.com

.

.

Are you feeling glamorous yet Brides Up North?  I think I might break early today, mix up a martini and slink around in a fab frock.  The Hollywood Vogue series, a decadent Christmas treat from Jenny & Keith McAvoy Wedding Photographers and a very talented team of North West wedding industry greats, continues this morning on the wedding blog

.

.

Brides Up North UK Wedding Blog: McAvoy Weddings

.

.

Jenny McAvoy explains the inspiration behind the shoot: Nicknamed the “Love Goddess” Rita Hayworth was one of the most glamorous actresses in cinematic history, but she was much more than a beautiful face. Rita was an exceptionally talented dancer, and her performances embodied a combination of strength and sensitivity that set her apart from other screen sirens, and made her just as popular with female audiences.

.

.

Brides Up North UK Wedding Blog: McAvoy Weddings

.

.

From the top of her head to the tips of her fingernails she was the ultimate screen siren, who was as famous for changing her hair colour, notably to red, as for her acting.

.

.

Brides Up North UK Wedding Blog: McAvoy Weddings

.

.

Rita’s pin up model looks and red hair were recreated in these beautiful scenes on the Belle Epoque terrace and hall. Model Rebecca Scott captures the Hollywood heyday in a simple Jenny Packham dress from Aphrodite.  Flowers were arranged by Rosa and Co and hair and make-up created by the talented hair and make-up team Beth Davies, Maritza Haydon and Romy Richardson.  Jesse Bradbury doesn’t take centre stage in this scene emphasizing Rebecca’s beauty and strength and of course stunning red hair.

Hollywood Vogue – Issue #5 – Greta Garbo

December 12th, 2011 | Julia Braime

.

“I’ve led a fabulous life”

.

.

Brides Up North UK Wedding Blog - Greta Garbo

.

.

Continuing last week’s Hollywood Vogue series of silver screen inspired bridal inspiration shoots, McAvoy Weddings and their team of North West wedding industry greats are back with another fabulous instalment.

.

Jenny McAvoy says: Named “the most beautiful woman that ever lived” in 1954, Greta Garbo was one of Hollywood’s greatest stars. The complete package, Garbo was an actress who combined remarkable beauty with a modern spirit and irresistible allure.  Even today she remains one of the most fascinating women in history.

.

The Academy awarded Garbo "for her unforgettable screen performances.”  This paired with her aloof mysteriousness made the public crave to know more about her. Although seldom in the public eye she remained in the public’s mind, a woman of beauty and mystery, a legend.

We were inspired by Garbo’s mysteriousness and exquisite beauty to create this scene of model Lucy Holmes in a divine 30s design Stewart Parvin dress provided by Aphrodite and wraps by Wrapor.  This was taken against the exquisite backdrop of the brasserie stars leading up to the dining room of Belle Epoque, Knutsford. Her flowers were designed by Rosa and Co.

Hollywood Glamour – Issue #4 – Marlene Dietrich

Its been treats galore on the wedding blog this week as we continue to speed towards Christmas at what seems like break neck speed.  As McAvoy Weddings and their team continue with their very special Hollywood Vogue bridal inspiration series this morning on Brides Up North my thoughts are turning to Christmas party sparkle and festive flair.  Watch this space for some winter wedding inspired party frocks, coming soon.

.

Meanwhile, Jenny McAvoy explains: Mystery and glamour are the first things that come to mind when the name Marlene Dietrich is mentioned.  Incredibly smart, glamorous, charming and fiercely nurturing, she embodied vigour and confidence.  She was not afraid to do or say anything. It was said that when Dietrich walked into a room everything stopped.

We fell in love with Marlene’s glamour and exotic looks, which inspired this sensuous bedroom scene, taken in the Belle Epoque.  Our model Alex wore another stunning Jenny Packham dress from Aphrodite, wraps by Wrapor complete with flower arrangements by Rosa and Co and headband by Tiny Gems, whilst Jesse Bradbury held her in this intimate setting.

Hollywood Vogue – Issue #3 – Ginger Rogers

“When two people love each other, they don’t look at each other; they look in the same direction.”

This morning, we look back on one of Hollywood’s most famous redheads for today’s dose of bridal inspiration as we continue the Hollywood Vogue series by McAvoy Weddings and their fabulous team of North West bridal talent.

Over to Jenny McAvoy: Wholesome but sassy, forthright and vulnerable, honest and energetic, Ginger Rogers was one of Hollywood’s biggest stars of the 1930s and 1940s. As Fred Astaire’s romantic interest and dancing partner, Ginger was one half of the most legendary dancing team in film history epitomizing grace, energy and sophistication.

We fell in love with Ginger’s coy vulnerability and so recreated the iconic Hollywood portrait scene with stunning red-head model Rebecca Scott.  Complete with 1930s roller curled hair, strong brows and lips by the make-up and hair team, Rebecca was captured against the backdrop of the Belle Epoque’s satin padded wall in the upper hall in a Jenny Packham gown, lent by Aphrodite.

The couple scenes with Greg McAvoy were inspired by the chemistry and passion that filled the air when Fred and Ginger danced together.

Hollywood Vogue – Issue #2 – Jane Russell

The wedding blog’s week of old Hollywood glamour continues this morning in celebration of the sex bomb, with images by McAvoy Weddings

Jenny McAvoy says: Mean, moody and magnificent, Jane Russell wowed Hollywood and the World with her debut in the 1943 film The Outlaw. She was to become one of the biggest stars of the 1940s and 1950s.  She brought a new meaning to the word cleavage. She was a talented actress, but it was her sex bomb image that made her a star.

We wanted to encapsulate Jane’s sex appeal with this fantastic scene of Lucy Holmes in the entrance door of Belle Epoque.  Lucy wore a structured Stewart Parvin dress from Aphrodite & wrap by Wrapor to show off her assets, complete with 40s style red lips and winged eyes courtesy of the talented hair and make-up team Beth Davies, Maritza Haydon and Romy Richardson. Her flower entwined feather boa was  designed by Rosa and Co

Greg McAvoy plays her leading man, holding Lucy in his arms and letting her stunning hour-glass figure do the talking.
